Josh's Firehouse Dog Treats

THE STRAY

Monday, the old dog said that a crumb would do

Then On Tuesday the old dog asked me to make it two

Wednesday, the old dog said he'd prefer to have fish
And not on paper - he'd rather a dish!

On Thursday, the old dog said it was cold out there
So what about letting him sleep on a chair

By Friday the old dog made it perfectly clear
That he was planning to live in HERE

On Saturday night he took half my bed
And woke me up early to get himself fed

Today we'll have chicken because it is Sunday

I wonder what old dog will enjoy eating on Monday

Hello Dal Lover!

Happy Fourth of July to you all!

It's now official (drum-roll please)....we have a newly designed website with a brand-new web address...

We are still working hard to catch up on the backlog of stories and have a few kinks to work out, but with a bit more time we think you will find the new website absolutely Dal-icious :D

"Qui me amat, amet et canem meum." ("Love me, love my dog.") - St. Bernard, A.D. 1150, "Sermo Primus"

With Love & Gratitude

As we officially roll out our new website,

I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU  to Rich Newman who basically put DRTB "on the map"!  Rich created a website for us back in 2003 that let everyone know we existed and told the stories of the spots we were saving.  Shortly after he created our website, we started getting emails from as far away as Iraq and England.  Help and aide started coming and we were truly in the rescue business.  Which was really good because we had 27 Dals in our house and needed it!  Since then, we have rescued over 1,000 spotted and non-spotted dogs and have strived to make a difference in the world.  Rich made all of that possible and we will always remain extremely thankful and indebted to him.
Rich Newman
Our current website at http://dalmatianrescuetampa.tripod.com  has served us very well over the years.  Rich had long maintained it himself until his other passions of painting and writing became more than full-time.  Because the current website is done in html code and I am somewhat (okay a lot) technologically challenged, we needed something easier to update.  Our stories were getting way behind because of the time it took me to update.  Our new website allows us to update just like using a Word document so we will be able to get you updated stories and news every week.

We hope you like the new website and would love to have your feedback, good and bad, so that we can continue to improve it.

Thanks to all for hanging in there with us since 2003.... and Rich, you are the best!!!!!!

Independence Day Dally-style!

Thank-you to everyone who heard our pleas on behalf of our dogs, you have helped them gain their own special form of independence with new loving homes!

Pepper the new "Pixie"
Pepper
June was a fantastic adoption month with many Dals and dogs going to new homes. Sweet Panda, our special-needs Dal-gal with stiff knees, got her forever home. Shy playful Apallo found his new home in Tampa with Faith. He's quite the charmer and we hope to see him around town with his new Mom. Cutie Rascal, a young Border Collie/Dal-mix found a forever home locally too. His new name is Guapo which means handsome in Spanish. Purdy, our Dal-gal from the Lake County shelter, has been adopted by a wonderful family living in Franklin, NC, but they visit Florida often. Rambunctious, but oh so darling, Pepper was just adopted by a family who is providing her with a young girl to be her new BFF. Her new name is Pixie & we are expecting some really cute pictures from them. This month we rescued poor Sprinkles from a shelter in Titusville when she was dumped after having had a litter of puppies. This girl's luck has completely changed when Shelli adopted her this past weekend. Finally, Maya our sad Citrus County abuse case is well and thriving. She has just joined her new Mom, Linda who makes all those wonderful bracelets to help raise funds for DRTB.

Francis upon arrival at DRTB
Francis
In June our "sanctuary" grew when we added another care-for-life dog named Francis who was stray in a Wesley Chapel neighborhood. Rick came forward to help this old spot and give him some comfort in his twilight years. Now there is Lulu, who came to us from Panama City. Her issues may make her our 22nd care-for-life dog.

Dalton awaits a foster for HW treatment
Lulu
Thus far in 2010, we have rescued 41 new Dals/dogs beyond the 16 dogs that started the year (1 stayed with her family and 4 are now care-for-life). We have found new homes for 36 dogs of which 2 were direct referrals to the shelter for adoption and added 5 (maybe 6) more care-for-lifers, ALL would love SPONSORS! Currently, we have nearly 30 Dals & dogs under our care.

Those Dals & dogs in NEED of forever homes are:

  • Chester a 3-year-old Dal-mix boy from Orlando is finally healthy & ready to go!
  • Halligan a loving 6-year-old who was surrendered to a shelter because the family "downsized" the dog because of another baby
  • Marx a 2-3 year old sweet goofy Pointer/Lab-mix male who plays ball... he's a love
  • Taffie a 8-month-old Whippet/JRT-mix with spots from GA
  • Maya II a 6-year-old owner surrender who is healed from a skin infection & becoming a real beauty
  • Dalton from GA,  a light HW+ 2-year old Dalmatian boy starting treatment
  • Rascal II a friendly 2-year-old Dal/Hound-mix
  • Dolly, who just arrived from Lake County and began HW treatment

We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. We also have additional courtesy posts for:
  • Tuck/Spanky, a 14-month-old Dal/Am Bulldog seized in a neglect case
  • Samantha, a 2-year-old yellow Lab near Tallahassee
  • Brisket a 9-month-old, brindle, greyhound-like mix foundling at the Suncoast Animal League
PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!
Happy 4th Little Spot...

Lulu
As the 4th of July rolls around this year, "Princess Lulu" will finally have something to celebrate. The precious, petite little Dalmatian was dumped at a fire station in Panama City three weeks ago. She was very thin and filthy. The fire crew took her to the shelter where all the workers immediately fell in love with her.

At first glance, they posted her as 6 years of age. When her time was up and she was facing being euthanized, they called us and said "well maybe she is more like 8." Since a lot of rescues won't even consider taking seniors, we think they were even stretching 8. But everyone there loved her and didn't want to see her life end like that. Besides her advanced age, the next blow was she turned out to be heartworm positive. Would we still take her??? Of course, we ARE DRTB and we love the hardship cases. And thankfully we HAVE YOU to help us!!!! The plea went out. And help was on the way.

Poor Lulu received another blow after Karen took her to her vet. We found out her kidneys are not in good shape and her life expectation is maybe a year or so. But even with all the bad news for Lulu, we found a home for her. Even after just losing one of their own Dals, Janet and Libby are committed to seeing little Lulu through to her end. Maybe with a lot of love from them and from spotted senior sister Libby (also adopted from us), Princess Lulu may just surprise us all!!!  Happy 4th little spot......

------------------------------

Thank you SO much to Teri who drove all the way from Orlando to Panama City to get Lulu. And to Karen who provided a temporary safe haven. And to those of you who donated money in response to our call for help. It will so help for her vet bills. And to Pat for transporting her to her new home and to Janet and Libby for being her last chance.
