Dal-loween Keeps Getting Better & Better!
WOW!!!
We owe a BIG THANK-YOU to EVERYONE! You made this Dal-loween the most successful one yet! We raised over $3000 that will help us pay down our ever increasing vet bill and keep us saving more spots ... ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

The weather was perfect for our day in Lake Park. Bumper & friends brought even more firetrucks this year. Susan, our founder, acted as emcee while Lee provided sounds. Food & drink contributions came from Ginny & Carol, Sherry, Carly & Brian, & Frank. Special additions this year came from Merna who provided music in the form of the WOOD SMOKE BAND and BRENDA KNOLL who took raised funds with her photography booth. We also want to thank Kathey for donating the cost of the shelter, Ronni for her generous donation in memory of Domino, and the Andersons for their generous donation.

Dal-loween can't be held without Contests, Games, & Auctions. We just love seeing the creativity & thought that goes into the costumes. Here are our winners:
- Costume Winner was Julie N's Stitch who came as a skeleton.
- Second place belonged to Karen H's Benjamin, he was a banana split.
- Third place was Marisa M's Dooley, the squirrel.
- Best Trick went to Buddy's Lola who played dead.
- Corona & Jackson won the Siren Sing-along; both were adopted by LouAnn M & Chris C.
Winners in our games were:
- Pumpkin Dash - Carly & Brian's Olivia.
- Popcorn Toss - was again won by Donner who belongs to Cathy.
- Bone Bob - Cheryl & Claude's Zeuss.
- Graveyard Ghost Watch - was an all-way tie! Somebody is training their dogs too well!
Our auctions & drawings did well this year, We drew the winner in our A Latte ~ A Life drawing conceived by Carol Chretien for her painting of Dusty titled, "Wait, Love, Pray ...for a home." This fundraiser brought in around $500 and was won by Debbie S. in memory of Brittany. We also raised almost $600 in our silent Auctions. Joanne D. won the 50/50 drawing and generously donated her winnings back to the rescue.

We also want to thank EVERYONE who brought donations to the picnic. If you have any pictures from this year's event please share them with us so we can get them up on the website.
Let's see if we can top this year's Dal-loween in 2011!

A Time to be Thankful
This month we have 4 very thankful pups that found their new homes. They are the lucky dogs since so many are still in shelters with too few getting a chance at having a loving family. Dalton's adoption was finalize this month. He was rescued from Georgia and now has a great home with Tom & Cathy in Clearwater. Hobo-Clay found his forever home in Washington State, his new name is Charlie Bear Paw. Dal-loween was very successful for Quincy who found his new home with the Jan & Ernie. They had just lost their Okie Dokie who they adopted from DRTB years ago and chose to honor his memory by saving another. The last adoption this month was little Ruby Rae from Warner-Robins. She was discovered at Dal-loween by Bumper & his wife... guess we'll see her riding the firetrucks next year.
We had hoped to see senior boy Domino this year at Dal-loween, we heard he was practicing for the games, but he suddenly became seriously ill and crossed the Rainbow Bridge just before our event. He was such a sweet gentleman and we know his Mom, Ronni, is heartbroken, but she gave him enough love to cover an entire lifetime and will watch over her from across the Bridge. So far in 2010, we have saved 65 more Dals/dogs beyond the 16 dogs that we started with from 2009 (1 stayed with her family and 4 became care-for-lifers). We have found new homes for 53 dogs (2 were direct referrals to the shelter for adoption) and added another 5 (maybe 6) care-for-lifers, ALL would love SPONSORS! Right now we have 30 Dals & dogs under our care that need your help too.
Those Dals & dogs in NEED of forever homes are: - Apallo: a 2-year-old Dal-mix in Jax with such a winning disposition you have to love him.
- Marx: from Americus, a male 2 or 3-year-old loving goofball. He is a Pointer/Lab-mix who'd love to play ball with you!
- Taffie: a ~1-year-old Whippet/JRT-mix sporting spots from GA. She wants to be your best girl.
- Maya II: a beautiful, sweet, 6-year-old, deaf purebred surrendered by her owner. Her allergy symptoms have vastly improved with proper care and coat is looking lovely.
- Dolly: from Lake County, a mostly Lab-mix with spots who finished HW treatment and wants her new home!
- Dusty: a Velcro 1-year-old GA Dal/Dane-mix boy who just wants someone to love and be by your side
- Cherokee: also from Americus, is a young female Pointer/Dal-mix who wants an active lifestyle too!
- Diamond: saved from Miami-Dade, is an older spotted love who can still steal hearts.
- Petey: from Brevard, is an older boy who got rejected by his owner after he went stray... another loving Dal-boy.
- Leila: also a lovely senior Dal girl from Miami-Dade in need of a home.
- Mia: again a senior Dal girl from Miami-Dade who came to us covered in ticks.
- Walter: a sweet senior boy left alone in a Jacksonville backyard, he is now being treated for heartworms.
- Champ: A gorgeous purebred 4.5-year-old whose family moved overseas.
- Monty/Sid Jr: A deaf Dal/Pit who is a dead ringer for our sanctuary Sid... he is now in WA where he will look for a new home (or maybe steal Susan's heart).

We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted! |
