Don Rydman had many of the same needs those entering retirement often do: keeping busy and earning additional income. He tried several self-employed ventures without much success. After help from SCORE and input from the Yates County Industrial Development office, he started a shop in a weekend arts-and-crafts market. Unfortunately he didn't make any money. However, after vacationing in the Southwest he decided to start offering Native American Art. Read more. |

February 18, Washington: The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act contains a package of enhancements to current SBA programs. The stimulus bill attacks several problems facing small businesses at once by reducing fees, guaranteeing a greater share of certain loans, expanding capacity in the Microloan program, providing new loans to help small businesses keep their doors open through economic hardship, as well as new mechanisms to help unfreeze the secondary markets for SBA-backed loans.

Eight student among those who were recently awarded scholarships to the innovative one semester entrepreneurship course at Monroe Community College indicated that they had heard of the program through its publication in the Rochester SCORE chapter Newsletter. They are: Leah Bamberger, Giselle Buonomo, Adele Carliss, Brian Cheyne, Allen Galante, Ricardo Nieves, Barbara Furstoss, Caroline Ravines.
