I Rescued A Human Today

Author unknown

I rescued a human today. Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering
apprehensively into the kennels.
I felt her need
instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort
her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my
corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today.

Hello Dal Lover!

Just when you think there will be a peaceful moment we go and start something new. We are hosting our first ProPlan Rescue to Rally and have invited 10+ other rescues to join us in finding homes for the holidays. Also, we are doing our first PETCO Photos with Santa, another way to raise funds for our Dals. Sometimes the best holiday present is doing something that benefits those that ask for little more than our love & attention.

We also want to send our deepest thanks to Dr. Bruce T. & to the Ahimsa Foundation for their contributions to keep us helping the dogs we love.

"In a perfect world, every dog would have a home and every home would have a dog."
Come Join our Rally to Rescue - The More The Merrier!!!

No such thing as an idle moment at DRTB. We are hosting our first Do your Own ProPlan Rally to Rescue. We are calling it The More The Merrier in an effort to get as many rescues together to find homes for the holidays for as many pets as possible. We will be holding it on December 13th at the Pinellas Park PETCO from 10a till 4p. We have already invited many local rescues to participate and have more than the required ten rescues joining us. We hope even more will join us, hence the name "The More The Merrier"! We want this to be a fun event for all while working toward our goal of finding homes for pets that don't yet have one to call their own.

ProPlan is donating t-shirts, bowls, Adopt Me scarves for the dogs, coupons, & help with advertising. PETCO has promised items to pass out to people who come to our event. We will also be running this event concurrent with the Photos for Santa program in which $5 of every picture will go back to benefit rescue. Each rescue will be putting it's best paw forward to make this fun for everyone.

For many this season's budget is leaner and because of that there are even more pets are in need. Please use your holiday spirit in ways to benefit those who need is greatest and come on out to support our Rally!
All We Want for Christmas is...

Peace on Earth good will toward man is nice, but we also want the creatures that share our lives to have the same in safe & loving homes.

We managed to find that for Pearl, a senior Dal-gal, who found her new home after we sent out an urgent plea for help. We thank everyone who responded. Perdita has gotten another chance at a home with twin boys to keep her busy, our fingers are crossed that she becomes the perfect family dog. All reports on the younger Precious are that she is doing well and getting lots of attention from Chris, Lou Anne, & Corona. We were successful in locating an adopter for Jasmine who we courtesy-posted on Petfinder. Pepper from Alabama is safe with Janet E. in Fort Walton Beach until she can be brought to Tampa to await her forever home. We are trying to find the owner's of what may be a lost Dal. This older and highly talkative girl appears well cared for, but ownerless. If no one comes forward we will seek to rehome her too. Word just came in that Nash from Jax will be joining Goku and Enki (the former Urgent Stone) and their human Walt who just had his oldest spot cross the Rainbow Bridge. We still have quite a few dogs in rescue still looking for homes.

To date this year, we have rescued 58 new Dals/dogs beyond last year's carryovers & have been able to help 46 Dals get adopted into forever homes with one pending and another with a potential home on her horizon; plus we added 3 care-for-lifers. Our current Dals seeking forever homes are:
  • Tipper an 11-year-old lady that lost her home when her owner died
  • Oreo a loving, yet goofy, young Dal-mix from Orange County
  • Eden a 6-7 year old from Collier County now looking someone to call her own
  • Sister a deaf girl who recovered from starvation and awaits a home where she can be the only dog
  • Tavish a 3-year-old from Tampa finishing HW treatment
  • Jinxey a Georgia rescue now on Orcas being treated for mange
  • Lady who at 6 years of age overly enjoys her kibble & everyone else's kibble
  • Clyde a 7-year-old surrendered sweetheart of a Dal
  • Precious a young fragile girl found in Jax who is recovering with a lot of TLC from someone we hope will be a foster flunkie
  • Poseidon a 4-5 years old handsome Dal
  • Precious (Sr) a loving 10-year-old lady now in need of another home
  • Spooky a very handsome senior boy found abandoned on Halloween
  • Pepper a young Alabama Dal/Lab-mix girl
We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. We also have a courtesy post for young Finster, a Rotty-mix, who resides with Lee S. in Homosassa Springs. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!
Holiday Greetings To Everyone!

Susan & the Xmas Dals

It's hard to believe that it's been a little over five years since DRTB became an official 501(c)(3) rescue organization. Because of your generous support, dedication and caring, we are still around and able to continue saving many abandoned and abused Dalmatians and Dal mixes from kill shelters. Thanks to you, they now live happy and cruelty free lives in loving homes. This year we have been able to save over 65 more beautiful spots, a lot of who were found in bad shape. What a joy it is to see them with their bellies full and coats shining again and to hear from their adopters how much joy they have brought into their lives.

We know tough times are ahead for everyone. Shelters are more crowded than ever and numerous dogs are being tossed onto the streets. But with your help, we will continue to rescue as many innocent dogs as we can.

We can't tell you enough how very, very grateful we are for you as you make it all possible. Have a wonderful holiday season and know that you have made a difference for an animal that had no choice.

Susan Weber, Founder

P.S.  As sometimes seen on TV, we thought we'd share a "behind the scenes photo". It was not easy getting these three sanctuary dogs to pose. Bailey wanted to run, Putnam wanted to keep smelling Egor, and Egor couldn't figure out which way to face toward the camera! Co-founder Patrick was the patient photographer who sends his Happy Hugs too!
