DOG
Side Dal
When God made the earth and sky,
The flowers and the trees,

He then made all the animals
And all the birds and bees.

And When his work was finished
Not one was quite the same.

He said, "I'll walk this earth of mine
And give each a name."

And so he traveled land and sea
And everywhere he went

A little creature followed Him
Until its strength was spent.

When all were named upon the earth
And in the sky and sea,

The little creature said," Dear Lord,
There is not one left for me."

The Father smiled and softly said
"I've left you to the end.

I've turned my own name back to front
And call you Dog, my friend."

Hello Dal Lover!

Summertime is coming to a close with Labor Day almost upon us. For many this will be the last leisure moment before returning to work, school, or other endeavors. We hope that in these busier times that you will find a moment to come help the spotted dogs.

"If your dog doesn't like someone you probably shouldn't either." ~Unknown
Don't Forget ...
AJIt's almost Dal-loween time again! Please mark your calendars for Saturday, October 17th to join us for our annual fundraising celebration of spots. We'll be at the same place - Lake Park, 17302 N. Dale Mabry Highway in Lutz.

This year, we're going to have an exciting, fun new way to start our spotted day. Beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the front of the park, we'll be registering any and all dogs that want to join us for our Mardi Paws parade! For a $10 entry fee donation, your best friend will be entitled to some party beads and be entered automatically into our annual doggy costume contest. The top three winners will be awarded with really neat prizes.

Our parade will begin at 10a.m. sharp.....we'll be lead through the park by a big red antique firetruck....Mardi Paws style! When we reach our shelter at the back of the park, we'll have games and contests for both dogs and their humans, raffles, a silent auction, food, lots of yummy treats and more.

And there are two easy ways you can the spots:

  1. Advertise our picnic by placing flyers around town so we can get as many pooches there as possible.
  2. Ask any business/restaurant you support to donate an item for our auction.

For a flyer or donation letter please email us at daldoglady@netzero.net or you can click HERE for the flyer on our website.

So please come on out to join us. Invite your friends. Strut your spots (and non-spots) stuff, meet new and old friends, have lots of fun and help us raise money to keep on saving even more spotted lives!

URGENT Plea for Grey-Muzzle VAN

vanVAN is a 13-year-old purebred Dalmatian. Van's owner is heartbroken, but due to serious medical issues, has to find Van a new loving home. Van is a very loving and affectionate boy and is always by his owner's side. He loves treats and to be scratched under his chin. He is one of three dogs in his household, so he gets along fine with other dogs. He has also lived with cats in the past. Van has been to the vet recently and was determined to be in great health but just old in regards to some lumps and bumps and doesn't keep weight on like he used to. He still easily gets around and loves to go on walks. Van is neutered and up to date on all his shots. If you are interested in giving a Van a home to live out the rest of his life please contact Denise at (727) 804-3165. Thank you.
Our Labor Day Rewards!

Dog rescue never really takes a holiday, but it has its own rewards. We got a great surprise with our August 1 intake of a handsome senior named Cleo. Instead of becoming a foster, he became an adoption! More good news was finding out 9-year-old Buddy's tumor was benign. He can now go on to a forever home of his own. Dolly, who was found roadside in Auburndale, got her reward. It was no sooner a "Hello Dolly", and then it became "It's been Swell Dolly" as she went to her new home here in Tampa. AnnaMae, our plump Dal-gal overcame her issues to find a forever home. Kudos to fosters Jay & Karen for making her story possible. Foster Judy helped 2 dogs this month that went to homes of their own. First, 10-month-old Dane got a firefighting family complete with doggy brother. Then Keller, a deaf Dal/Retriever-mix, got her special home. Of course, there are dogs needing help & and requiring rescue's help. We have need of a foster for Abby, a very obese 5 year old female liver Dal. Her family has a severe heath crisis and can't care for her. Ms. MilkNCookie is in foster with Jay. As a ten-year-old Dal who never was on preventative, Cookie is HW+ and being evaluated for treatment options.

Rescue is never without a dog we could not help. Phoenix, sweet Dal had contracted a fatal fungal infection and, despite considerable expense trying to save her, crossed the Rainbow Bridge. A grey-muzzled Pumper also only got a short time with us, but was much loved till the end by Pam & Ron.

To date in 2009, we have rescued 47 new Dals/dogs beyond the 17 we had from 2008 that include 2 dogs returned to rescue. We have found homes for 41 dogs plus 4 direct referrals that resulted in adoptions. Currently, we have 24 Dals & dogs under our care. Dals that are still seeking forever homes are:
  • Oreo a loving, yet goofy, young Dal-mix from Orange County
  • Eden a 9+ year old from Collier County now looking someone to call her own
  • Lady a 6-year-old formerly overweight girl needing a home where she can maintain her figure
  • Spooky a very handsome senior boy found abandoned on Halloween
  • Biff a small, but lively 8-year-old Dal-mix
  • Howie J. a returning 6-year-old Dal-mix with allergies
  • Cody a 9-year-old senior Dal from Polk County
  • Dooley II is another cute young (1-2 yrs. old) Dal-mix from GA
  • McKenzie from Citrus County a young, lively, Dal/Boxer-mix
  • Amber from Lake County, a Dal/Pointer-mix who just wants a lap & to cuddle
  • Buddy a 9-year-old Dal left to die in a garage in south Florida
  • Nala a kissable 10-month-old Dal-mix also from Lake County
  • MilkNCookie from Jax is 10-years-old & HW+
  • Abby, a 5-year-old, very plump liver Dal-gal needs a foster
We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. We also have additional courtesy posts for:
  • Finster, a Rotty-mix, who resides with Lee S. in Homosassa Springs
  • JLo, an AmStaff girl, here in the Tampa Bay area
  • Callie, a Dal-mix, also in the Tampa Bay area
  • Freckles 6-month-old Brittany Spaniel-mix in the Homosassa area
  • Magnum a 5-month-old Lab-mix near Jacksonville
Muddy Magnum
But you said I could play outside, Daddy Jay...

PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!
