Can You Foster Me?
Harley is a very sweet, 8-year-old boy. He is a very good boy 95% the time, however, he is having a bit of trouble in his current foster placement at meal times. His foster has 8 other senior dogs and Harley is protective of his kibble. It has been very difficult to keep everyone segregated when food is available. He is wonderful with other dogs at any other time and was very well behaved at Get Rescued in Gulfport while looking for a new home. Of course, he didn't have to share a dinner "table" there. Could anyone out there give him a place with less competition and where he might feel less defensive about mealtime?

March bustles in on windy feet (or paws)
We daily hear the grim news of our worsening economy. Unfortunately, it has affected many pets and we hear almost every day of dogs in distress. Sadly, we can only help the ones that we can find fosters for or obtain the funding to care for their heath issues.
This past month we found homes for several of our Dals. Gracie was our first adoption. This 7-month-old was adopted by longtime DRTB supporter Chris D.. Then Poseidon found a wonderful home after a longer than expected stay in rescue. Even Precious Sr. found her new home. This is her 4th attempt at a forever home and we hope it is the best one yet. Ansel's foster family decided to make him a permanent member of their family. They join an ever-widening group of foster flunkies who have adopted DRTB dogs. Coming into rescue this month are AnnaMae, who has some expensive medical issues that must be addressed, and Cruz, a very handsome 11-year-old.
So far in 2009, we have
rescued 12 new Dals/dogs beyond those we carried over from last year.
We have found homes for 10 plus a direct referral that resulted in
an adoption. Currently, there are almost 30 Dals & dogs in our care. Dals that are still seeking forever homes are:
- Oreo a loving, yet goofy, young Dal-mix from Orange County
- Eden a 8+ year old from Collier County now looking someone to call her own
- Sister a deaf girl who recovered from starvation and awaits a home where she can be the only dog
- Spooky a very handsome senior boy found abandoned on Halloween
- Prissy renamed Missy from Valdosta who is a 5-year-old HW+ Dal now being treated
- Molly
from Brevard an 8-year-old Dal/retriever mix who loves to sleep in the bathtub
- Perkins a 6-year-old mix
from Alachua
- Sylvester (or Sly) from Putnam a 2-year-old, HW+, liver boy
- Harley a happy 8-year-old Dal-mix
- Biff
a lively 8-year-old Dal-mix
- AnnaMae a 5 year old HW+ girl with a mammary tumor
- Cruz a very handsome 11 year old boy from Brevard
We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. We also have a courtesy post for young Finster, a Rotty-mix, who resides with Lee S. in Homosassa Springs & one for JLo. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted! |
Looking Out for Others
This winter has been a harsh one for many. Bad winter storms and hard times almost left one shelter in Tennessee without food. Susan & Pat, DRTB's founders, stepped in with a check along with Kathey L., our super-supporter. Kathey managed to obtain a great deal on food from the folks at Hollywood Pet Star and then drove the over 500 pounds of food to the
Obion County animals who were without food and electricity after a terrible ice
storm in early February.
C. Davis, of the Hornbeak Fire Dept., sent a personal thank you note for
"helping to assist the animals in need during THE ICE STORM of 2009. Many
people came by to pick up a bag and also we delivered the food to those in need
with their hot meals in the evening. Thank you again for making the trip from
Memphis to help the citizens of Hornbeak and Obion County."
Isn't this what it is all about??? |
