DalmatiAn
poem
O to live with a
Dalmatian, how much fun, O to watch him run and run ... and
run, O to see him playing in the sun, O
the trouble he gets in ... and then
some! O the chewed corners in every
room, O I remember when new teeth
loomed! O nothing was safe - old or
new, O when he wanted, he would chew ... and
chew!! O he is older now and still a
clown, O nothing seems to get him
down, O he's always smiling, never a
frown, O he's just great fun to be
around. O look at his coat and how
striking he is, O his lovely dark spots that no-one could
miss, O for a whiter coat, he could not
wish. O such melting eyes, full of
promise.
O and whilst I write about all these 'O'
s, I must stress the spelling, I
suppose, Dals are crammed with character, but I must
mention ...
There are 'A' s but no 'O' s in a
DalmatiAn!!

Hello Dal Lover!
Our Dal-loween Festi-Dal is almost here! This is our primary fundraiser of the year. Fundraising is an absolute necessity since so many Dals come to us with additional & expensive medical needs. We have a lot planned to make this year's event fun for everyone so please keep reading. We are looking forward to seeing you, our supporters, & some of our "happy tails" once again!
"Dogs are our link to
paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on
a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing
was not boring, it was peace." --Milan Kundera

Come to Our Dal-loween Festi-Dal! Come one & come all!
Our Dal-loween Festi-Dal fundraiser is on Saturday October 18th at Lake Park just off N. Dale Mabry in Lutz in the Eagle Shelter. It will
again be held from 10-2p. We are hoping to make this year's event an even bigger success than last year's event that helped us save many dogs. Best of all, we will
have spotted dogs, including adoptables, everywhere!!
For this year we have Bumper's firetruck to
mark our celebration's location. We will hold auctions & raffles to
raise some much-needed funds. Some items donated
are a Carol Chretien commissioned portrait, designer jewelry, artwork,
and dining certificates from popular restaurants like Outback & First Watch. Some of our
benefactors have pledged products for raffles &
prizes. Rally to Rescue has provided us with reflective collars & wristbands and we are still working on more "treats" to make this event the
best yet.
Dal-loween paw medals are back for our winners! We will hold a pet costume contest, karaoke howl contest, and best trick contest for our 4-legged friends. We have a bone piling contest & guess the number of treats for our human friends. Plus we have games for you to compete with your dog such as the popcorn toss, bone bob, & pumpkin dash. Some games & contests will have a nominal fee of $1 that goes directly back to help our dogs.
We also have some local vendors supporting our event. Josh's
Firehouse Treats will be there with yummy treats for our dogs & Pampered Paws Gifts has committed a beautiful gift basket, both are great stops to do some holiday shopping. Pupperazi, who make some beautiful custom collars, is also adding their support. Just so pet parents won't feel unrewarded; we plan to have
human treats available too.
Dal-loween is a group
volunteer effort so we need everyone's help to get this done. We need
volunteers who can continue to print & distribute flyers. We need volunteers to help us
obtain more auction & raffle items. If you see a product you like then please ask the seller if they'd like to donate one for our cause. We will need volunteers to help run the event from transporting, set-up, venues, and clean-up. If
you can be of any assistance please email daldogevents@msn.com. |
There's Nothing Spooky about Our Dals!
We are haunted by the dogs we couldn't save, but there's nothing spooky about the ones we did help.
Ten-week-old Mia quickly found
her home with a past DRTB adopter after stealing hearts everywhere she went. Clyde came to us
for help when his owner felt she could no longer give him the care he deserves.
Ten-year-old Oscar came to our attention because his time is rapidly
running out in his current home, he has only till the end of this month. The sadly abused & scarred Val
found sanctuary with Sandy B. where she will never ever be mistreated again.
Our real trick or treat has been the non-Dal, Georgia trio of Venus,
Sweetie, & Jinxey who Susan W. flew to our Orcas sanctuary. Venus
& Sweetie have both found their new home while Jinxey rehabs. Sneaking too many goodies
& treats prompted Lady's owner to seek our help in finding a suitable home where
she could regain her trim Dal-figure. Shockingly, or
maybe not, the very handsome, three-year-old Nash (pictured below) needed rescue from a Jacksonville shelter. He is HW+ and foster
Jay will see him through treatment. Lastly, Buddy is returning to rescue after the adopter's homeowner's association decided to strictly enforce its pet rules.
More Dals who will be spending Dal-loween in new homes are Tasha adopted by Amelia & Sebring (now Bentley) who Alison B. adopted. Poseidon went to a new home in Jacksonville. Eleanor, the former Perdita, found her new home with Colleen after appearing at Paws in the Park. We are so happy for them all.
To date this year, we have rescued 53 new Dals/dogs beyond last year's carryovers
& have been able to help 37 Dals get adopted into forever homes;
plus we added 2 care-for-lifers & have 1 pending adoption. Our current
Dals seeking forever homes are:
- Tipper an
11-year-old lady that lost her home when her owner died
- Oreo a loving, yet
goofy, young Dal-mix from Orange County
- Eden from Collier
County halfway through heartworm treatment
- Sister a deaf girl who recovered from starvation and awaits a home where she can be the
only dog
- Halley a 2-3 years
old female Dal/Dachs-mix from Bainbridge Shelter
- Tavish a 3-year-old, HW+ from Tampa awaiting treatment
- Oscar a 10-year-old senior who is losing his home
- Jinxey a Georgia rescue now on Orcas being treated for mange
- Lady who at 6 years of age overly enjoys her kibble & everyone else's kibble
- Nash from Jax, a very handsome 3-year-old, but HW+
- Clyde a 7-year-old surrendered sweetheart of a Dal
- Buddy (rescued with Sister) a loving 7-year-old boy now needing a home again
We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. We also
have a courtesy post for youngster Finster, a Rotty-mix, who resides
with Lee S. in Homosassa Springs. PLEASE let us know if you can help these
dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get
adopted! |
