cornThis saturday Davidson's own Robert Lee puts on a Solar Oven demonstration.  Come learn how to use solar power to bake everything from cookies to dinner.  This is especially fun for kids with an interest in science - they'll make an oven and try it out on some cookies!

It's the kickoff of our BUY ONE, GIVE ONE fresh food sharing program.
See below for more information.

BUY ONE, GIVE ONE KICKS OFF July 3rd!

With the help of SOSA (The Society of St. Andrews), the Davidson Farmers Market will collect and distribute fresh produce to food insecure individuals and families in Davidson and surrounding communities, each Saturday running July through September.

corn   During the time of summer's greatest abundance, we can ensure that fresh nutritious food gets where it needs to go.  BUY ONE, GIVE ONE  will run July through September 2010.   Markets all over NC are starting food sharing programs with resounding success.

Last summer, DFM farmers gave over 6,000 pounds of leftover produce which SOSA volunteers distributed to elderly and low-income families in Davidson.  A whole lot more was gleaned straight from the farmers' fields -- over 26,000 lbs from Barbee Farms alone.
   Here's how it works:
1.  Buy produce for yourself, and buy a little extra for someone else.
2.  Place it in one of the coolers beside the DFM table
3.  Fill out your tax-deductible receipt for the amount you donated and sign the donation book.
4.  At market's end, SOSA volunteers pick up the food and take it directly to local churches, Mooresville Christian Ministries and other aid agencies.

Do you have extra produce in your home garden?   Bring it to the market and  we'll make sure it gets distributed with the rest.

TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE BENEFITS FROM HEALTHY FRESH FOODS FROM OUR LOCAL FARMS

THANKS TO OUR  FRIENDS OF THE MARKET
WE'RE 2/3 OF THE WAY TO
OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL!

corn
The DFM is a community-supported farmers market.  The funds for insurance, marketing, educational programs and outreach, tents, tables and supplies and to pay a market manager all come from local businesses, individuals and farmers.  It costs about $625 to run each of the 40 markets held year-round.

Your community market:
 - keeps farmers on their land
 - increases the community's capacity to feed itself
 - reduces the amount of fossil fuels needed to transport food
 - increases the availability of healthy food for all

So come by the DFM tent this weekend and give a cash, check or credit card donation.  You'll receive the following in return:

$5 to $24 donation - DFM bumper magnet
$25 - $99 donation - DFM tshirt
$100+ - DFM logo apron
Business donors  of $150 or more may also receive a link on the DFM website.

THANK YOU ALL!
