Hi everyone! This is Ana Brett & Ravi Singh's August news. For those of you who may be new to this newsletter, we teach Kundalini Yoga with an emphasis on form and alignment, core strengthening, heart opening, sound and vibratory effect, science of sequence, and most importantly, inspiring people to let Spirit inform their lives by expressing their creative and healing gifts.

4. A very dedicated yoga practitioner heard about a Spiritual Teacher in the Himalayas who was said to know the ultimate meaning of life. The yogi spent about a year saving enough money and planning his trip. Finally he was able to fly to Nepal and hire some guides to lead him up the mountain to the cave where the Great Teacher resided. Along the way a storm struck and the guides turned back, but the yogai persevered and with his last bit of strength he crawled into the cave. "Great Master," he said, bowing, "I've come a long way to ask you a question. What's the meaning and purpsose of life?" The Master raised his index finger and proclaimed, "Life is a fountain." You mean I came all this way, and nearly killed myself making the effort, and all you have to tell me is that life is a foutain?"  The Teacher thought for a few moments and said, "You mean life isn't a fountain?"

5. A student went to his Meditation Teacher and said, "My meditation is horrible! I constantly get distracted, or my legs ache, or I'm dozing off during my practice. It's really demoralizing!"  "It will pass," the Teacher said matter-of-factly.

A week later, the student came back to his teacher. "My meditation is wonderful! I feel so aware, so peaceful, so alive! It's just wonderful!" "It will pass," the teacher replied matter-of-factly.

Raging Mom

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I have spent so much time reflecting on how to deal with my mother, and I have yet to find an answer. How do we approach dealing with our parents, as we are taught to honor them, when a parent can be a mean person. My mother is a very mean person, the type that enjoys nasty gossip, and is just generally rude. My husband and I are taking care of her and my father, and sometimes I feel like I love her out of duty, but not out of love. How do we deal with a family member's constant negativity without letting it flare up within ourselves? I find myself getting so angry around her sometimes, and I do not want to live this way. Any advice?

This is a difficult issue, but we feel that it is an opportunity for all involved to make breakthroughs. Consider this piece of wisdom: Question: Why do our parents press our buttons? Answer: Because they installed them!

WHEN DEALING WITH PEOPLE WHO PUSH OUR BUTTONS, ESPECIALLY FAMILY MEMBERS, TRY TO SEE THEM AS SOMEONE MIGHT WHO'S MEETING THEM FOR THE FIRST TIME. IN OTHER WORDS, BE PRESENT AND PRACTICE LETTING YOUR PAST HISTORY WITH THEM FALL AWAY. AT THE END OF THE DAY, YOU MAY STILL FEEL THE SAME WAY, BUT IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO MAKE THAT ASSESSMENT FROM A PLACE OF NEUTRALITY.

It is very commendable that you are taking care of your parents. Sometimes people are in our lives in the role of unlikely teachers. Your mother is showing you where the work on yourself needs to be done so you can learn to be neutral. The way to do that is to meditate. We highly recommend the So Darshan Chakra Kriya Meditation (you can find it on our
Group Page on Facebook (scroll down until you see the Meditation of the Month. discussion). It's also on  Yoga Bliss Hips,Yoga Quick Fixes, and Yoga House Call . It will give you the means to get back to yourself and will give you your overview back. It also helps you to identitfy and resolve negative emotions and turn them into something positive. We can't emphasize enough how much this technqiue will help you. So Darhsan Chakra Kriya is great for turning anger into inspiration.

When you have gotten to the point where you can be neutral then you can set boundaries and let your mother know when her behavior upsets you and what you're not willing to put up with, and do what you need to do to be true to yourself. It may be that as a result of your meditation practice you may arrive at creative ways to help your mom transform. If your mother continues to try to undermine you, you will need to set further boundaries.You have a God-given right not to let yourself be compromised by negativity. Please keep us posted! Jealousy

My boyfriend is business partners with a woman who he used to be in a relationship with. The relationship ended shortly after the start of their business and has been a professional one for three years now. We met a year ago.  I realize that is something I have to accept (them working together on a daily basis), but it is hard to not get jealous everytime I hear her on the phone with him. I get so angry inside and I hate the way I feel. Do you have any affirmations that would help me find the inner peace I seek in this situation?  Thank you,

It is understandable that you feel the way you do. Some jealously is part of being human, and you shouldn't be too hard on yourself. We feel that the fact that your boyfriend and his business partner have already had a relationship and found out they didn't mesh should bring you some solace. Perhaps you could try to become friends with this woman so that you can see her in a different light. If you have certain boundaries and concerns it is good to share them with your boyfriend, but before you speak to him though, we suggest that you get really clear with yourself. It is always best to communicate from a place of strength within yourself. Jealousy is a First Chakra issue and when we feel that our territory is being threatened we go into high alert mode, which may or may not, correspond to reality.

