From Susan to You... A Very Happy New Year To All!
Once again we have our wonderful volunteers and supporters to
thank for another successful year of saving many Dalmatians. As we head
into our 6th year as an official 501(c)(3) rescue, it is apparent that the
spots are going to need us more than ever. With the economy worsening, we
are hearing stories of shelters over-flowing. We have already taken
in some Dals who lost their families due to home foreclosures.
Rescue is not easy work nor is it inexpensive. But just one look
into the eyes of those we help keeps us going. And the stories from their new
owners who were thrilled to have them enter their lives. We are so very
fortunate to have received $30,559 in donations and grants in 2008. Our
expenses caring for the 70 Dals we took in (and the care-for-lifers) ran
close behind at $27,300. Every single dime we spend goes directly to
the care of the animals. No one in DRTB takes any compensation and many volunteer
their time, gas and own funds to care for these abandoned Dals.
We hope you will continue to join with us in 2009 to be there for the
Dalmatians waiting in shelters. Hoping that someone will love them
again. For many of them it will not be a happy new year without us. Thank
you very much for caring.

"We'll Tak a Cup O' Kindness Yet, For Auld Lang Syne"
Let not auld acquaintance be forgot nor the Dals & dogs that have have passed through DRTB this year. We have had many successes this year. For 2008, we have
rescued 65 new Dals/dogs beyond the dogs carried over from last year making a total of 72 dogs
we have worked with this year alone. We have place 53 dogs into new homes plus 4 more become care-for-life. We have high hopes of placing 2 more dogs soon.
Our final successes of 2008 were Tavish who got his new home after completing heartworm treatment with Judy F. Pepper a young Alabama Dal/Lab-mix girl found her new home after appearing at the Port Richey PETCO where she help our volunteers Sandy, Lee, Ron, & Merna do Photos with Santa. Mona, our lost Dal, was adopted by a neighbor of Sherry's after she was spotted out on her walk. Senior Harley II found a safe spot to rest with Sandy B. He joins the other seniors Val & George already at Sandy's Senior Retreat. Old boy AJ came back to DRTB, but quickly was rehomed after Dr. Hong fixed his hematoma. Sweet Bianca Rose, a Dal with only 3 paws, was adopted and is now called Winter by her new Mom. Our baby Little Spot has a found her home to grow-up in. Her new name is Angel and we hope she keeps her halo firmly in place. Of course, we still have other dogs in rescue looking for homes. Dals that are still seeking forever homes are:
- Tipper an 11-year-old lady that lost her home when her owner died
- Oreo a loving, yet goofy, young Dal-mix from Orange County
- Eden a 6-7 year old from Collier County now looking someone to call her own
- Sister a deaf girl who recovered from starvation and awaits a home where she can be the only dog
- Jinxey a Georgia rescue now on Orcas being treated for mange
- Lady who at 6 years of age overly enjoys her kibble & everyone else's kibble
- Clyde a 7-year-old surrendered sweetheart of a Dal
- Precious a young fragile girl found in Jax who is recovering with a lot of TLC from someone we hope will be a foster flunkie
- Poseidon a 4-5 year old handsome Dal gentleman
- Precious (Sr) a loving 10-year-old lady now in need of another home
- Spooky a very handsome senior boy found abandoned on Halloween
- Prissy from Valdosta who is a 5-year-old HW+ Dal
- Patches a 2 year old HW+ boy in Jacksonville
We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. We also have a courtesy post for young Finster, a Rotty-mix, who resides with Lee S. in Homosassa Springs. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted! |
