Josh's Firehouse Dog Treats
They will not go quietly, the dogs who have shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know their spirit still survives.
Old habits still make us think we hear a scratch at the door.
Or step back when we drop a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place the food dish used to be,
And sometimes, coming home at night we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts belongs to them...and always will.

Hello Dal Lover!

Welcome to the dog days of summer, it's too hot for a dog to wag it's tail. Us humans feel the same way, but with Dal-loween looming we need to shake something. We are in need of YOUR help to round up auction / drawing items to make this the best Dal-loween yet!

We also want to send a special thanks this month to the Grey Muzzle Foundation for renewing our senior dog grant & Lou Anne for her grant which helps us care for our dogs. Money isn't everything, but it sure helps our dogs.

"We never really own a dog as much as he owns us. - Gene Hill

In Love with Spots

We sure are! Which is why we have so many awesome dogs just waiting for their forever homes. While some are purebreds others skate on the edge of Dal-dom, but are no less worthy of receiving a lifetime of love. We are ALWAYS chronically short on having FOSTER homes; Quincy is one who is more desperate for one than others. This sweet, smiling, tail-wagging Dal-boy has all the wonderful characteristics we love in our Dalmatians, but he is also heartworm POSITIVE. Treating him while he's living in a noisy kennel is too stressful for a good outcome. Please keep a SMILE on Quincy's face and consider fostering him through treatment. Beware, he may just steal your HEART!

The Dal-Dog Daze Returns

Can you say "Too many needy dogs?" Seems like we blink & 10 MORE appear!!!! We appreciate all of you that heard our pleas on behalf of the dogs, so many have gotten their 2nd & 3rd chances because of you.

JazzieMae & Oreo
Lulu
This July saw 5 more dogs adopted. JazzyMae came to us and was adopted by our Gainesville volunteer, Donna A., and will gain Oreo as a brother. The two dogs are having a great time together! Young Spot was quickly adopted by a family in Tampa. And Halligan once again gets to be someone's special baby as she goes to live with Amelia and get spoiled rotten. Brisket our 9-month-old foundling also quickly found his new home with the help of the Suncoast Animal League. Even Gypsy, the senior urgent from South Carolina, is heading for home in West Palm over the weekend. Thank you for reading her story and wanting to help this almost 13-year-old girl. We thought that was the end of this month's adoptions, but just in, LulaBelle, a 4-month-old cutie with lemon spots on her ears was adopted too!

Axel rip

Also this July, Susan had to say goodbye to two of the sanctuary Dals on Orcas Island when advanced age finally caught up with them. Axel & Bailey both crossed the Rainbow Bridge this last week of July taking pieces of our hearts with them.

Dusty wants YOU!
Dusty
Thus far in 2010, we have rescued or helped 54 new Dals/dogs beyond the 16 dogs that started the year (1 stayed with her family and 4 are now care-for-life). We have found new homes for 41 dogs of which 2 were direct referrals to the shelter for adoption and added 5 (maybe 6) more care-for-lifers, ALL would love SPONSORS! Currently, we have nearly 30 Dals & dogs under our care.

Those Dals & dogs in NEED of forever homes are:
  • Chester a 3-year-old Dal-mix boy from Orlando who wants to GO to his new home!
  • Apallo a 2-year-old Dal-mix in Jax with a winning disposition
  • Marx a 2-3 year old sweet male goofball who is a Pointer/Lab-mix. He wants to play ball with you!
  • Taffie a 9-month-old Whippet/JRT-mix with spots from GA
  • Maya II a purebred 6-year-old owner surrender who has allergies, but is a real love of a Dal
  • Dalton from GA,  a light HW+ 2-year old Dalmatian boy in treatment
  • Rascal II a friendly 2-year-old Dal/Hound-mix who'd love someone with an active lifestyle
  • Dolly, from Lake County, a mostly Lab-mix with spots who has begun HW treatment
  • Dusty a Velcro 1-year-old GA Dal/Dane-mix boy who wants someone to love
  • Arr Matey from Hillsborough a Dal-mix puppy who is cuter than the patch over his eye
  • Quincy, also from Hillsborough, a sweet smiling Dal-boy about 6-years-old... what a love!
  • Cherokee from Americus, GA a young female Pointer/Dal-mix
  • Kibo an owner-surrender whose family is returning to the UK
  • Milton, a young thin smiling purebred Dal boy is due in soon.

We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com.

PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!
Dal-loween Lurks Around the Corner

Dal-loween poster
Dal-loween is rapidly coming up upon us. We have a change in venue due to rising costs of using area parks. This year we will be holding our event at Starkey Wilderness Park in New Port Richey. We really need your help to make this year as successful as those in past years. We need volunteers to help round up items for our auctions & drawings. Gift cards & store certificates are fantastic... what ever you like is probably what  someone else would like also. Don't be too afraid to ask on behalf of our dog and let's make this year Spook-tacularly memorable!!
