How to Be

What's your style? How do you define yourself? In what decade did you "lock in?" Are you not sure what constitutes fulfillment for you? What are your goals? How well are you getting your needs met? What do you need? What do you want? What does the Universe want for you? What inspires you? Are you successful? Do you feel successful? What will your legacy be?

We know that so far this all sounds sort of like a classified ad in the back of Fate Magazine and that we would be glib if we implied that there is an easy answer to all of this, but there is a simple means, uncannilly accurate, by which you can help yourself find the common denominator to all of these questions and participate in life with greater clarity and focus.

The answer to all of the above is to express your soul. We know people who have the soul of a warrior but continually take the path of least resistance. Or the soul of a poet who sit in a cubicle all day crunching numbers. Life doesn't quite make sense unless we express our souls. When we're feeling happy, most alive, completely validated, and "on;" our souls are shining through. Our soul can be defined as what's authentic and special about us. When we relate to our souls we become surprisingly happy. When we are truly at our best, feeling unshakable, unstoppable, and on top of the world, our souls are present. Listen to a guitar solo by Stevie Ray Vaughn or look at a painting by Van Gogh and you'll see the soul in evidence.

Your Soul Number

There is a simple calculation in the system called Tantric Numerology, which is part of the teachings of Kundalini Yoga. Your Soul Number is calculated using the number of the day you were born. If you were born on the 3rd of the month then your Soul Number is 3, on the 14th, your Soul Number is 5 (4 +1) on the 29th, your Soul Number is 11 (2 + 9). Please note that 11 stays 11, and 10 stays 10. Otherwise, distill each number down to 1 digit.

So, what does each number mean?

1. If your Soul Number is a 1 what makes you happy is doing things your way. 1 people are innovators, artists, and visionaries. They dance to the beat of a different drummer and don't look back. If you're a 1 be one of a kind!

2. If your Soul Number is a 2 what makes you happy is pure devotion. Keep your antenna up though! You're wide open and want to connect. You're great in partnership. Maintain critical thinking.

3. If your Soul Number is a 3, what makes you happy is creative expression and making other people happy. Giving other people hope gives you hope. Don't brood. Have fun with everything you do.

Recap: Negative: Depressed. Positive: Light and Bright. Expansive and giving.

4. If your Soul Number is a 4, what makes you happy is being the ecstatic witness to the play of life. A 4's redemption is love. Come from your heart not your head. Love as its own reward as a way of life.

5. If your Soul Number is a 5, what makes you happy is movement, physical activity and teaching. The phrase for 5 is balance. Learn how not to go to extremes.

Recap: Negative: Lazy and indulgent. Positive: Athletic. Teaching by example.

6. If your Soul Number is a 6, what makes you happy is prayer and staying focused. The phrase for 6 is Person at Prayer. When you learn to focus your thoughts the power of your mind can create any reality.
