Second Dog

Sometimes I look for traits in you
Of a little dog you never knew.......
A dog that loved me all his days
And understood in special ways.
But that's not fair to you, you elf;
You're not a substitute; but yourself!
You've eased the loss, soothed the pain
And tugged my laughter home again.
Yet, puppy, at times I almost start
When your eyes recall him to my heart;
You'll never lack for love, it's clear
Because of him, you're twice as dear.

Hello Dal Lover!

Fall is coming & with it our adoption events season goes into full swing! Our big Dal-loween event will be Oct. 23rd and returning to LAKE PARK, along with a host of other dog events we do. Please check our schedule on the left side bar, sign-up, and come on out to help. We need help getting dogs to events and people to let others know how great a rescued Dal can be.

We'd like to
thank Melanie for her wonderful donation to the dogs in memory of Wegener & Renee for her continuing monthly sponsorship (Renee, we can't find your email address). We have lots of Dals & Dogs that need monthly sponsorship so please check them out at www/dalrescuetampabay.org!

Dal-loween is Creeping Up!

It's almost for our Dal-loween Festi-Dal again! Please mark your calendars for Saturday, October 23rd to join us for our annual fundraising celebration of spots. We've decided to once again hold it at - Lake Park, 17302 N. Dale Mabry Highway in Lutz - despite an big increase in shelter cost & $2/car park admission. So this year we NEED your support more than ever to make this a success!

We are working on making this an exciting, fun day for all. We have Brenda Knoll coming to do photos of your pets with 50% spent on any portrait going to DRTB! You can view some of her work at www.Pbase.com/bknoll. It might even start you thinking about what great gifts they could make for the holidays. We are looking to add a new fun game while keeping the best of last year's contests & games. Put on your thinking caps to create the best costume for your pooches! Again, the top three winners will be awarded with a trophy and really neat prizes. We will be adding in a 50/50 drawing... who doesn't need some extra spending cash in this economy? Plus there will still be our usual drawings, silent auction, food with yummy treats, and more!

Here are some easy ways you can the spots:

  1. Advertise our picnic by placing Dal-loween flyers around town so we can get as many pooches there as possible.
  2. Ask any business/restaurant you support to donate an item for our auction. If you like it others probably will too... don't be shy

For a flyer or donation letter please email us at daldoglady@netzero.net.

So please come on out to join us. Invite your friends. Strut your spots (and non-spots), meet new and old friends, have lots of fun and help us raise money to keep on saving even more spotted lives!

Falling for Rescues

August's "dog days" brought a slow down in adoptions, but not in the number of at-risk dogs dumped in shelters. We still managed to save several older spots discarded by their families plus two of our youngest sister spots returned to rescue. Issac, a senior Dal we adopted out earlier this year, has returned to us as a care-for-life after his new Dad unexpectedly died. We did have several adoptions in August. Young Matey & pretty Kibo were both adopted into families and senior Dal-gal London, who was dumped for a baby, found her home with Libby & Lulu.

Returned to DRTB are Daisy & Lily, 2 Dal-mixes we saved from the Americus, GA shelter back in March this year. Now 9-10 months old, these sweet sisters are back in rescue. The girls are very attached to one another; everyone feels they are a bonded pair, so we'd prefer them to be adopted into one single home. Not always realistic, but what we'd like. They are typical teenagers, playful, fun-loving, but slightly undisciplined. We think with a bit of training, time, & understanding plus a fenced backyard they'd be wonderful family dogs. We noticed that the girls love to hangout in the kennel's kiddy pool... little bathing beauties. Also with us is Diamond a Dal-mix saved out of Miami-Dade and Petey from Brevard, a senior purebred whose family rejected after finding out he was impounded as a stray.

Can we play Ball now?
Marx
Thus far in 2010, we have rescued or helped 57 more Dals/dogs over the 16 dogs that were still with us from 2009 (1 stayed with her family and 4 are now care-for-life). We have found new homes for 43 dogs of which 2 were direct referrals to the shelter for adoption and added 5 (maybe 6) more care-for-lifers, ALL would love SPONSORS! Currently, we have around 30 Dals & dogs under our care.

Those Dals & dogs in NEED of forever homes are:
  • Chester: a 3-year-old Dal-mix boy from Orlando who really, really wants to GO to his new home!
  • Apallo: a 2-year-old Dal-mix in Jax with such a winning disposition you have to love him.
  • Marx: from Americus, a male 2 or 3-year-old loving goofball. He is a Pointer/Lab-mix who'd love to play ball with you!
  • Taffie: a ~1-year-old Whippet/JRT-mix sporting spots from GA. She wants to be your best girl.
  • Maya II: a beautiful, sweet, 6-year-old, deaf purebred surrendered by her owner. Her allergy symptoms have vastly improved with proper care and coat is looking lovely.
  • Dalton: from GA, a 2-year-old purebred Dalmatian boy now finished with heartworm treatment.
  • Rascal II: a friendly 2-year-old Dal/Hound-mix who'd love to take on someone with an active lifestyle.
  • Dolly: from Lake County, a mostly Lab-mix with spots who finished HW treatment and wants her new home!
  • Dusty: a Velcro 1-year-old GA Dal/Dane-mix boy who just wants someone to love and be by your side
  • Milton: a young, very handsome, smiling, purebred Dal boy.
  • Quincy: from Hillsborough, another sweet, smiling, Dal-boy about 6 years old & finishing heartworm treatment... what a love!
  • Cherokee: also from Americus, is a young female Pointer/Dal-mix who wants an active lifestyle too!
  • Diamond: saved from Miami-Dade, is an older spotted love who can still steal hearts.
  • Petey: from Brevard, is an older boy who got rejected by his owner after he went stray... another loving Dal-boy.
  • Daisy: half of our Americus sister dogs, with a hound-like mask and a sweet, shy disposition
  • Lily: the other half of our Americus sister dogs, looks more like a Dal and is a curious pup.

We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com.

PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!
Making Dal-loween Memories

What could be more fun than a beautiful photo of your spotted (or non-spotted) furry friend all dressed up in their Dal-loween costume? This year at our picnic, you can make that happen!

We're always looking for new ways to help finance our rescue efforts and this one is a winner. Brenda Knoll who specializes in Pet Photography is going to be available for pet portraits at our picnic. Photos can be with or without the humans. For just $5 she will email a photo for internet use only. For $10 you can get a 5x7 print or for $20 you can get an 8x10 print. Previews of your photos will be available online.

Brenda is donating half of all the sitting fees to DRTB so that we can keep on saving those spots we love. They could be a nice gift for a special someone. To see some wonderful examples of Brenda's work, go to her website at www.Pbase.com/bknoll. Her photos are just awesome!

So dress up those dogs in their best costume ever and get ready for a fantastic photo shoot! They could be a very nice gift for a special someone.
