Dog-isms:

Side Dal
Little Lost Pup
Arthur Guiterman

He was lost!-not a shade of doubt of that;

For he never barked at a slinking cat,

But stood in the square where the wind blew raw
With a drooping ear and a trembling paw
And a mournful look in his pleading eye
And a plaintive sniff at the passer-by
That begged as plain as a tongue could sue,
"O Mister! please may I follow you?"

A lorn wee waif of a tawny brown
Adrift in the roar of a heedless town.

Oh, the saddest of sights in a world of sin
Is a little lost pup with his tail tucked in!
He won my heart, for I set great store,
on my own Red Beaut, who is here no more.
So I whistled clear, and he trotted up,
and who so glad, as that small lost pup.

Now he shares my board and he owns my bed,

And he fairly shouts when he hears my tread;
Then, if things go wrong, as they sometimes do,
and the world is cold, and I'm feeling blue
He asserts his right to assuage my woes
With a warm, red tongue and a nice, cold nose
And a silky head on my arm or knee
And a paw as soft as a paw can be.

When we rove the woods for a league about
He's as full of pranks as a school let out;

For he romps and frisks like a three months' colt,
And he runs me down like a thunderbolt.
Oh, the blithest of sights in the world so fair
Is a gay little pup with his tail in the air!

Hello Dal Lover!

We are always busy, busy, busy finding ways to keep rescuing those spots at-risk. Fundraising is always key to making this possible. With that said, we hope that everyone will come out in force and show support for our Dals at this year's Dal-loween fundraiser (maybe even take another spot into your heart). Let us show you our sincere appreciation for all that you've given to help our rescue continue.

Fundraiser Reunion Helps Save Spots

Dalloween 2011 flyer

TWO WEEKS until our Dal-loween Festi-Dal on Saturday, October 15th at Lake Park, 17302 N. Dale Mabry Highway in Lutz! We are working till we are dog-tired to make this the best one yet.

We have so many things planned for you this year. We have added a "Kissing Spot" where your smooch can help save a pooch. Gary Gero's Bird's & Animals Unlimited, premier animal trainers in the movie industry, will be brings one of the Marley & Me dogs and another surprise animal star. Brenda Knoll will be doing photos of your pets with a portion of each portrait supporting DRTB! We will have our costume contest and Bone Bob - Popcorn Toss - Pumpkin Dash games. We will challenge you to guess the spots on the Dal.

Firetrucks

We have some fantastic silent Auction items like Disney passes, Sea World Passes, Florida Aquarium passes, fine wines, an autographed Stamkos puck from the Tampa Bay Lightning, and many other cool items. We will have a 50/50 drawing... who doesn't need some extra spending cash? Of course, there will be the Chinese auctions (raffles) too.

We will have a vegetarian lunch for $5, and plenty of human & doggy treats. So please come on out to join us. Invite your friends. Strut your spots (and non-spots), meet new and old friends, have lots of fun and help us raise money to keep on saving even more spotted lives!

Our Lost Boys

We're Working Hard for New Homes

Sarge
"Lost boy" Sarge waits for a home

We blink, just a second, and next thing you know there's another un-neutered, stray, Dal-boy in danger of animal control. Three such endearing juvenile "Dal"-inquents came into rescue recently with 2 still needing new homes.  We are like Wendy trying to save the lost boys from the follies of Peter Pan owners and desperately trying to keep them from the tick-tocking croc! Our luck dogs this month are:

Charlie: Our first Lake City Dal that found a home quickly.

Tyler: A "lost boy" found sitting roadside late at night. Pat H. became an immediate foster failure over this cute, deaf-boy.

Fella: One of the Greenville Dals went almost immediately to his new home

Buzz: Who flew into rescue became a permanent member of foster Mom Karen H.'s pack. Agility is in his future.

Pixie: Our petite second Lake City Dal also was adopted quickly.

Fido: The other Greenville Dal had a home awaiting upon arrival

Ullee: One of the Dal-mix brothers from Pasco County.

Andyman
Goodbye Andyman
Of course, we added six more dogs in which keep us still on overload. There was heartache too. We said goodbye to sanctuary dog Andyman who, while not a Dal, lived a comfortable long life with Susan. This little hound will be sorely missed. We also learned that of our urgent plea dogs, only Bobbi made it safely to a rescue in Miami... Dogspeed Bucky.

Teegs
Teegs wants you to find him

So for 2011 our totals are 72 more Dals/dogs that we rescued/helped beyond the initial 12 dogs we had from 2010. We have 52 adoptions so far this year and added 5 as care-for-life. We still have the responsibility of caring for 36 Dals & dogs of which ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS! Your help is very much needed for us to continue to give these dogs the care they so deserve.

The Dals & dogs still seeking forever homes are:

  • Phoebe: a 2-year-old, HW+ Pointer/JRT-mix girl from AL.
  • Tango: a 8-year-old Dal/Cattledog-mix boy with hip dysplasia who was returned to us, but now that he is back on his meds he is ready to be your boon companion.
  • Champ: a Dal-mix boy just arrived from Broward County.
  • PollyAnna: a smallish Dal-mixed gal from Americus, GA.
  • Julius: an emaciated, wounded, ~7-year-old Dal from Putnam is in treatment and regaining strength.
  • Canaan: an 11.5-year-old Dal-mix gal with lots of life & spunk left in her.
  • Sam (too): also from Pasco's shelter, he's a a 2-year-old "LabraDal" ready for his new home.
  • Misty Rose: our Citrus County abuse case Dal, now in recovery.
  • Teddy: named for Theodore Roosevelt a 10-month-old male Dal-mix from Pasco County that was found stray with his brother Ullee.
  • Luka: a female Dal-mix from Jacksonville
  • Betty: a senior from Miami Dade in need of a home.
  • Kimber: has returned, she needs a home with a taller fence.
  • Kona: 6-months-old from Greenville, SC, this Dal-mix is the sweetest pup.
  • Sarge: Under a year old this deaf, oh so handsome, Dalmatian need an experienced home.
  • Teegs: About a year old, this Dalmatian was also a lost boy and needs a home with activity.
Kona
Pretty baby Kona is waiting for you!

Additionally, there is a courtesy post for:

Jackson
Jackson

 Maggie Mae:  a 6-year-old Beagle/Boxer-mix

Bentley: a young Lab-mix

Jackson: a year & a half old Lab/hound mix

We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!

Just a Little Kiss Can Make a Difference

Susan Mikey Siren

There's nothing to make your day better than a big sloppy kiss from your best furry friend. The dogs that we rescue day after day would never have enjoyed another smooch had it not been for your help.

So we REALLY need each and every one of you to come out to support Dal-loween this year. Besides all the usual fun and games, we've got some exciting new things planned, including the "Dal Kissing Spot". We've been working hard to get some really special raffle and silent auction items we think you'll like. There will be some cool new DRTB stuff for sale that we hope you'll like. A lot of our volunteers are working really hard to make this a good time for all.

So won't you come out to have lots of fun, meet Peyton - a canine movie star, see some old friends and meet some new and most of all... help us keep saving those spotted ones we so dearly love!   I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there...

Hugs, Susan
