This month I'm highlighting a couple of creative ladies from California to Pennsylvania...how they solved gift giving and decorating dilemmas. And I'm answering a frequently asked questions about photo size and turnaround time.

Say goodbye to those refrigerator magnets!
  Child art
Dawn Lindeman from California is decorating her new home and wanted 'something special' for the children's bedrooms, bath and play areas. She started by taking digital photos of art that the kids had created on poster board at various times. Then she uploaded and chose the 'photo-realistic' option for prints on canvas. After a museum-wrap, the art was ready to hang right out of the box, a week later.

What a neat way to encourage the little Rembrandts in your midst! Not only colorful and personal, it elevates the stature of their creativity for years to come. A very real example of "Making your memories into art."

Don't like the background? No problem!
  Pet Portrait Examples
Jennifer from Pennsylvania loves her two dogs and had a great shot of the two of them on the sofa. Nice shot of the dogs, but she wasn't in love with the background. "Can the artist do anything like just a plain brown or gray background?"

Just specify any alterations or changes that you feel will enhance the transformation from photo to painting, or we will make suggestions if you just aren't sure. In this case, by treating the background as a muted color that blends well with the subjects we have created a more 'classic' portraiture feeling from a very candid shot.

FAQ: "What's your turnaround time?"
  camera
From the time a photo is uploaded to our site, a proof of your painting is usually posted in your own online viewing space within 24 to 48 hours. Upon your approval and online payment (by secure credit card transaction) we are currently taking 3-4 days depending on framing choices before your art is shipped out by UPS.

Another frequent issue is file size. A few people have uploaded VERY small files from either cell phone shots or much older digital cameras. The digital photo should have a minimum file size of 500k to 1000k for the painting technique, and at least 5000k or larger if the photo realistic option is chosen, depending on the enlargement size. 500k is really relatively small and most shots these days are that size or larger. Our unique 6-step filtering process can translate enough detail from your shot into a very nice larger sized painting, often where a straight photo print that size might be unsatisfactory. If this sounds too complicated and you just aren't sure, upload your photo and we'll let you know whether it is usable. So far about 90 % are usable.
