I lie belly-up

In the sunshine, happier than

You ever will be.

Today I sniffed

Many dog butts - I celebrate

By kissing your face.

I sound the alarm!

Paperboy - come to kill us all -

Look! Look! Look! Look! Look!

I sound the alarm!

Garbage man - come to kill us all -

Look! Look! Look! Look! Look!

I lift my leg and

Whiz on each bush. Hello, Spot -

Sniff this and weep.

I Hate my choke chain -

Look, world, they strangle me! Ack

Ack Ack Ack Ack Ack!

Sleeping here, my chin

On your foot - no greater bliss - well,

Maybe catching cats.

Look in my eyes and

Deny it. No human could

Love you as much I do.

Hello Dal Lover!

Life can be so random, one minute you are quietly sitting in traffic, the next you see a car is flipping over and moving toward you! Thankfully, in this case only vehicles were hurt and no lives seriously harmed, but it leaves you wondering "what if". Our dogs have faced many "what ifs" in their lives. What if my family didn't lose their home, what if there wasn't a new baby, what if, what if??? Those of us at DRTB try to make the "what ifs" into happy possibilities with your help of fosters and donations. We never want a "what if rescue can't come for me in time" to happen to our spots. Here's hoping that our summer has many happy possibilities coming.

Our Summer Spots

And We Don't Mean Vacation

Bill-E is home

I like it here just fine :D

While others get to head for the beach or mountains, our vacations are "stay-cations" spent with the spotted dogs. Summer doesn't slow the influx of dogs into shelters... if anything they increase since people are on the move. May was a slow adoption month with only 2 dogs finding homes. Linda McL. has become a foster flunkie again! Bill E
(adoin) requested permission over the Memorial Day weekend to live permanently with DRTB rescues Maya & Leila plus rescued Monroe & Mack. Of course, Susan granted his wish with a resounding YES! Also, Hope found her new home and we are very happy for her.
Phantom

Phantom flew in with Pilot Elliot

Of course, dogs going out a suppose to make room for dogs coming in. That is what we hope, but rarely achieve. Joining rescue this month are
Pasco (Jasper), Spotty (Milo), Phantom, & Power... plus we are expecting 2 soon from Americus called Kimball & Six.

Our 2011 totals are 32 more Dals/dogs rescue over the 12 dogs we carried over from 2010. We have 21 adoptions this year and added 2 as care-for-life. We now have responsibility of caring for 36 Dals & dogs of which ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS! Your help is very much needed for us to give these dogs the care they so deserve.

The Dals & dogs still seeking forever homes are:
  • Olivia: a small sweet girl from Jax who is ready for adoption, but maybe a home without cats.
  • Alanya: a big Dal-mix gal from Collier who is finished with HW treatment and ready for a new home.
  • Oliver (Ollie): a 8-year-old Dal/Lab-mix boy from Pasco County.
  • Harley: a 8-year-old Dal/Cattledog-mix boy with hip dysplasia who was returned to us, but now that he is back on his meds he is ready to be your boon companion.
  • Freckles: a forced-surrendered, emaciated 7-year-old male Dal from Levy County who had just eye surgery for entropian and is now gaining some badly needed weight.
  • Blue: another forced-surrendered, emaciated 5-year-old male Dal from Levy County who is in heartworm treatment.
  • Bobbie: a 1-year-old girl with a shortened tail from Tampa who just loves people & has started her HW treatment.
  • Kahuna: a young mix boy from Americus that is "the perfect dog", but energetic.
  • Spirit: A tiny, senior mini-Dal male who loves laps!
  • Banjo: a sweet senior heartworm positive Dalmatian male in need of comfy home to live out his time.
  • Jasper: a cute 6-month-old Dal/Lab-mix boy who will steal your heart!
  • Patches: a 2-year-old, HW+ Pointer/JRT-mix girl from AL.
  • Spotty (Milo): a small 3.5-year-old Dal/Whippet-mix, HW+, boy from Tampa.
  • Phantom: a Dal-mix boy from GA who arrived with the help of pilots Elliot & Ray.
  • Power: a Dal-mix boy just arrived from Broward County.

Spotty

Milo wants you to pick him!
Additionally, there are 2 courtesy posts for:

We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!

DRTB Expands Circle of Compassion

A Diamond in the Rough

Diamond

Typically we rescue dogs from being euthanized at shelters. Recently we were able to help a pretty senior Dal girl whose owners are destitute, but didn't want to lose their lifelong companion.

Cathy sent an email begging for help with their situation. Their mother had passed away, the house was being foreclosed on, and Cathy lives on $449/mo. disability with her son.  Sister Debby, also now jobless, lives in an apartment where only dogs under 30 pounds are allowed. So Diamond, their 12-year-old lifelong Dalmatian, was living in the abandoned house. They feed and watered her 2-3 times a day, but with the utilities shut off they were getting worried about the coming hot days. Poor Diamond was being eaten alive by fleas, but they couldn't afford good quality prevention. Could we please help Diamond?

DiamondThanks to your ongoing donations, we were able to send poor Diamond to the vet who described her as being miserable, but still in good spirits. She had ear infections, was flea ravaged, had a UTI, and some arthritis was setting in. We're happy to report that the latest email from Cathy reports that "Diamond is doing wonderful... fleas are gone and skin is healing. She seems so much more alert and happier. We can't thank you enough for the help you have given her and us. God bless you."  For now, Diamond is now quietly living in the apartment while Cathy applies for Section 8 housing that will a permit a larger dog like Diamond.

We can't thank you enough for helping us help the spots where the need is. DRTB's full story on Diamond will be featured in the Grey Muzzles annual newsletter and on their website highlighting stories that help low income families keep their pets. Look for it soon on www.greymuzzles.com.

A special thanks to Luc and Laura who helped us get photos of Diamond for the story.
