Little Ember on the "Rez"
|
Once a rescuer, always a rescuer. This is the story of an Indian reservation pup that got thrown away in Arizona, only to find herself now an Indian princess in Florida! For those of you that don't believe in miracles, read on!
While visiting family in Tucson, I visited a PETCO store that was hosting an adoption day. They had 5 puppies in a crate that had been deserted on a reservation and were left outside to fend in the night cold - 28 degrees to be exact.
 | Little Ember liked to swim! |
A little white one with black spots caught my eye immediately. My first thought was if I could get that puppy to Tampa, I knew I could find her a great home. I asked the rescue group if I could carry her around the store for a bit. Using my best DRTB sales pitch, I asked everyone if they were looking to add a new dog to their home. One couple I asked said "We'd love to get a dog but we're moving to Florida next week". Oh really???? I jumped on that opening immediately and asked if they would mind a little puppy tagging along. Richard, the husband, was a retired firefighter so of course couldn't say no.

Purdy & her new mom Sandy.
|
I was able to get the rescue group to release Ember to me, later renamed "Purdy", and within a week she began her journey from Tucson to Tampa! I sent out photos of DRTB's newest little save that caught the eye of a close friend whose sister had a Dalmatian for years. She wanted to adopt the little puppy girl immediately! The rest as they say is history!
Thanks to SO many people for making this happen... Aleeta & Richard for transporting her across country, Chris D. for letting her have a temporary stay at her place, and George M. who picked her up in Jacksonville then brought her to Tampa to get her vetted and ready to go. More thanks for my friend Sue and her sister Sandy for giving Purdy Mia a forever loving home. Since I know where she lives so I'll get to keep tabs on the little "rez" dog I fell in love with.

A Record Year for DRTB Saving Lives! They just kept on coming...
 |
Hurley with his new boy Cole!
|
2011 was another record-breaking year for DRTB, surpassing the number of saves and adoptions in previous years. Monthly adoptions have been up, though December lagged. Cutie patootie Titan (renamed Hurley) went to his new home & joins DRTB alumni Henri along with Niki C & the boys. Last we heard he was learning to surf in addition to skateboarding. Our long time foster Phoebe finally found her new home just in time for the new year. Also, Rusha, an older liver Dal-boy found his new home. Lastly, little Ember from Arizona is expected to join Sue A. before the New Year begins. Plus we have several other dogs pending new homes after the holiday.

Anna Banana had her knee surgery & needs a home to recuperate.
|
As mentioned, w exceeded our 2011 totals with 92 more Dals/dogs that we rescued/helped beyond the initial 12 dogs we carried over from 2010. We topped last year's adoptions with 72 adoptions to date and have added 7 as care-for-life. We still have the responsibility of caring for 33 Dals/dogs of which ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS! Your help is very much needed for us to continue to give these dogs the care they so deserve.
The Dals & dogs still seeking forever homes are:
- Kimber: is back looking for a home with a taller fence... she is still a sweetie pie.
- PollyAnna: a smallish Dal-mixed gal from Americus, GA.
- Canaan: an 11.5-year-old Dal-mix gal with lots of life & spunk left in her.
- Misty Rose: our Citrus County abuse case Dal, now recovered, is ready for a home.
- Betty: a senior from Miami-Dade is in need of a CFL home.
- Ghost: a 3-year-old Miami Dal-mix missing an eye & due to have his damaged leg amputated.
- Anna Banana: a 9-month-old girl who just had surgery to repair her damaged knee.
- Chloe: a SC senior in search of a comfy bed by your feet.
- Sam III: a 2-years-old Dal-mix undergoing HW treatment has a home on his horizon... we hope.
- Finster: a 4-year-old Lab/Rotty who needs a special owner with lots of experience.
- Maggie Mae: a six-year-old Beagle/Boxer-mix who loves people, but other dogs not so much.
- Buddy: a 5-year-old Dal/Lab-mix who is a mellow fellow.
- Snoopy: a 8-month-old Lake County abused Dal-mix.
- Dottie: a 4-year-old, HW+, Dalmatian female from the Hillsborough shelter.
- Jethro: a Dal-mix just arrived from Chipley, FL.

Buddy shows he is ready for adoption!
Additionally, there is a courtesy post for:
Bentley: a young Lab-mix Patch: a young Pointer-mix
We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!
