 | "It may be a man's world, but it's a woman's Universe!" --Ravi Singh |
Dear Yoga Friends,
Happy Mid-Oct.! This is the women's issue, part two featuring 10 More Things Every Woman Needs to Know (see below). Venus, relating to love and beauty is
currently in retro- grade. That means things which have been swept under the carpet in rela- tionships will be revealed in stark clarity. It's a time of assessment though, not a time to make rash decisions. Venus goes direct November 18th. That is the time to implement whatever you decide, not now! Also (according to astrology) while Venus is in retrograde, avoid unnecessary expenditures on beauty products and home improvement!

10 More Things Every Woman Should Know
Spirit
1. To inspire people and be succesful in your life, speak primarily from the 6th & 4th chakras. When you speak, create music. Penetrate to the psyche of the other person and uplift them. Wise women speak from the 3rd eye. The 4th Chakra is the language of hope, healing, and the Human Spirit.
2. There are two types of people. Those who look forward and those who look back. No one's childhood was perfect. Success lies in your ability to let go of the past and transcend the concept that your experiences have handicapped you.
3. According to yogic writings, there are three personas which a successful woman alternates between: Sadhanee: The self-disciplined one, focused and fearless. Yogini: Embodies kindness, compassion, flexibility, and grace. Parbhati: Your radiance reflects the whole Universe.
4. As a woman you embody powerful energies. the secret to accessing this power is simply being yourself and acknowledging the Creative Feminine in you!
Health & Beauty
5. If we were to cite one supplement that could make the biggest difference overall for women, it would be probiotics. Vegans will be glad to know that this supplement is said to help the body manufacture its own B12! In addition, probiotics help the digestive and elimination systems as well as the immune system. Most importantly it keeps candida at bay, and, hence, contiributes to a clear even skin tone (gets the red out). Open a couple capsules into your morning smoothie and get the glow!
6. Many women fear menopause and think that it represents a precipitous drop in hormones, etc. The facts are, the decline in hormones is actually pretty gradual and if you have been doing your Kundalini Yoga and living a healthy lifestyle, you may barely notice a thing. You may even see skin and mood improvements! You will see this time not as the end of anything but as an exciting new beginning!! Try Fat Free Yoga to keep your glands happy!
7. Do you know about the Magnificent Seven, exercises which are great for a woman to do every day? They are Bow Pose, Shoulderstand, Rock Pose, Camel Pose, Sat Kriya, Locust Pose, Stretch Pose. These (plus much more) are all on our Yoga Beauty Body DVD.
Relationship
8. Men can change, if you can change.
9. It is important to consciously assess when to try harder and when to walk away. There's a huge difference between "keeping up," and being in a rut. How to gain the overview to know the difference. Answer: Meditative Mind.
10. There is a huge difference between being in your power and trying to control events. You may often find that the more you try to control, the more things spin out of control. Live and let love!

Questions of the Month
Weight Loss Journey
Hello! It's been a while since I've written, so I'll just jump right in. About a year or so ago I set out to lose weight and began working out with all of your DVDs. Well, I'm excited to say I've lost more than 30 pounds, have 15 to go, and workout six days week. I'm absolutely addicted to it! If it had not been for your DVDs, I would never have started this journey. So, here is my question. I am tall (5-9) and slightly built, but have lots of fat still on my lower body, mainly my legs; however, under the fat is nicely toned muscle. I am adding cardio to my routine, mainly walking or dance-based workouts (I love DVD fitness!). How often would you recommend cardio and how often your workouts? Which of your DVDs? What type of rotation do you think would be more beneficial? I consider myself fairly advanced and usually do 60-90 minute workouts daily. Again, thank you sooo much for everything. You are both such inspirations! Namaste.
Thanks for writing and congratulations on being proactive with your Kundalini Yoga practice! The best workouts to achieve your goals are (in this order): Fat Free Yoga, Yoga Cleanse, Warrior Workout, Navel Power, Kundalini Yoga Cardio: Stretch & Strengthen, Dance the Chakras Yoga Workout, and Yoga Total Tune Up (a pretty quaint production filmed in 2003!, but it has a very good metabolism boosting as well as fat burning workout)! Most of these have a cardio element although a brisk walk before your yoga practice will enhance the process. You can do these in any order as a weekly rotation, one or two DVD workouts per day. We suggest a raw protein smoothie for breakfast (Sun Warrior is a great protein powder) and a salad for dinner with hemp and avocado for protein and healthy fats. Low salt olives, salsa. (infinite variety of things to make a salad interesting.) Overall, weight in the lower body is a result of a liver issue and/or energy not flowing in the lower chakras. We highly recommend the So Darshan Chakra Kriya Meditation which is taught on Yoga Bliss Hips, Yoga Quick Fixes, and Yoga House Call. You can also read about it under "S" on the A-Z Health Archive on raviana.com. Please keep us posted. We wish you joy, health, and blessngs!
Early Morning Practice
I have been hearing about Sadhana a lot lately so I have decided to do one. I was thinking about raising at 5 am and using your Kundalini yoga for Beginners and Beyond DVD and then finishing with a mediation from your mediation DVD. Is 10 min ok for meditation?. I was also thinking about practising a mantra after my mediation too. Do I have to practise the same in the evening or can I do a different DVD? Does it matter that I have to change the DVD to do the mediation? For some reason I think my practise isn't good enough if I have to change DVDs. Thank you Raviana. BLESSINGS to you both.
Congratulations on your interest in doing Sadhana! Getting up at 5 a.m. and doing Kundalini Yoga / Meditation will accelerate your inner growth and brings blessings into your life and the lives of everyone in your sphere. Kundalini yoga for Beginners and Beyond plus a meditation is a great plan. We suggest that you do a meditation from any of our DVD's for 22 min. and do a mantra for 5 - 11 min. It is perfectly okay to use different DVD's in the same workout. Fat Free Yoga and Navel Power, are great to include in your workouts once a week. Please keep us posted. We wish you joy, health, and many blessings!

Meditation of the Month
Dhristi Kriya - (taught by Yogi Bhajan on Ana's birthday July 22nd (1992))
Dhristi relates to meditations which involve gazing, or focus of the eyes. If you master this you can restore life and hope to whomever you gaze upon.
1. Have your hands (index fingers and thumbtips meeting) at shoulder level, as if you're taking a double oath. Breath of Fire through a rounded mouth. 1 - 3 min. 2. Relax the breath. Look at the tip of the nose through closed eyes. 3 min. 3. Imagine that your head is a rose. Smell the rose. Time open. 4. Turn your head into pure light and merge with that light. Time open.
Part 1 stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, our ability to experience vastness and to maintain an overview and keep a clear vision or our lives in a greater context. Parts 2, 3, and 4 develop what Yogi Bhajan called the sensory system of the brain, corresponding to the frontal lobe, which helps us to imagine what's possible and organize time and space in accordance with our projection. It's called 'making the fantasy real.' On the Spiritual Path, the ability to invoke subtle realities is grounds for Mastery.
