August 2008 Ideas & Tips
Friend
Labor Day is just around the corner followed by football season, cooler weather and the holiday season! I write this in the middle of Tropical Storm Fay, which knocked out a tree in our backyard, created flooding and caused thousands of homes to lose power in our area ( we still have electricity and internet amazingly enough!)...at least there shouldn't be forest fires around here anytime soon.

This month I'll touch on 3 topics: the possibilities for making a great painting from a less-than-perfect photo, the flexibility that our proofing system affords you and the benefit of gathering your thoughts early for the upcoming holiday gift-giving season.

"Can you change something in my picture?"
  Retouching Examples
Can you put an Astros cap on my father and put us in a different stadium? Can you place my sister in the doorway of the cabin? Can you remove the person behind my parents? Can you pull the puppies closer together?

Don't be discouraged by a less than perfect photo. If it has something in it that you feel is worth remembering, accompanied by something you'd rather not see - or another element from different photo you'd like combined, just upload and explain what you'd like to see in the proof.

That's what proofs are for...
  Loose And Tight Samples
With every photo upload we offer a free, no-obligation proof that can be reviewed prior to purchasing your painting. We do this to help alleviate any anxiety about what your painting will look like and it's why we can offer an unconditional money-back satisfaction guarantee with our artwork. You always have the opportunity to see just how your photo will translate into a painting!

Every proof is accompanied by an e-mail that explains, among other things, that you should "Be sure to check the close-up details to see the painting technique texture. The amount of brushstroke texture can be adjusted to be more or less realistic, depending on your tastes." This is important because some people like a painting to be very loose, with a lot of brushstroke texture whereas some prefer a very tight, almost photographic painting. And that's exactly what the proofing system allows us to do, to make sure your painting is exactly what you want. In a recent survey, previous purchasers were very emphatic about loving this aspect of our studio's method of operation. Above are three examples of the same (very close-up) detail done as 'tight', 'normal' and 'loose' so you can get the idea.

Starting your gift-planning early can save you money!
  Painting Gift
So many of our paintings seem to be ordered for gift-giving...weddings, birthdays, and anniversaries. The nice thing about giving paintings as holiday gifts is that several different people on your list can be taken care of at once, really simplifying your gift giving.

Those special memories turn into extra special gifts...that great shot of your child becomes a wonderful gift for Mom, Dad and the grandparents. Turn that vacation shot into a piece of art for the home or office. Restore old photos into a family heirloom. Plus, gift certificates can be purchased for even easier giving!
