April
2011 |
|
Greetings!

There have been big changes here at The Polish Pottery Mart in Historic Savage Mill. We have officially moved into our newer, larger space and are so excited for you all to come out and see it!
With Easter and Passover upon us, it would be a great time to adorn your dinner table with a new piece of Polish pottery, whether it be a casserole dish, a serving bowl, or dinner plates. So, now is a great time to come and visit our new space!
In this month's newsletter, we will explore another famous Polish art form very different from Polish pottery known as wycinanki. We will discuss our big move and plans for our Grand Opening Celebration! We will also reveal information about some new items that have arrived and share some news about events this month that will be occurring outside of Historic Savage Mill that The Polish Pottery Mart will be a part of.
And we could not forget our Recipe of the Month! This month we have featured a recipe for a Honey Cake by Peter and Laura Zeranski, the authors of Polish Classic Cooking. We plan to carry their cookbook very soon and will notify you when we receive the shipment!
We hope you are doing well and we hope to see you soon!
Sincerely,
Jim & Diane Richardson

Polish Pottery:
Not the Only Famous Art Form in Poland
While Polish pottery is a beloved and extremely respected art form in Poland and around the world, Poland is also well-known for its folk paper cut-outs or
wycinanki (pronounced vee-chee-non-key). These paper cut-outs are created by hand in mostly rural areas of Poland. Just as Polish pottery varies in style and complexity, so do these paper cut-outs. Artists use various layers of paper to fold and cut into numerous shapes. Most of these shapes are inspired by nature and contain the repetition of a symmetrical pattern. The numerous shapes created by the various artists are also accompanied by a plethora of vibrant colors. It has been said, that the wycinanki of a region can be identified by the variation of colors used and the design.
Such an art form dates back to the mid-1800s in Poland, where peasants created these cut-outs to decorate their small cottages. Today, wycinanki is created during special times, such as Christmas and Easter, to decorate homes. They are also given as gifts.

The Big Move
The time is finally here! We are officially moved in! The pottery has been placed, and even displayed on brand-new shelving that has also been made in Poland!
We send many thanks to the Savage Mill staff for assisting us with our move. We also would like to give a special thanks to Charlotte, our interior designer for our business, who turned our vision for our new space in to a reality.
We are still in the process of planning for our big grand opening. We will send you an invitation as soon as we have decided on a date and all the festivities for your enjoyment.
We hope you can make it to our celebration, but if you are unable to, we still hope to see you soon! |
