Hello Dal Lover!

January heralded the beginning of many changes and challenges for our country. New president, worsening economy, too many becoming homeless ... dogs included. We intend to do our part with the spirit of giving back to those in need by continuing to help Dals & dogs any way we can. Charity funds are stretched, DRTB too. So when you find you may have even a little bit to spare, please, won't you think of our spotted friends?

We want to send a Thank-you out to all the volunteers that worked the PETCO Photos for Santa, we just received the proceeds that will help us provide for another dog.

""A bone to the dog is not charity. Charity is the bone shared with the dog, when you are just as hungry as the dog." - Jack London (1876 - 1916)"
Won't You Be Our Dal-entine?

Axel  Axel  Axel

Time is running short on ordering your Dal-lentines.

In an effort to support our Dals & dogs we are offering our own special Dal-entine cards featuring pictures of 13 of the dogs under our care. Each Dal-entine is a 4x6 postcard stating a donation has been made to support one of our sanctuary dogs. Above is a sample of the card styles available, too many to picture here, but we can send you them upon request. For a $5 donation per postcard (or 5 for $20) we will have them sent to you. Processing time is 4-7 business days so you must order soon. An option we are offering, for an additional $1 per postcard, is that we can have your card sent directly to your Valentine including your own special message. Orders need to be emailed to us at daldogevents@msn.com stating the cards you wish (otherwise we will select) with proof of donation (PayPal preferred) as early as possible. If you can't use PayPal, please contact us to make other arrangements

Remember, ALL profits from the card go towards the support of the dogs in our care. So on behalf of our Dals & dogs ... Thank-you & Happy Dal-entines Day!!

Our Achy Breaky Hearts

Effects of the poor economy have trickled down to us and we are now seeing many Dals and dogs land in shelters. It absolutely breaks our hearts to know we can't go help each and every one of them though we will try every resource available, including referrals, to get them to the help they need. That is one of the reasons so many URGENT emails have been sent out by us. Thankfully, so far each urgent email we've sent this year has been met by a positive response. Molly and Waldo had fosters come forward and both are currently looking for forever homes with our help. Judy F. gave up her fostering break to shelter Pixie, Dixie, & Sly (the 3 HW+ Dals from Putnam County). And Tango got his sanctuary with Carly & Brian. Of course, we now need to work on funding to keep these additional dogs healthy and in kibble.

For 2009, we have rescued 8 new Dals/dogs beyond the 13 dogs we carried over from last year. We have found homes for 7 plus a direct referral that resulted in adoption. We have also added 2 dogs as care-for-life bringing us up to 18 sanctuary dogs with possibly others joining them. Currently there are over 30 Dals & dogs in our care. Young Precious from Jacksonville is out first adoption of 2009. She has been renamed Jackson and will continue to live with Chris & Lou Anne and her new brother Corona. We expect that Jinxey's adoption in WA is permanent. Clyde also found a new home in Safety Harbor. Of the three Putnam Dals, Dixie has found a home and Pixie is now living in Orlando.

Corona with Precious

Dals that are still seeking forever homes are:
  • Oreo a loving, yet goofy, young Dal-mix from Orange County
  • Eden a 6-7 year old from Collier County now looking someone to call her own
  • Sister a deaf girl who recovered from starvation and awaits a home where she can be the only dog
  • Lady who at 6 years of age overly enjoys her kibble & everyone else's kibble
  • Poseidon a 4-5 year old handsome Dal gentleman
  • Precious (Sr) a loving 10-year-old lady now in need of another home
  • Spooky a very handsome senior boy found abandoned on Halloween
  • Prissy renamed Missy from Valdosta who is a 5-year-old HW+ Dal now being treated
  • Molly from Brevard an 8-year-old Dal/retriever mix who loves to sleep in the bathtub
  • Waldo now called Ansel who is a sweet 2 year-old also from Brevard
  • Perkins a 6-year-old mix from Alachua
  • Sylvester (or Sly) from Putnam a 2-year-old, HW+, liver boy
  • Biff a lively 8-year-old Dal-mix
prissy

We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. We also have a courtesy post for young Finster, a Rotty-mix, who resides with Lee S. in Homosassa Springs & one for JLo. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!
It Takes 3 to TANGO!

Tango & Carly with Olivia & Newton

We have great news about Tango our most recent urgent Dal. This senior boy had only hours left in a Knoxville shelter, but there were enough responses that kept him safe until our own Brian & Carly could come to his aid.

Tango finally arrived Saturday to his new home, a bit weary & confused, but alive & safe. It became immediately apparent Tango did not live the easiest life. His canines are all broken, his body is scarred, and he obviously is arthritic. Yet, despite all this, his tail continues to wag and he convinced all the Tennessee shelter workers to seek a sanctuary for him when many may have not. Tango will be considered a care-for-life Dal and as such will be supported by DRTB. We would be grateful for any donations that help keep him comfortable and in Rimadyl. We know that Carly & Brian, along with their other DRTB rescues Olivia & Newton, will make sure he gets all the extra love and support he deserves. Tango is fitting in just fine with his new family.
