Hi everyone! This is Ana Brett & Ravi Singh's October Yoga news. As we are finishing our current projects we are looking ahead to getting back on the the road to teach more classes/workshops! Thanks to Lynne Green and all of you who attended our workshop and shared your amazing energy with us at Simply Yoga in East Winsdor, CT. Sept. 12th.
Its the countdown to Memphis! Only 3 more day! We're looking forward to meeting many of you at Give Yoga in Memphis this weekend. Saturday is sold out, but there's (literally) two more spaces open for the Sunday session (if you're interested call 901.846.5070).
We'll also be teaching in Hamden, CT on October 17th at Your Community Yoga Center. Our last CT class sold out fast! If you would like to attend, call soon to reserve your place.

Top 10 Tips on the Spiritual PathOnce, when the Buddha passed through the city
of Kalama, in India, he was asked, "So many spiritual teachers pass through here and provide teachings for us. However, each of them seems to spend most of their time refuting the ideas of the previous speaker. How does one separate what's true from what's false? All of these teachings seem good. How do we know whom to follow and what to believe?"
Buddha then gave the so-called Kalama Discourse*
and expounded on a mode of critical thinking which one should adapt with regard to spiritual teachings.
The Buddha said: Do not believe a spiritual teaching just because:
1. it is repeatedly recited, 2. it is written in a scripture, 3. it was handed down from ancient times, 4. everyone around you believes it, 5. it is taught by someone who seems to have supernatural or mystical powers, 6. it is what you already have decided you believe, 7. it sounds rational 8. it is taught by a person with a large following, 9. the person teaching it declares that it is the Truth,
10. you are forced to defend the validity of that teaching.
Buddha went on to say that we should only accept a teaching when it resonates with our experience,
reason, and heart, and is conducive to the upliftment of all beings, and provides an undeniable experience of our True Self. Only then, he said, should one continue to practice and live up to a spiritual teaching. Let your heart and soul be the touchstone on which you assess the value of a philosophy and spiritual practice. What's right for you may not be right for someone else. If you feel that something has value embrace it and share it with anyone who seems interested. A Spiritual Path is much like a relationship. It may or may not be what you thought you were looking for but you know it was meant to be. *thanks to Charlene for helping us locate this.

Fat Free Yoga & Yoga Cleanse
I just bought your Fat free yoga and yoga cleanse dvds. could you please provide
some tips on how I could use both for maximum benefit? Thanks for writing. The best way to use Fat Free Yoga and Yoga Cleanse would be to practice Fat Free Yoga five days per week and Yoga Cleanse twice. If you are in de-tox mode, or feel that you need to de-tox, then it would be good to do Yoga Cleanse every other day. Yoga Cleanse features two sets which are very effective liver detoxifiers. The liver is responsble for filtering impurities, as well as hormones and viruses viruses, from our bloodstream. It also synthesizes a carbohydrate called glycogen which is the only form of nutrient our brains can accept! That's why when our livers are overtaxed or toxic one's thinking gets foggy. Also, when the liver is overtaxed we tend to gain weight more readily. For that reason we have included Yoga Cleanse in our Fat Free Yoga series. Fat Free Yoga focuses on many other important multi-dimensional aspects of weight loss. These include: hormonal balance, emotional clearing, metabolic stimulation, improved circulation, ab toning, and working through energy blocks. It's a comprehensive, but very doable physical workout. Where to Begin
I'm sort of fed up with certain things in my life and I need to put the brakes on and start a more positive lifestle. From everything I've read and heard about, I'm convinced that Kundalini Yoga would be good for me but I don't know where to begin. Every time I'm about to try yoga part of me feels massive resistance and I always find a way to put it off. How do you think I should get started.
Thanks for writing. When attempting positive change, it sometimes is necessary to take baby steps before we can try to start running. We suggest that you try the first set of Kundalini Yoga for Beginners & Beyond sitting on the edge of a sofa. That way you can tell the part of you that is resisting that you can do yoga and still be a couch potato! We also suggest Navel Power. A strong Navel Chakra will help you turn the tide to bring about personal change. It will also help you to sustain your intention to embrace a more positive lifestyle. Everything has its polarity, so be assured that the more resistant you are now, the more disciplined you will be later. This is a function of the first chakra which gets deeply entrenched in things (and also becomes threatened when the status quo is interrupted). When beginning to experience the benefits of Kundalini Yoga, and a positive lifestyle, the breakthroughs in your life will happen more readily and become much easier.
Calves & Negativity
I
have a few questions. I find that when I do the shoulder stand my lower
legs (calf area) start to burn. What does this mean? Also, I'm about to
start a job in which I interact with the public and as you may know, the
interactions are not always positive. What can I do to protect myself from
negativity? Thank you.
The calves relate to the adrenals and we suspect that Shoulderstand
is helping to open your solar plexus, allowing your adrenals to regenerate.
So, what you are experiencing is a good thing! When you're in Shoulderstand,
be sure that you're not gripping in the calves. Feel a lift emanating from
your sitting bones and press out through your heels. Let the energy extend
through the balls of your feet.
Kundalini Yoga has many technqiues to protect one from negativity. The
two most important and powerful approaches are: working the Navel Chakra,
and strengthening the Magnetic Field. Before work (you can even do it standing),
raise your arms out to the sides and up to a 60 degree angle, fingers curled
in against the mounds, thumbs up. Do the Breath of Fire for 1 - 3 min.
As you do the Breath of Fire feel the space around your body brightening
as you breathe. Also, smile into the space around your body. To end, inhale
hold the breath and slowly bring your thumbs towards one another. Let them
meet, relax the breath and let your arms arc down to the sides, describing
a rainbow of radiance around you. You might also try the morning set on Am/Pm Yoga It features a continuous Breath of Fire sequence which will boost your magnetic field. Also, the Morning Meditation on that DVD will make you super positive and a natural healer.
The best way to work the Navel Chakra is
the Navel Power DVD. There are also Navel Chakra exercises on all of our
DVD's. The Navel Chakra engenders patience and personal power. It gives you the strength to transform negativty from within. The Magnetic
Field refutes or transforms any negativity from outside of you.

Meditation of the Month
Meditation to Clear the Psyche
"There are two ways to be the light: become the candle or the mirror which reflects it."
It's
fall, so get up and keep up with this powerful meditation! The change
of season is a good time to do some inner house cleaning. When we clear out the old we make room for the new. The Universe thrives on change. Change your state and be great!
Interlace your hands over your solar plexus. Close your eyes. Begin powerful breathing, in and out through puckered lips for 1 - 3 min. (only!). Now inhale deeply through nose. Focus up and in towards the brow and visualize a candle flame and see the flame getting bigger and brighter as it consumes anger, sadness, grief, fear, and every form of negativity from your mind. After about 15 seconds exhale. Then inhale and repeat the visualization twice more. Then meditate in silence and be the light. |
