Dog-isms:

Side Dal
"When you bring a dog into your life, you begin a journey...a journey that will bring you more love and devotion than you have ever known, yet also test your strength and courage. If you allow, the journey will teach you many things, about life, about yourself, and most of all, about love. You will come away changed forever, for one soul cannot touch another without leaving a mark."

Hello Dal Lover!

June has been a rather incredible month. We had a huge influx of dogs, ten in all! Two Dals came to us as part of a joint Dal Rescue effort to save 19 starving dogs from a backyard breeder in South Carolina. Another three from a crowded Cobb County Georgia shelter. Why did we go so far? Because all the other rescues are slammed just like us, and it was the right thing to do. With the cooperation of others plus a little teamwork we can save them. All these dogs are so grateful to be living in better conditions with food in their bellies. Can you join our team in an effort to save some more?

The Great Dal Rescue of 2012

DRTB joins forces to save starved dogs

Pierce
PIERCE at only 33 pounds!

Earlier this month we got the call that a SC animal control had confiscated 19 dogs from a breeder/hoarder. A concerned neighbor had called to report the Dals being starved; some of them nursing young puppies. Three Dal Rescues, yes three, came to their aid (DRTB, Dalmatian Rescue SW Virginia, and Adopt-A-Spot in Virginia). Pat H. made the 450 mile drive up to SC to retrieve the Dals for DRTB. It was a shock to see how severely emaciated the poor dogs were. Of the six adult dogs, we took two males (PIERCE of the blue eyes & BEAUMONT) who are both severely underweight at 33 and 38 pounds!

Beaumont
BEAUMONT didn't weigh much more at 39 pounds :(

Thank-you Tanya N. for the overnight doggie rest-stop and Jim & Jennifer N. for their willingness to foster the boys. As for the rest of the Dals: the Dal mothers with 13 pups between them went to the other 2 rescues, another thin female went to DRSWV where it had a waiting adopter, and the other female dog was adopted locally by a firefighter. So far all dogs have tested heartworm negative, but need to gain significant weight and be altered prior to adoption.

We also have two more dogs arriving into rescue, MISTY & RUBY from Marietta, GA.  Our thanks go to Heidi, Samantha A., & Ronni C. for getting them down to Florida. RUBY is in need of heartworm treatment... CAN SOMEBODY BE HER FOSTER THROUGH TREATMENT??? If you can foster, please call Sherry at 727-787-1760 or email daldoglady@netzero.net as soon as possible. If you can't foster but would like to donate, funds can be sent through the DONATE button on our website at www.dalrescuetampabay.org.

Look Who is Visiting "Camp DRTB"!

Lots of fun and games as we look for new homes

Charlotte
Little deaf girl Charlotte joined our rescue.
Boy have we been busy! Seems Dals are landing in shelters fast & furious... it's not just us, all the Dal rescues are slammed. Joining us at "Camp DRTB" this month are Whisper, Emma, Madison, Krissy, Ariel, Charlotte, Ruby, Pierce, Beaumont, & Misty! Three of these dogs came to us from Marietta, GA alone. Thankfully, we had some adoptions in June. Jax, PollyAnna, Madison, & Cloud all found their forever homes. Hope's foster has also decided to fail and she will be returning to Diane's home soon.

So for 2012; with 16 dogs carrying over from 2011, 2 dogs returned, an additional 42 dogs into rescue, and two crossing the rainbow bridge; we have managed 27 adoptions with 2 more pending. That leaves us with the responsibility of caring for 30 Dals & dogs. ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS! Your help is very much needed. Our Dals & dogs, in various stages of readiness, seeking their forever homes are:
