"RESCUE ANGELS"
Tail tucked between your legs, Confusion in your eyes- I know it's hard to understand That someone heard your cries.
When loneliness is all you know And pain is all you feel And no one can be trusted, And hunger's all too real...
That's the time the Lord sees you And lets you know He's there That's when He sends His messengers The hearts that love and care.
Yes, rescuers are angels You cannot see their wings, They keep them neatly folded As they do their caring things.
The medicine to make you well Good food to make you strong, And finally to help you learn That hugs are never wrong.
The perfect place then must be found The home where you can live Secure and safe and happy With joy to get and give.
When you reach your Forever Home, Your place to feel whole, The Angels smile, and off they go To save another soul.

Hello Dal Lover!
All of us here at DRTB would like to wish you and yours the happiest & healthiest of holiday seasons. Our own Christmas wish is to continue helping the abandoned spots for another year and that you will join us again in saving them. The BEST gift we could receive would be FOSTER HOMES so we can save 2 more babies from a Jacksonville shelter.
While we are a small rescue we have managed to make an impact all over. Many of you know, not all our dogs are in Florida, if you'd like to read about Susan's efforts in WA it can be found in this Islander article.

If You Must Re-home... to craigslist or NOT?
The internet can bring us wonderful things, it's one of the primary ways we find at-risk Dals and gather the resources to help them. However, sometimes a good idea can be misused. Our case in point is one of our recent rescues, Ginger. We were contacted by a Manatee County shelter because they had just forced a surrender of 16 more dogs from a person who weeks before was forced to surrender nearly 50 dogs for whom they could not provide adequate care. Turns out this person was surfing craigslist for free purebreds then reselling those that were altered and breeding those that were not. This was hoarding & backyard breeding at it's worst. Sad thing is many owners of these dogs were expecting their dog to go to a home, not a puppy mill, while others may not have cared just wanting to be rid of a problem. Regardless, these dogs did not get the good life they deserved.
Pets are living creatures; it's an owner's responsibility & commitment to keep them from harm. Life throws us all curveballs so re-homing sometimes cannot be avoided, but do it in a way that protects the pet. If you know someone that is forced to find their pet a new home, please encourage them to do their research, ask a rescue how best to go about re-homing, get vet checks of potential adopters, and NEVER EVER let the dog go for FREE! Ginger's life could have been an endless cycle of puppies & neglect, but she got lucky... she got DRTB to make sure she gets a better life. Ginger now has wonderful home waiting for her once she is spayed; wish they all were so lucky.

Dear Santa, "We'd like HOMES for Christmas"
NINE more Dals and dogs came into rescue in November, all in little over a two week period... can you say OMG! What do you do? It's so sad to see all those pleading faces needing rescue. So we did what we usually do, we sucked it up, sent out pleas, and started pulling. In came Charley a very obese Dal-mix with a thyroid issue, cutie-patootie Rufus, beautiful Olivia, near perfect Blaze, sadly neglected Wendy, regal Alanya, bouncy Pongo, gorgeous Ginger and a new boy who was found with a chain around his throat yet unnamed. Of course, 3 are definitely heartworm-positive. ALL of them want new homes for Christmas and we may be able to grant that wish for some, but not all.
Going to new homes this month were 3 lucky dogs, they are:
- Taffie: who finally found her new home here in Tampa
- Mia: was also adopted locally after traveling up from Miami
- Champ: found the perfect home for him with lots of room to run and no other dogs to pick on.
We have high hopes for Wendy, Walter, Rufus, Pongo, Blaze, and Ginger in the next month. Others like Petey & Charley will become care-for-life. Still there are just too many other dogs in shelters hoping their wish comes true too. RIGHT NOW THERE ARE 2 DAL-MIX PUPPIES IN A JACKSONVILLE SHELTER. WE NEED FOSTERS FOR THEM TO BE SAVED.

So far in 2010, we have saved 74 more Dals/dogs beyond the 16 dogs that we started with from 2009 (1 stayed with her family and 4 became care-for-lifers). We have found new homes for 56 dogs (2 were direct referrals to the shelter for adoption) and added another 7 as care-for-lifers, ALL would love SPONSORS! Right now we have 37 Dals & dogs under our care so you help is very much needed for us to give these dogs the care they so deserve.
Dals & dogs in NEED of forever homes are: - Apallo: a 2-year-old Dal-mix in Jax with such a winning disposition you have to love him.
- Marx: from Americus, a male 2 or 3-year-old loving goofball. He is a Pointer/Lab-mix who'd love to play ball with you!
- Maya II: a beautiful, sweet, 6-year-old, deaf purebred surrendered by her owner. Her allergy symptoms have vastly improved with proper care and coat is looking lovely.
- Dolly: from Lake County, a mostly Lab-mix with spots who finished HW treatment and wants her new home!
- Dusty: a Velcro 1-year-old GA Dal/Dane-mix boy who just wants someone to love and be by your side.
- Cherokee: also from Americus, is a young female Pointer/Dal-mix who wants an active lifestyle too!
- Diamond: saved from Miami-Dade, is an older spotted love who can still steal hearts.
- Leila: also a lovely senior Dal girl from Miami-Dade in need of a home.
- Walter: a sweet senior boy abandoned in a Jacksonville backyard, he is now being treated for heartworms & has hopes of a home again.
- Monty/Sid Jr: A deaf Dal/Pit who is a dead ringer for our sanctuary Sid... he is now in WA where he will look for a new home (or maybe steal Susan's heart).
- Olivia: a small sweet girl out of Jax who must undergo heartworm treatment.
- Alanya: A big Dal-mix from Collier who also needs HW+.
- Rufus: a 6-month-old Dal-mix from Starke who is so darn cute!
We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!
