July/August 2010 Ideas & Tips
Friend
I hope everyone is having a relaxing summer so far! We're sharing some fun projects with you in this edition. There is sports art and BIG art...starting with an Andover Massachusetts mom, Kristin L who had some creative ideas for a big wall. See more below.

Then we helped Andrea Thome create a surprise birthday/retirement gift for her future Hall of Famer husband Jim Thome, with a "Field of Dreams" twist. And the summer sports theme continues with a series of paintings done for an NBC Sports segment prior to the third round of the US Open Golf Championship from Pebble Beach!

If you see anything you like in this issue and would like to share it, please forward this email to anyone who will enjoy getting original art for less. The blue "FORWARD EMAIL" text is in the lower left-hand corner of every issue. And here is a link if you want to check out earlier issues of Ideas & Tips.

Big beach memories time three.
  Summertime 3 panel art
This is the kind of creative and collaborative project that we love. Kristin L. of Andover, Massachsetts has some great beach memories. She decided to try uploading several photos of her young family romping and playing in the surf to see what our free proof would look like.

After seeing the first painting of one of her daughters with a shovel and the sky and ocean horizon behind her, she began to think bigger. "Can you combine different children from different shots? Can you keep the horizon line the same so they work together as a group?" We did just that, and now each 24" x 36" painting line up to form an impressive triptych over 6 feet by three feet, that will give a warm energy to her kitchen during those chilly Massachusetts evenings to come.

Happy Birthday surprise for the Thomenator!
  Jim Thome's surprise
When I got a call from a nice woman asking if I could create a painting for her husband's 40th birthday and retirement party as a surprise I said sure. She explained that she would like a new background to replace the current one. She said her husband played ball (I was thinking like in an office league) and she thought some of the "Field of Dreams" imagery would be neat.

I was the one who was surprised (and honored) when I saw her uploaded photo and realized that her husband is Jim Thome, the player in the #10 position on the all-time home run list and destined to become a Hall of Famer! So we took Jim and his children out of the stadium tunnel and put them walking through a midwest cornfield where he's going to have more time to enjoy his lovely wife and children. Here's to a happy birthday and retirement Jim!

Bob Costas and the 'strokes of genius'
Paintings from the US Open at Pebble Beach
Another phone call from another pleasant sounding young lady, Holly McClure, asking if I could do a painting of a golfer. Sure, no problem. It became a lot more interesting when she said she was a producer in NY working on a segment to be aired in about 10 days on the US Open Golf tournament from Pebble Beach! The idea was to show a 'painter' creating canvases of former winners at the picturesque Pacific ocean-side course. Since the setting is one of the most beautiful in the world, the actor/artist's work was interspersed with footage of former winners, tying into Bob Costa's narration of the "strokes of genius" needed to prevail at the Pebble Beach course championship.

We were honored to have been selected by the producers at NBC Sports to create these paintings of Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Tom Kite and Tiger Woods. The folks from NY to CA were wonderful to work with! Even if you are not a big golf fan, check out the beautiful job done by the team at NBC.

How big should you go?
  Using larger art
Angela T. in San Francisco wanted to surprise her photographer husband by turning a couple of his travel photos into large-scale pieces for their home. Both were made 42" x 32" and included the small text inscription with the place, date and her husband's name. What a nice way to remember Tibet and Vietnam.

Elizabeth C. from Austin, Texas, also had some pleasant beach memories that she wanted to remember in a big way. She had us create a 65" x 41" canvas from her photo of little sandpipers running through the shallow surf and wet sand. Here she is standing next to it to help put it in scale. Even the birds are bigger in Texas!

"You said it!" ...and we thank you.

The following are some comments that have come in since our last newsletter, all unsolicited. We are so grateful for happy customers!

Wow...it looks great...I just love the background, and my husband will be blown away and so touched. Thanks for taking care of this so quickly...I plan to present it to him at his surprise party.  Many of his teammates will be there, and I suspect you will get many inquiries after they see the painting.  Thanks again...and I wish you a continued busier than usual summer ;)   Best, Andrea T.

Just a quick note to thank you very, very much for the extra print and tell you I thought the paintings were both stunning. They were intended as a gift for my husband. He was thrilled. Thanks so much for a lovely job! Jill S.

Just wanted to say "thank you"! The pictures were here on Wednesday for my husband's birthday and he loved them. I have to say they turned out great. So very pleased. Love them, Love them!

I wanted to thank you so much for sending the painting, its mind-blowing how real it looks. It really touches a lot of people here as Shiloh was such an awesome horse. She had such a personality and many people who see this already are shedding tears over it. I'd like to go ahead and get your business listed on our website with your permission. Sincerely, Cheri W. (This was a pro bono piece for an equine resue group's fundraiser in Oklahoma)

The print arrived today and it was exactly what I had hoped for. Thanks for the nice job. Jim G.

We got the cards already. They look great. The picture is supposed to come tomorrow. Can't wait to see our favorite girl captured so handsomely. Thank you for the fast service. We are sad but happy to have such a nice remembrance. Peter W. (We also handled getting note cards with the art on them to share with friends)
