"I am involved in dog rescue: my wallet and gas tank are always running on empty, my house is never quiet and free of dog hair, nor is my car, my inbox is full of ongoing despair and misery, but my heart and soul are replenished with unconditional love, loyalty, and joy that can only come from a rescued dog!" ~ Author Unknown

Hello Dal Lover!
"Do what you love and the money will follow."
These well known words of advice for people searching for their heart's passion always come to mind when I think of our very own DRTB. In our case, the money isn't going to us personally. Even better, it goes to help the spotted dogs that we all love so dearly. Every time we think we won't have the funds to continue our rescues, another angel shows up.
We THANK each and every one of you who help and wish to share some of the latest stories of your generosity. You are all the everyday heroes out there!
"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." ~ Author Unknown

Memories Precious as Diamonds
We all have treasured memories of special animals and people who have shared our life. We often seek ways to let others know how much we miss them. This month we have received some special donations in tribute of those that have recently crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Kathey L. in Tennessee sought a tribute that would not only honor the life of Savannah, a Dal that had been discarded when her breeding days were over, but also to help other Dals like her. Kathey stepped in to save Savannah's life shortly after her beloved Dal-girl Blaze passed; they soon became each other's lifeline. Savannah's life didn't always run smoothly, but Kathey stuck by her through it all, including diabetes & cataract surgery to correct the resulting blindness. Kathey donated her beautiful diamond tennis bracelet in tribute of Savannah so we could continue to save other Dals like Savannah who would have no chance, but for a rescuer to intervene. Her donation will greatly help the Dals of DRTB, many of who are abandoned without hope until DRTB steps in. I know that both Savannah and Blaze found their angel in Kathey as well as the Dals we can help with this generous donation.
Our other tribute this month comes from Lauren E. in Maine who wanted to honor the life of her dog-loving friend MC McAuley pictured left. MC loved dogs of all shapes and sizes. For nearly 15 years MC had a dog sitting business at her home that she renovated for the safety and care of the dogs. She loved to pamper her canine "guests" as they were called. One of her favorite guests was a big Dalmatian, so to celebrate her memory Lauren sent a donation for our dogs to be used for some very special foods & treats for a celebration which she knows MC would have loved. What a lovely way to celebrate MC's memory.

Destination Dalmatian!

As fast as they are coming in to our rescue we've managed to be successful in finding new homes for quite a few of our Dals. Lady Girl, Pink to some, is now in her Tampa area forever home and a recovered Pongo has also found a wonderful home here in Tampa. Molly Brown, a shy Dal from Tallahassee, found her champion who will give her a well deserved home. Then our special Harley got adopted this past month too. We have great news about our urgent Dal Spot who just arrived at his new home after such a long stressful wait. Of course, for every Dal that goes to a home it seems two or three new Dals come to fill their place. Poseidon, aka "Po", has come into rescue, along with another care-for-life senior "George" who is now residing with Sandy B.. Lastly, this week we have just added Haylee, Perdita, Orie, & Spot to the DRTB roster of adoptable Dals!
So far this year, we have rescued 40 new Dals & been able to help 31 Dals get adopted into forever homes; plus we added 2 care-for-lifers & have 1 pending adoption. Our current Dals seeking forever homes are:
- Tipper an 11-year-old lady that lost her home when her owner died
- Oreo a loving, yet goofy young Dal-mix from Orange County
- Eden from Collier County beginning heartworm treatment soon
- Sister who is regaining weight and health before going to a home where she can be the only dog
- Tasha who is also undergoing heartworm treatment
- Sebring (from where else, but Sebring) who is a young, loving Dal-mix
- Poseidon a deaf, very handsome boy from Clay County
- Haylee a 2-3 year old female mix from Bainbridge Shelter
- Perdita a 1-year-old Dal-mix from Gainesville
- Orie & Spot, two St. Augustine Dals whose owner chose the seminary instead
We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. We also have a courtesy post for youngster Finster, a Rotty-mix, who resides with Lee S. in Homosassa Springs. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted! |
Meet Our Super-Foster Karen H!
We would like you to meet an extraordinary lady who has helped our Dals many times. Karen H. selflessly donates her time, money, and most of all her heart each and every day to help save the dogs of DRTB. She cares for up to 4-5 foster dogs in addition to her own crew of four Dals and never complains. Her full-time job as a UF cardiologist & professor has her more than busy, plus she also trains her dogs to compete in agility trials. Yet somewhere in this hectic schedule she finds time when she returns home to walk and treat both healthy & sick/injured Dals! Karen has been a multiple foster home for over two years now; she never says no to a Dal in need. Everyone who has met Karen has nothing, but the best to say about her. We received this comment from a recent adopter, "Karen H. is such an amazing woman; she is a great asset to the Tampa Bay Dalmatian Rescue as well. She and all of you will always have a special place in my, Dottie's, and Spot's heart." Karen is leaving a legacy of many saved, happy spots and delighted new owners in her trail. Her karma basket is overflowing. Many, many, many thanks from all of us! We are honored and privileged to have your help. |
