Greetings!
 | |
Brenda Brown,
Director of Advancement |
One of my new favorite websites is "stumbleupon.com." When you go through a short registration process, it asks you what you are interested in- everything from philosophy to hockey- and then whenever you click on the "stumble" button, it serves up websites that will most likely interest you. I know, who has time for that? But I either have an insatiable curiosity or attention deficit disorder, so this type of thing really engages me after 9 p.m. when the four kids are in bed!
As I was doing some research the other day to see if our $29,466 Endowment per Student number was something to be worried about or to tout (turns out, we should be worried-- the top boarding schools have $500,000 Endowment per Student!), I "stumbled upon" boardingschoolreview.com. This is a very handy site for people who are looking for boarding schools in the U.S. as it ranks all 289 of us in various ways.
It turns out that this little school in the woods, Saint John's Prep, is ranked 12th out of 289 boarding schools, nationwide, in terms of highest SAT scores. And among schools of our similar size (200-400 students), we are fifth out of 104 schools!
You can be extremely proud of Saint John's Prep and know that we are leading the nation in SAT performance of boarding schools.
Wonder what I'll stumble upon next?

Career Day presenters needed on April 8, 2011 |
From Mary Jo Leighton '80, Director of Guidance, "All of you wonderful

Mike Hogan '61 shares his
career story at SJP |
alums and friends of Prep have interesting careers that our students would love to hear about! I am still in need of about a dozen presenters on Friday, April 8, 2011. Your duties would include arriving at 7:45 a.m. The first event is a keynote speaker (Dr. Chris Wenner '90) in the Weber Center followed by four breakout sessions in which you would present THREE times (35 minutes) to small groups of students. Your presentation could include handouts/power point/visual aids. The more interactive the better - we are talking 6-12th graders!! ATTENTION WOMEN - I encourage you to come back too! No offense men, but I am always short on women because there are less of us!! I will refuse no one!! Please RSVP to me if you need more information or want to sign up. Students will be signing up right after Spring Break so I need a final list by March 16th. Thanks for considering! Please email me or call 320-363-3339." |

Just welcomed a baby in your life? Let us know! | |
Attention Prep alumni and parents of alumni: if you have recently become a new parent or grandparent, we would love to help you celebrate by sending you a baby bib as our gift to you! Just send Mary an email and let her know who has recently welcomed a little bundle of joy in to the world. We would love a photo back of your baby wearing the bib for Prep Life's Class Notes!
A big thanks to Prep parent, Dave Phipps, for designing our "smart baby" for the bibs. Dave is a professional cartoonist and publishes a weekly e-newsletter, Toon-Up. If you'd like to sign up for a free subscription, please click here. |
