About Ceramika Vena:
Our Latest Addition to the Polish Pottery Mart
| |
Artists at Ceramika Vena |
Ceramika Vena is a fairly recent company which came into existence in 2003. Ceramika Vena's owner is a native of Boleslawiec, Poland, the country in which the unique Polish pottery we know and love originated.
Being a native of the Boleslawiec region, Ceramika Vena's owner decided to turn her passion and love for Polish pottery into a business.
"Since the moment the company was established, it has been drawing on the rich tradition [of Polish pottery], while at the same time introducing the spirit of modern styles as well as creating unique and remarkable decorative arts. The successive decorations created personally by the owner keep gaining the recognition from both domestic and foreign customers" (Ceramika Vena).
Ceramika Vena's stunning creations have even been declared by the National Artistic and Ethnographic Commission in Warsaw as an authentic regional craft.

One of Our New Patterns by
Ceramika Vena Revealed!
| | Ceramika Vena Pattern A105 |
This stunning pattern A105 is considered a Unikat Art decoration.
"Unikat Art decorations have a unique character and design standing out because of their rich coloring and variety of ornaments. They enrich the traditional palette of the decorations of the Boleslawiec region with the decorations sticking out because of the freshness of their colors and styles" (Ceramika Vena).
"The decorations are painted with brushes as well as made with the help of the stamp method. These decorations are especially appreciated by lovers of richly decorated pottery which preserves lightness and freshness" (Ceramika Vena).
We are so excited to have been able to give you a little sneak peek of what is to come from Ceramika Vena. We are expecting 3 more patterns from Ceramika Vena that are not featured in this article. Be the first to visit us when the pottery finally arrives! |

Poland's Armed Forces Day
| | Poland's Flag |
Poland's Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on August 15th. This day is "connected with the anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw in 1920, also known as the Miracle upon the Vistula" (Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
"The victorious Warsaw Battle, fought on 12-25 August 1920, during the war between Poles and the Bolsheviks, is considered a breakthrough in the history of the world. It was decisive not only for the independence of Poland, but it also protected Europe from the spread of communism and soviet totalitarianism" (Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
"To celebrate the day, garrison churches hold masses on behalf of soldiers, who fell in the fields of glory, and readings of the roll of the dead take place in cemeteries" (Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

Polish Recipe of the Month:
Fruit Cupcakes, Polish Style
By: Peter and Laura Zeranski
1 cup sugar 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1 cup flour 2 eggs 1 teaspoon baking powder 10 small peaches, peeled, pitted, and cut into small wedges (canned peaches will work just fine) 2 teaspoons sugar 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon confectioners sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream the sugar and butter. Add the eggs to mixture and beat well. Add the flour and baking powder and mix until totally incorporated. Using a nonstick cupcake pan with 12 cups, spray each cup with PAM or other cooking spray. Pour the batter into each cup, filling it only half way, leaving room for the batter to rise while baking. Place a peach wedge, on top of each batter cup - they will sink slightly. Mix the sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle lightly over the batter.
Bake for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove cakes from the pan and cool. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar just before serving.
Serves 8 to 12.
Note: Even though we've called these cupcakes, the batter is more like the texture of a coffee cake than traditional American cupcakes.
To purchase their cookbook, visit our shop in Historic Savage Mill!
