Greetings!
Well, here I sit up to my eyeballs in 5th grade states and capitals, wondering how? How in the world could it be September? I feel like I've been slapped by a calendar and three quarters of the pages went flying out. Don't even bring the high school thing into the picture... the sophomore year has already proven to be a pace we are praying we can keep up with.
Then throw in Irene! Who in the world invited her to our party? We hope that all of you enjoyed a day of rest... and "catch up" Saturday with not much clean up on Sunday. That's basically what we did. Personally, I had tons of things to do around the house, but it was so much nicer to snuggle up with a family member and a blanket and watch movies. It was time much needed for our family. Thank goodness for Irene!
Take care and hope to see you all soon.

ATTENTION TRACK 2 PARENTS
As most of you know, Chris and I are not big fans of our shortened hours during Track 2. We don't feel like it is appealing to most of our families, but appreciate your understanding and support of our somewhat awkward situation.
Since we pretend to be Rock It Scientists, we have been trying to figure out a better solution to our Track 2 dilemma. So, we would like your opinion. Would you rather we continue to offer half-day programs for the entire track out, or would you prefer one week of full-day camp, knowing that we would be closed the other weeks?
Please send us your thoughts and we'll figure it into the next track 2 track out and see how it works.

RIL RETURNS TO THE CLASSROOM
Our first presentation back in the regular classroom this school year was with Durant Road Elementary's third grade last week. Chris and I spent the entire day presenting phases of the moon activities to support their science objectives.
While I love what we offer our campers at our office, I also enjoy the change of venue and presenting back in the regular classroom. Since we were there for the day, some of the teachers sent notes from the students thanking us for our efforts. I'll be honest... I was amazed at what the kids pulled from our 45 minute presentation! It truly made me feel like it was worth every bit of our time.
We have so many activities that we can bring to the regular classroom to support your teachers. Please take a minute to share with your child's teacher and encourage them to contact us.

ENDEAVOR AFTER SCHOOL UPDATE
Tonya's just about finished her first Endeavor Charter After School Enrichment program, and has really enjoyed herself. The kids are great and they've all had a great time with Junkyard Science. During Quarter 2, she'll present Construction Chaos.....
Think you're a problem solver? Believe you have engineering qualities? Well Rock It Learning is coming to test your abilities in all three areas with Construction Chaos! Each week you'll be put to the test to design and build various structures... construct! We'll then test each structure to see which worked... and we'll mourn those that didn't... chaos! Whether they work (or not) you'll have an incredible building experience.
Registration for Quarter 2 programs continues through October 20, with classes beginning October 24, and is open to all kids, not just Endeavor students. Take a look at their website Endeavor After School Enrichment and come join the fun.

LUMPY'S ICE CREAM
I'm sure most of our campers as well as their parents enjoy a frozen treat every now and again, but we're not sure how many of you know you're actually just a scoop away from a smile... or just around the corner for some of the finest homemade ice cream in the Triangle!
Lumpy's Homemade Ice Cream is produced right here in the North Raleigh area. Buck Buchanan creates each special recipe and oversees every batch of ice cream that's made. He uses hormone-free cream that comes directly from Maple View Farm.
Buck is a very gracious man, often bringing in Lumpy's for our RIL campers to enjoy when his son, Mac, attends camp. Lumpy's caters to small group events such as birthday parties and to larger events like concerts and street festivals. Seek out your favorite flavor at Whole Foods in Cary or the Pizza Shack in Raleigh or stop in at some of the local venues around town to get a sample. Visit him at Lumpy's Ice Cream for more information.
