Hello Dal Lover!

So many Dals, so much needed to save them. Fundraising is key to their survival so THAT is why we put so much of ourselves into our DAL-LOWEEN event. Please come out October 17th and support DRTB... what will be fun for you, will be NEW life for a dog!

"Every dog has his day." - - - Miguel de Cervantes
On Your Mark, Get Set ... for DAL-LOWEEN!

Y'all come out & set a SPELL! Let Dal-loween and the spotted ones work their MAGIC upon you.

Costume Winner ShinerSaturday October 17th is our DAL-LOWEEN Festi-Dal & Mardi Paw Parade fundraiser at Lake Park in Lutz. It is just off N. Dale Mabry and will be held once again in the Eagle Shelter near the horse arena. Get there early to sign-up for the Mardi-Paws Parade which will begin promptly at 10 am and the fun continues till 2pm. There is a $10 entry donation for the parade, which includes beads and gets you signed-up for costume contest. Winner will receive a special prize so get creative with those costumes!

We are hoping to make this year's event an even bigger success than last year, which helped us save many dogs. Best of all, we will have spotted dogs, including adoptables, everywhere!!

CC Pumpkin PalsBumper is bringing firetrucks to mark our celebration's location and lead the parade. We will hold auctions & drawings to raise funds for all the dogs we have in our care. We are getting some great donated items. Carol Chretien has created a special painting called "Pumpkin Pals" which is a 10x10 oil on canvas featuring our favorite Dallies frolicking in the pumpkin patch, handcrafted jewelry, artwork, and dining certificates from popular restaurants like Outback & First Watch, plus the chance for tickets to area attractions. Some of our benefactors have pledged products for drawings & prizes. We are hoping to give everyone a chance at bidding and will let you know as soon as we can how to bid if you are unable to attend.

batsDal-loween paw medals are back for our game & special contest winners! We will hold a Karaoke howl contest and best trick contest for our 4-legged friends. Then we have games for you to compete with your dog such as the popcorn toss (mid-air catches), bone bob (treats in a tub), graveyard ghost watch (practice your sit-stays) & pumpkin dash. Games & contests will have a nominal fee of $1 that goes directly back to help our dogs.

Dal-loween is a group volunteer effort so we need everyone's help to get this done. We need volunteers who can continue to print & distribute flyers. We need volunteers to help us obtain more auction & raffle items. If you see a product you like then please ask the seller if they'd like to donate one for our cause. We will need volunteers to help run the event from transporting, set-up, venues, and clean-up. If you can be of any assistance please email daldogevents@msn.com.
Their Stories are Haunting!

So many faces, so many stories to go with each face. We try our best to give each a happy ending.

September saw Nala, now Lilly, off to her new home with Carolyn who is daughter of the family who adopted LouDog & Weasil in 2007. Apparently, she was convinced to get her own! Then our own Sherry M. again became a foster-flunkie ... Dooley II will have a permanent home with her family. Our urgent plea for Chance was successful, he went to live with Gary D's family in Palmetto and joins the former Depp. Little Izzy, a dinky Dal-mix pulled from Hillsborough shelter, was adopted by DRTB's multiple adopter, SeQuoia. Izzy now has a family of 4 other dogs to keep her company. We also added a care-for-life dog, a 14 year old named Van, who is being cared for by Pam & Ron I. in Spring Hill. However, Granny, another senior from south Florida didn't get her happy ending. She came to us sick and soon her organs began to shutdown. In the end Karen H. ensured that she left us with dignity and love. The last days of the month were a whirlwind of intakes with Apollo, Hope, Jemma, & Diamond.

To date in 2009, we have rescued 55 new Dals/dogs beyond the 17 we had from 2008 that include 2 dogs returned to rescue. We have found homes for 45 dogs plus 5 direct referrals that resulted in adoptions. Currently, we have 28 Dals & dogs under our care. Dals that are still seeking forever homes are:
  • Oreo a loving, yet goofy, young Dal-mix from Orange County
  • Eden a 9+ year old from Collier County now looking someone to call her own
  • Lady a 6-year-old formerly overweight girl needing a home where she can maintain her figure
  • Spooky a very handsome senior boy found abandoned on Halloween
  • Biff a small, but lively 8-year-old Dal-mix
  • Howie J. a returning 6-year-old Dal-mix with allergies
  • Cody a 9-year-old senior Dal from Polk County
  • McKenzie from Citrus County a young, lively, Dal/Boxer-mix
  • Amber from Lake County, a Dal/Pointer-mix who just wants a lap & to cuddle
  • Buddy a 9-year-old Dal left to die in a garage in south Florida
  • MilkNCookie from Jax is 10 years-old & about to begin HW treatment
  • Abby, a 7-year-old, very plump liver Dal-gal who needs more exercise than her family can give her
  • Apollo a 13-year-old senior from New Orleans who needs a home with no small creatures
  • Hope an enthusiastic 10-month-old Dal-mix from Lake County
  • Jemma a 5 year old Dal-gal from Lake County who is such a good girl
  • Diamond a young Dal-mix with the cutest spot on her forehead

We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. We also have additional courtesy posts for:
  • Finster, a Rotty-mix, who resides with Lee S. in Homosassa Springs
  • JLo, an AmStaff girl, here in the Tampa Bay area
  • Freckles 8-month-old Brittany Spaniel-mix in the Homosassa area
  • Magnum a nearly 6-month-old Lab-mix near Jacksonville
PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!
Help Dals with Sponsor-a-Pet at Petfinder!

Sponsor a Pet
"I wish I could help them all."

Do you feel that way as you browse the pet lists on Petfinder.com? You're not alone. The good news is that most of them go on to find the pet of their dreams--that perfect companion--and to provide him or her a "forever home".

But what about the pets left behind--those equally deserving companions who for some reason just weren't a good lifestyle match?

We've got good news for them, and you can help. Petfinder.com and the Petfinder.com Foundation are excited to offer a feature that allows you to sponsor a homeless pet that has touched your heart, but whom, for some reason, you can't adopt at this time.

sponsor meIt costs an average of $180 to provide care for a pet while s/he waits for a home. You can start by clicking to sponsor a pet that melts your heart on Petfinder.com! Your contribution of just $10 may enable a pet to get cared for until a new loving family comes along. They all deserve this chance!

Contributions are collected and distributed to the animal shelters or rescue organizations by the Petfinder.com Foundation and are tax deductible as the law allows. The participating shelters or rescue groups are notified of the donations received and donor contact information (only if given permission by the donor), so they can monitor which pets are "sponsored" and acknowledge the donation as well. In the event that the pet is no longer available for adoption or receives numerous sponsorships, the animal adoption organization may apply the donations to ongoing needs for the other pets currently in its care.
