Happy "Tails" for some of DRTB's Dals
We have been busy! So far this year Dalmatian Rescue of Tampa Bay has rescued 16 new Dals & been able to help 13 Dals get adopted into forever homes since the beginning of 2008.
Orphan, now called Scamp, was rescued in 2007 and was the first to go to his new home. Leyna & Baylis of Ft. Walton Beach soon followed his lead. DRTB then assisted getting Kumba & a Jacksonville stray named Sadie to safe homes.
Snoopy, a stray Dal found running loose in Tampa, went to foster with a DRTB volunteer after heartworm treatment. He has made himself at home with 2 sister Dals who keep him humble.
DRTB stepped in to help re-home a small Dal-mix named Leila who was reported as neglected. Leila, re-named Lilly, found her new home in the Gainesville area with a wonderful family with children. She lives close enough to visit her godmother Karen Hamilton who came to her rescue.
DRTB saved a Dal-mix pup with really big feet from Putnam County. He was named Duke and was soon adopted into a family with 2 other dogs. Soon after, Cara was rescued from the Land O' Lakes shelter. Her forever home is in Apollo Beach
DeeDog, a 13 year old Dalmatian from Albany, GA, lost her home after her owner was murdered & ended up in a kill shelter. Karen H. said, "how can we leave her there," knowing she had no chance at the shelter. So DRTB got to work and found a wonderful home in Valrico who decided she was the Dal for them. DeeDog will get to spend the rest of her life in a loving home as her previous owner intended.
Molly, just found her forever home near Ft. Lauderdale & will be treated for cherry eye soon. Little Zoey Lou a pretty liver spotted Dal baby was quickly rehomed to a family in Valrico. Domino in a Brevard County shelter found safety in a new home near Melbourne.
Other Dals seeking homes are Drago from Polk County who is almost through his heartworm treatment, "The Queen" from Atlanta who is healing after facial surgery, Patches a Dal-mix from Levy County just recovered from kennel cough, Sadie who has returned to DRTB, and Lady Girl who still needs to begin heartworm treatment. |
Foster Dal Families Desperately Needed
Dalmatian Rescue of Tampa Bay is in desperate need of families able to foster a dog. Currently we have no foster homes in the Tampa Bay area where we can house dogs pulled from shelters. Having foster homes buys time for the dogs saved from shelter to find safe, loving homes and having homes in the Tampa Bay area allows DRTB to take the Dals to events where they can be seen by prospective adopters.
DRTB needs fosters of all kinds: emergency, short-term, long-term & medical. Of the Dals DRTB saves, 20-25% require heartworm treatment & others need spay/neuter or may have kennel cough. We know not everyone can do everything, but maybe you can do something to help. Parting can be sad, but also very rewarding. You make a difference in that dog's life by giving them a chance to gain the home they deserve. To become a foster contact DRTB at 727-787-1760. |
DRTB on the Road!
DRTB volunteers have been hitting the road & working events to make good things happen for our Dals. January began with a few PETCO appearances, but February additionally brought us the Bowser Games at Highlander Park in Dunedin. This is a wonderful event to attend with lots to do for both you and your dog. Little Duke appeared for a meet & greet just before being whisked off to his new forever home.
March
was a very busy event month. It started off with a bang at Get Rescued in
Gulfport. It was a great fundraising event for our Dals and our thanks
go to our volunteers for working that long day. We raised enough money at that event to get a dog through heartworm treatment so we will return next year. We also went to Suncoast Animal League's FIX Mutt March and that same weekend appeared at the Bay Area Renaissance
Festival's first annual Pet Fest at MOSI. The Pet Fest was another awesome pet event that ran the entire Easter weekend. It was great fun to see all the period costumes & dogs, such a fun way to spend the day with your pet. We had a booth at the Museum for Mutts
Fandango held at the North
Pinellas Historical Museum. This a a new event that is trying hard to get some recognition and we'd like to help that happen.
More events are scheduled & our volunteers are getting ready to roll again. It's all in effort to find more ways to save Dals at risk. We really hope to see
you at one of our events soon!
