Our Saddest Spots
They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words. To us, these photos are worth 1,000 tears. Cruelty cases like these are a large part of why we continue to ask for your help, we don't want to ever have to say no to them.
"Sister" and "Buddy" are posted on our website, but the full impact of their damage can be seen in these photos taken by Foster Mom Janet on their first day of safety. Sister was only 30 pounds and falling down from weakness. Janet described her as almost transparent, as badly starved as our miracle Dal named Hope. She was only a few short weeks away from death by starvation. Buddy, obviously fed a little more, was ravaged by fleas and ticks until his skin was raw.
We can't turn our backs on dogs that have been through this. Their vet bill alone was $350, not including the food and vitamins we got for them. Thanks to donations from England's Aimee and Lauren in Maine, one-third of the bill has been paid. However, the vet bill is only the beginning. Lots of time and care will be needed for Sister to help her become well.
We don't like to beg, but it's what we have to do to show these Dals that there are people out there who care & will give them the love they deserve. Buddy was just adopted into his new home in Cape Coral, but Sister will have to wait a bit longer and needs a home where she can be the only dog. Please consider a donation to help us continue to make their lives better. |
You Shall Bring Two of Every Kind...

It seems we are becoming a Dalmatian version of Noah's Ark. Not only have we saved Sister & Buddy, but our founder on Orcas Island has come to the rescue of Stevie & Nick. Now what do you think prompted those names? Both Dals had been dumped off like garbage at a Waste Management site. Fortunately, they have found their new home together and we couldn't be happier for them. We have also rescued Stone, our urgent Dal from Melbourne, who just got his new home with our volunteer Walt.
Other dogs finding homes this month are now HW negative Drago who immediately blocked with urate stones. A few generous donations from Joyce D. & Karen H. to pay for $3000 replumbing surgery has saved him once again. Bouncy Patches also found her new home with the Henderson's. Buddy from FWB has found a home just to the south of us in Cape Coral. We also helped to place Pierce into his home this month. Lastly, Lady Girl seems to have a home on her horizon. You can see it has been a very busy month!
So far this year we have rescued 32 new Dals & been able to help 26 Dals get adopted into forever homes with 1 pending. Our current Dals seeking forever homes are:
- Sadie who has returned to DRTB due to family medical issues
- Tipper an 11-year-old lady that lost her home when her owner died
- Harley a Levy County Dal-mix boy with dysplasia in his right hip
- Oreo a loving, yet goofy young Dal-mix form Orange County
- Pongo from Clay County who almost through his heartworm treatment
- Eden from Collier County who requires heartworm treatment soon.... we need a foster for her treatment!
- Sister who needs to regain her health before going to a home where she can be the only dog
- Tasha who we just discovered to be a much older, heartworm positive, owner surrender
- Sebring (from where else, but Sebring) is a young Dal-mix & is our newest rescue.
All our dogs that are adoption ready are listed on www.Petfinder.com. We also have a courtesy post for youngster Finster, a Rotty-mix, who resides with Lee Sears. PLEASE let us know if you can help this dog with a loving home or getting him to events so that he might get adopted! |