We suggest that you practice the Sat Kriya exercise which is on many of our DVD's including
Ultimate Stretch Workout, a A Journey thru the Chakras, and Kundalini Yoga for Beginners & Beyond. Sat Kriya isone of the most powerful exercises to work through stubborn First Chakra blocks.

Weight Loss & Erectile Dysfuntion
Hi ,I have got your DVD's and they are brilliant.I have got your Fat Free Yoga, Yoga for Beginners and Beyond and Yoga Cleanse.They are all fantastic. Just a quick question I want to loose weight and I do your Fat Free Yoga dvd. I am always very busy don't have much of time can I split my exercise in to like doing half an hour in the morning and half an hour in the evening?
 
Secondly my husband is suffering from Erectile dysfunction. Which DVD should he practice to cure this problem and what foods will help him.Do you recommend doing yoga cleanse to clean the liver and remove toxins or anything else would help him.I think his problem is due to blood flow in pennis, his diet and as he works during night so he is stressed as well?  would really appreciate your comments on this.

Thanks for writing. If you cannot do all of
Fat Free Yoga(which we suggest for more efficient weightloss), then we recommend a very brisk 10 minute walk followed by 1 of the Fat Free Yoga segments in the morning and repeat this at night. The segments can be programmed to be about 20 minutes so you can still get your workout done in a half hour. We recommend that 1 day a week you do the Yoga Cleanse DVD. One segment in the morning and one later on.

You might try changing up your diet for now as well. You could try a sort of vegetarian version of the Zone Diet (you can look this up online). Or have a (low calorie) protein smoothie as a meal replacement for breakfast. Then eat a balanced lunch and have dinner as early as possible (try to eat nothing after 7:30), combine your food wisely, and watch your portions. You will find it is not difficult to lose weight once you get into a certain rhythm and start replacing some old habits with new ones.

The "5 Tibetan Set" from
Kundalini Yoga for Beginners & Beyondwould be a good set for your husband as well as the Fertility and Potency segment on Yoga House Call . Kundalini Yoga & Medication

Thanks in advance for answering my question. I have been diagnosed with a thyroid condition and my doctor want to put me on a medication which I will probably have to take for the rest of my life. Can you recommend any way around this? I'm really in a quandry about what to do. Eagerly awaiting your reply!

Thanks for writing. We applaud your courage in being proactive and exploring healthy options for your condition. We are not doctors and can't legally advise you contrary to your doctor's directive, but we can say that people have experienced great success in using Kundalini Yoga and a healthy lifestyle in situations very similar to your's. This is the kind of real life drama that we observe often. People intuitively feel that they can work with their conditions naturally, but are afraid to go against their doctor's orders. However, please let your doctor know exactly what you plan to do and together you may work out a mutually satisfactory solution. Our bodies are self-regulating and have an amazing ability to respond successively to healthy input. Meditation of the Month

This is one of the most powerful mantras in Kundalini Yoga.

Ad Guray Namay (Odd Gooray Nomay)
Jugad Guray Namay (Joogod Gooray Nomay)
Sat Guray Nam (Sot Gooray Nomay)
Siree Guru Dev Ay Nomay
(Sear-ee Guru Dev Ay Nomay)

Ad Such Jugad Such Habee Such

Nanaka Hosee Bee Such 

Ad Such Jugad Such Habay Such
Nanaka Hosee Bay Such 


The first part means: I bow to the Primal Wisdom / I bow to the Wisdom through the ages / I bow to the True Wisdom / I bow to the great unseen Wisdom which shall always prevail. This is to protect you. Many people recite it once before driving, etc.

This second part means: True in the Beginning, True Through The Ages, True Now, The True One Shall Ever Be True. This is to work through blocks in your inner life.

The third part is a derivation of the second, the only difference being "bay such," instead of "bee such." This is to work through blocks in your outer life. It "kicks out the jams!" It's also good to use when you encounter creative blocks.

When chanting
Ad Such Jugad Such Habee Such Nanaka Hosee Bee Such and its variation, you can make the mantra even more powerful by doing this:

On
Ad feel the sound going down the sides of the spine. On Such pull your navel inward and feel the sound going up the center of the spine. On Jugad feel the sound going down the sides of the spine. On Such pull your navel inward and feel the sound going up the center of the spine. On Habee feel the sound going down the sides of the spine. On Such pull your navel inward and feel the sound going up the center of the spine. On Nanaka feel the sound going down the sides of the spine. On Hosee feel the sound going up the center of the spine.feel the sound going down the sides of the spine. On Bee On Such pull your navel inward and feel the sound going up the center of the spine.

Each of the three parts of this mantra can be used individually, but when put together they are a potent combination which will help things flow in your life and blessings come your way! We know it seems like magical thinking: just recite a mantra and good luck will happen, but the fact is, there is a real mechanism at play here. The science of sound and vibratory effect is an ancient one, more sophisticated a technology than the science we know.
