MY DOGS LIVE HERE

My dogs live here, they're here to stay.
you don't like pets, be on your way.
they share my home, my food, my space
this is their home, this is their place.

You will find dog hair on the floor,
they will alert you're at the door.
they may request a little pat,
a simple "no" will settle that.

It gripes me when I hear you say
"just how is it you live this way?
they smell, they shed, they're in the way.."
WHO ASKED YOU? is all I can say..

They love me more than anyone,
my voice is like the rising sun,
they merely have to hear me say
"C'mon girls, time to go and play"

then tails wag and faces grin,
they bounce and hop and make a din.
They never say "no time for you",
they're always there, to GO and DO.

and if I'm sad? They're by my side
and if I'm mad? they circle wide
and if I laugh, they laugh with me
they understand, they always see.

so once again, I say to you
come visit me, but know this too..
My dogs live here, they're here to stay.
you don't like pets, be on your way.
they share my home, my food, my space
this is their home, this is their place..

Hello Dal Lover!

If April showers bring May flowers, then our recent deluge of Dal-mix puppies makes this a good time to purchase bulbs from our Spot of Color fundraiser at Flower Power Fundraising. As we have said many times, fundraising is key to allowing us to continue to rescue. We want to give a big Thank-you to Mary Ellen who hosted "A Spot in Your Heart" a wine-tasting fundraiser; it was a wildly successful. And we'd like to thank those folks who clicked the Sponsor-A-Pet buttons on petfinder.com. Big or small, every bit helps to make a difference to our dogs.

And We Have a Winner... the Dogs!

Mary Ellen our hostess & wine auctioneer.

We held our 1st Annual Wine Tasting & Auction at the Madison in downtown St. Pete and it was a huge success! Mary Ellen's efforts on behalf of the Dals brought in close to $2000 for our dogs. That will go fast since we have had to kennel dogs when fosters are not available. Mary Ellen is an amazing hostess and auctioneer. With items available at auction like a weekend stay at the TradeWinds Resort or Marriott Orlando, LE prints by Carol Chretien, cigars, bottles of excellent vintage wines, Simply Spotted Photography sessions, gift cards, tee-shirts & more ... most everyone went home a winner. We'd like to thank Manes Imports for providing the wine, Mary Ellen for all her hard work, and volunteers Amy, Kathey, & Frank for providing support.

Stamps to the RescueAnother way you can win one for all shelter dogs is to purchase the new Stamps to the Rescue that Ellen DeGeneres is promoting to raise awareness and money for shelters. These are special postage stamps that will go on sale April 30th, but you can pre-order them online. Tampa's Main Post Office at the airport is planning a big rescue event to kick off the stamp debut... we plan to join them. Please buy some stamps and make every shelter animal a winner!
It's Raining... Puppies?

Sleepy Daisy & Lily
Daisy & Lily asleep
For a long time it seemed that we only had seniors come into rescue, but now we are having an influx of puppies. We just had 2 sister Dal-mixes from Americus, GA arriving with the help of new Facebook friend Kyle from Michigan. He brought the girls down to Tampa while on a trip to Florida... thank you so much Kyle! Both girls, Lily and Daisy, were adopted quickly by Kay and will always be together. No sooner did we blink then we got notice that the same shelter has another pair of Dal-mix sisters at-risk! So again we have stepped forward to take in Shiloh & Pepper and they will arrive early April courtesy of Teri N., Palin's mom.

In addition to our finding a home for Daisy & Lily, Penny (now called Lucky Joy) was taken on as a care-for-life by Sharon who previously adopted senior Precious. And Niki, Henri's Mom, has agreed to take in senior Samantha. Flo was also adopted this month by Fran and whisked off to her new home. Lucas, our swimming Dal, found his forever home too. Magnum finally went to his forever home with Doug in High Springs after over a half year with Jay. And it looks like Jasmine has an adopter that will be taking her home very soon.

So far in 2010, we have rescued 24 new Dals/dogs beyond the 16 dogs we had from the previous year (1 stayed with her family and 3 just became care-for-life). We have found new homes for 21 dogs of which 1 was a direct referral to the shelter for adoption. Currently, we have nearly 30 Dals & dogs under our care.

Those that are still seeking forever homes are:

  • Amber from Lake County, a Dal/Pointer-mix who just wants a lap & to cuddle
  • MilkNCookie from Jax is 10 years-old & HW free
  • Prudence a 7-9 year old girl now ready for her new home
  • Chester a 3-year-old Dal-mix boy out of Orange County now in heartworm treatment
  • Panda a special needs girl from Citrus County is ~6-years-old.
  • Pongo a 2-year-old boy who is velcro with people, not so much with cats
  • Halligan who was surrendered to a shelter because the family downsized their dogs to have another baby... Hallie shed :(
  • Maya a young abuse case from Citrus county who badly needs heartworm treatment
  • Savannah a 3-year-old  Dal mix from Brevard
Daisy

We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. We also have additional courtesy posts for:
  • Finster, a Rotty-mix, who resides with Lee S. in Homosassa Springs
  • JLo, an AmStaff girl, here in the Tampa Bay area
  • Carter, a young American Bulldog, also near Jacksonville
PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!

Finally, we have some sad news. Whisper the senior Dal we were taking from a closing rescue died shortly upon arrival. The stress of the move was just too much for her... we are devastated. Also, another sanctuary dog has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Dogspeed Lucy, eight years wasn't long enough.

Your Rescued Dog Pixs Needed!

FTLOR
FTLOR Calendar

It's time once again for your photo submissions for next year's "For the Love of Rescues" Calendar!

Photo submissions will be accepted for the 2011 calendar from April 1st-June 1st.

Submission guidelines are on  fortheloveofrescues.com

DRTB is a participating rescue and FTLOR does its best to include as many pictures from our group as possible (our group name is featured by the pix in the calendar). The more we submit, the more there is to choose from, and the more that will end up being used. Note:

  • There's never a cost to submit.

  • Only send pix of dogs that have found their homes.

  • No people in the pictures, dogs only.

  • 300 dpi or 300KB minimum for the pictures. (Just because it looks good on a computer screen, it might not translate to paper.)

  • DOG'S NAME. Adopted name is best; rescue name ok.

  • HAPPY ENDING STORIES. These stories are in the back of the calendar. Whatever little you know- how the dog came into rescue, what they overcame medically, comments from the foster family, what made the new family adopt them, etc.  Two-three sentences are all that is needed.

  • ADOPTER'S NAME/CONTACT INFO. If your dog is used in the calendar, you qualify for one calendar at $5 (plus shipping).

Note: June 1st is a STRICT deadline for submissions!

If you have ANY questions at all, please email fortheloveofrescues@yahoo.com at any time.

We can't wait to see all of DRTB's great pictures in the new Calendar!
