Hello Dal Lover!

Happy Birthday DRTB! We just turned 8-years-old this July 25th and enjoyed well wishes from all over the world. In these 8 years we have more than 500 adoptions with countless other dogs saved or helped.. a tradition we intend to continue! Thank-you to you all who have made us so successful!
"You paused outside to look into my cage. I tried to play it right, wanting to catch your eye with a shy glint in my own, a soft bark that said, "Choose me," in a canine grammar I hoped you'd understand" ~ R.S. Jones, his account of his dog Scout's adoption from a shelter

Please Keep Answering Our "PLEAS"
So Much Rides on Your Responses
 |
Misty Rose thanks you too!
|
You are all the best! We send out pleas for help and you answer. We try not to send them out except when we are really desperate. Unfortunately, this month we were desperate a lot.
First came Daisy, a stray found in Pasco County by a Good Samaritan. She is very senior Dal who really needed some TLC; we had no place for her to go. Thankfully, Sue and Tom P. answered our/her prayers. They have taken her into their home and are tending to her every need.
Misty Rose, a cruelty case, was just picked up from the shelter today. She is now safe and sound with Super Foster Mom Judy F.. She has a long, long way to go to get healthy again, but thanks to your donations and love for her she will get the best of care.
 | Gordy shares his thanks too! |
Two other seniors we didn't even get pleas out for also got the help they needed. Gordy is an old boy and shelter staff favorite from Georgia we rescued. He was just diagnosed with congestive heart failure. He is doing great on his meds and has found a space in Janet and Lily's hearts with their two other old spotted DRTB rescues, London & Lulu Princess. Abby, renamed Allie, an old spot from the Miami-Dade shelter is now with new DRTB care-for-life home Susan C. and her two daughters. They are madly in love with her despite her old age and Susan is even cooking batches of homemade dogfood for her.
Warm HUGE hugs go to all the volunteers involved to make these rescues happen... Sherry and Pat who work tirelessly to coordinate, Laura D. our new GA transporter, Lee S. our always transporter, Paw Prince for letting us just show up whenever and taking such good care of our rescues, Linda M. our South Florida rescuer, Mellisa our South Florida transporter, and to our Jay C. whose London Sanctuary rescued Lug (a blue Staffordshire, who was found with Misty Rose). More hugs go to those who are caring for these beautiful, amazing dogs that ask for nothing, but give so much in return.
I'm always so proud of all of you!
Susan

Is Eight is Enough???
Senior Dals & Dogs Inundating Rescues!!
 |
Simply Spot, now called Sparky, sleeping with his glow-in-the-dark ball.... nighty night :D
|
It seems we have dogs falling out of the sky... every time we opened an email there was another one about to land on us! This month we have had 16 dogs come to rescue, of that 8 were seniors. We are not alone; all the Dal rescues are facing this issue and we are desperate for fosters/adopters willing to give the oldsters a chance. Good news is we have been getting a good number of adoptions, though it is not a perfect balance. Going to homes this month have been:
Simply Spot was adopted by repeat adopter Lynnette Z. after losing her sweet boy Lucky. His new name is Sparky and he love his new glow in the dark ball, even to the point of sleeping with it.
Spirit found his new home with DRTB supporter Renee W. Spirit is having a great time with his new brother.
Bobbie was just the dog to convince foster Mom Carol that she was the dog to flunk with... the will have lots of fun together.
Patch who joined several DRTB alumni at Jim W.'s place in GA.
Kahuna had a false start, but then won his lottery finding the perfect home for himself with Patrick McG.
Patches was a pathetic case that captured our hearts... she quickly moved from the Orlando shelter to a new home with her second chance.
Kimber formerly of Americus, GA now has a new name, Cleo, and a new mom, Darlene.
Daisy our senior foundling has found refuge with Sue & Tom P... thank-you for answering her prayers.
Precious decided to steal the heart of her transporter and now calls Laura D. "Mom".
Olivia has moved in to Claudia R.'s after she had to say goodbye to her Lillian. Their hearts can heal together.
Simon proved dog enough to convince our Uncle Frank to flunk fostering... once you saw them together there was no doubt this was meant to be.

You can still smell puppy-breath on little Ricki

So for 2011 our totals are 55 more Dals/dogs rescued/helped beyond the initial 12 dogs we had from 2010. We have 37 adoptions this year and added 5 as care-for-life. We also said goodbye to CFL Eden who crossed the Rainbow Bridge early in July. We now have responsibility of caring for 36 Dals & dogs of which ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS! Your help is very much needed for us to give these dogs the care they so deserve.
The Dals & dogs still seeking forever homes are:
- Tango: a 8-year-old Dal/Cattledog-mix boy with hip dysplasia who was returned to us, but now that he is back on his meds he is ready to be your boon companion.
- Freckles: a forced-surrendered, emaciated 7-year-old male Dal from Levy County who had just eye surgery for entropian and is now gaining some badly needed weight.
- Blue: another forced-surrendered, emaciated 5-year-old male Dal from Levy County who is in heartworm treatment.
- Phoebe: a 2-year-old, HW+ Pointer/JRT-mix girl from AL.
- Buzz: a Dal-mix boy from GA who arrived with the help of pilots Elliot & Ray.
- Champ: a Dal-mix boy just arrived from Broward County.
- PollyAnna: a smallish Dal-mixed gal from Americus, GA.
- Sam: a Pasco Dal-mix now on his way to Orcas for a new life.
- Julius: an emaciated, wounded, ~7-year-old Dal from Putnam is in treatment and regaining strength.
- Canaan: an 11.5-year-old Dal-mix gal with lots of life & spunk left in her.
- Joey: a 3-month-old Dal-mix youngster from Miami with the cutest ears ever.
- Sam (too): also from Pasco's shelter, he's a a 2-year-old "LabraDal" ready for his new home.
- Dolly: a 3-month-old Dal-mix youngster from Bainbridge still reeking of puppy-breath.
- Ricki: a 3-month-old Dal-mix youngster from Citrus County.
- Misty Rose: our Citrus County abuse case Dal, now in recovery.
 |
With those little 'Roo ears, Joey will have you bouncing with joy!
|
Additionally, there are 2 courtesy posts for: - Maggie Mae: a 6-year-old Beagle/Boxer-mix
- Cole: a 5-year-old Dal/Pointer-mix
We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!
