A FAITHFUL DOG

A Faithful Dog Will Play With You
And Laugh With You -Or Cry-
He'll Gladly Starve To Stay With You
Nor Ever Reason Why,
And When You're Feeling Out Of Sorts
Somehow He'll Understand
He'll Watch You With His Shining Eyes
And Try To Lick Your Hand.
His Blind, Implicit Faith In You
Is Matched By His Great Love-
The Kind That All Of Us Should Have
In The Master, Up Above.
When Everything Is Said And Done
I Guess This Isn't Odd
For When You Spell "Dog" Backwards
You Get The Name Of God.

can you find the dal?

Can you spot the Dalmatian???

Hello Dal Lover!

Another Dal-loween is behind us and this one was a great success. It was fantastic to see many of our former rescues visit with their new families. Plus, we raised enough funds to go save some more dogs! We are most thankful for everyone's help. So many dogs continue to face the peril of shelters so as you give your own thanks this season, please continue to remember our furry friends.

A Spook-taculer Dal-loween!

THANK-YOU EVERYONE for making this Dal-loween such a success! We raised $2000 to save more spots ... in these tough economic times that is absolutely amazing!

Group shot

We had picture perfect weather for our day in Lake Park; only a few clouds appeared near the end. Bumper & company brought 3 firetrucks for our Mardi Paws Parade. Food & drink contributions came from Mary W, Sherry M, Claudia R, & Frank N; plus we had pizza so no one went hungry. Susan emceed the event with the help of Lee S. We even posed for a group photo taken by The New Barker, what a sight it was with all those spots! Some of our supporting vendors attended as well. Craig Morse brought his yummy Josh's Firehouse Treats, Tera Hamby of Pampered Paw Gifts brought some wonderful gift sets; both donated items to help our cause. Paw Prince Pet Resort came too, they have helped us fill the gap when we have no fosters for a dog in need. US Bones sent some free bacon roll treats. Additionally, Tracy K, Linda M & Amy F provided items for sale to help the dogs. We encourage everyone to purchase their products & their links can be found under Benefactors.

Of course, what is Dal-loween without Contests, Games, & Auctions? NOT Dal-loween! There were some amazingly creative costumes, it was really hard to pick a winner, but our attendees did! Here is a list of all the costume & games winners:
  • Costume Winner was the team of Chloe & Zoe, "The Mardi Gras Girls" who own Janet S.
    • Second place was Shiner & Bernie dressed as "Dorothy & the Flying Monkey", Amanda H belongs to them.
    • Our Third place winner was a TIE with both Jenifer S's Tag "the Shark" & Karen's Ben "the Doctor" as our winners!
  • Best Trick went to Cruz an 11-year-old dancing star that was adopted by Mellisa D & Julian A.
  • Corona repeated his win as the Best Karaoke Howler; he was adopted by LouAnn M & Chris C.
Winners in our games were:
  • Pumpkin Dash - Scarlet & Linda S with 13 seconds to complete the course.
  • Graveyard Ghost Watch - ANOTHER TIE!! Zanie & Karen H / Diva & Ronnie C managed the longest sit/stay.

  • Bone Bob - Oreo & Diana A managed a whopping 16 bones to win.
  • Bone Pile - John C showed us all up.

Next year we hope to do even better.
For the Dals We are Thankful...

We are thankful when see a hopeless Dal's life around into one of joy for them & their new family. It isn't always an easy task for rescue. We need to give special thanks to Joyce D who has once again stepped in to help with a particularly difficult Dal.

There has been an abundance of Dals coming to rescue. Kaspar, who is deaf, came to us from Hillsborough and is HW+. He has just begun treatment. Holly came from Seminole and is also deaf. Prudence came from Chipley. She is another HW+, malnourished, horribly flea bitten Dal. And now there is 12-year-old Pongo about to join for Sandy's geriatric crew. MilkNCookies will also begin her HW treatment this month while she boards at Paw Prince. Our happiest success is that Oreo finally has his own home with our volunteer Donna, though it means her Gypsy has crossed the "bridge". Our courtesy posting for Freckles finally paid off and she has her home. Our last Dal to find a home this month was young Twiggy who found a home with Susan and her son John.
Twiggy & John
A smile, a sneeze, and a kiss were all it took to seal this deal!

Because of the number of dogs coming to rescue we have resorted to boarding a few. This is something we cannot do long-term. We desperately need a FOSTER for Diamond ... please contact us ASAP if you can foster her!

To date in 2009, we have rescued 63 new Dals/dogs beyond the 17 we began the year with to include 2 dogs returned to rescue. We have found homes for 48 dogs plus 5 direct referrals that resulted in direct adoptions. Currently, we have 27 Dals & dogs under our care. Dals that are still seeking forever homes are:

  • Eden a 9+ year old from Collier County now looking someone to call her own
  • Lady a 6-year-old formerly overweight girl needing a home where she can maintain her figure
  • Spooky a very handsome senior boy found abandoned on Halloween
  • Biff a small, but lively 8-year-old Dal-mix
  • Howie J. a returning 6-year-old Dal-mix with allergies
  • Cody a 9-year-old senior Dal from Polk County
  • McKenzie from Citrus County a young, lively, Dal/Boxer-mix
  • Amber from Lake County, a Dal/Pointer-mix who just wants a lap & to cuddle
  • Buddy a 9-year-old Dal left to die in a garage in south Florida
  • MilkNCookie from Jax is 10 years-old & about to begin HW treatment
  • Abby, a 7-year-old, very plump liver Dal-gal who needs more exercise than her family can give her
  • Apollo a 13-year-old senior from New Orleans who needs a home with no small creatures
  • Hope an enthusiastic 10-month-old Dal-mix from Lake County
  • Jemma a 5-year-old Dal-gal from Lake County who is such a good girl
  • Diamond a young Dal-mix with the cutest spot on her forehead
  • Kaspar a 5-year-old deaf boy from Tampa currently undergoing HW treatment
  • Holly a deaf 5-year-old girl in need of a family
  • Prudence a 7-year-old girl getting TLC & currently in HW treatment
  • Pongo a 12-year-old senior out of the Miami area.
We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. We also have additional courtesy posts for:
  • Finster, a Rotty-mix, who resides with Lee S. in Homosassa Springs
  • JLo, an AmStaff girl, here in the Tampa Bay area
  • Magnum a nearly 7-month-old Lab-mix near Jacksonville
PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!
