We have moved full swing into Fall - over the summer we averaged 45% of clients being mid-day contracts and 55% pet sits - now we have shifted into 60% mid-days and 40% pet sits. Jul/Aug and Nov/Dec are the highest ratio of pet sits to mid day clients. Feb is the highest month for mid-day contracts.

"The Scoop" from Becky

Halloween is just around the corner!
Jack O'Lanterns, ghosts, ghouls, vampires, and other spooky creatures start to decorate homes and stores. AND that also means, we are getting even closer to the HOLIDAYS... WOW!... Christmas trimmings are hitting some store shelves already as retailers prepare for their busiest season of the year! Well, it's our busiest and best time of the year, too! So get ready, everyone... it will be here before you know it!
Big thanks to everyone for their help in the move and for everyone's patience. We are loving this extra space AND all the windows. I feel so lucky to have such a great staff of wonderful people!

Annual Reviews
Last call to sign up for your Annual Review. Reviews will be done in October. The last date with available appointments is Friday October 28. All employees who have worked here at least six months as of October 1 (i.e., you began working before April 1, 2011) will have their Annual Review done in October. To be considered for a merit increase, you must participate with your Annual Review by signing-up for and attending your review in October. To sign up for your Annual Review contact Johna.
PET FIRST AID & CPR TRAINING
The last Pet First Aid & CPR training before the end of 2011 will be Sunday November 13 from 2:00 -6:00 PM.
This training will be held at our new office.

Autumn is a Season of Changes - Including at the Office!
Since the last Employee Newsletter, many changes have occurred in the BPC office.
- Scott left the office September 15.
- We moved to the new office September 25.
- Richard Rothwell joined the Customer Care Team. He began working for BPC early 2011 as a dog walker. Please say hello & welcome Richard the next time you call or come to the office.
- Erin Barry joined the Administration Team as the Human Resource assistant. She brings experience and training in many areas of human resources including benefit administration. Her work hours are Monday-Thursday 11:00 am-4:00 pm. Please say hello and join us in welcoming Erin to our BPC team.
Upcoming dates of importance:
- Oct 21: Open House at the new office, 4-7 pm, & PAYDAY (NOTE: Oct 7 employee payday breakfast postponed to the Oct 21 open house)

Monthly Handbook Contest
All Pet Care Professionals are responsible for knowing and following the Pet Care Procedures Manual and the Employee Handbook. Here's a contest to help learn the policies and procedures. PET CARE: NEWS YOU CAN USE
Below is a recap of some important reminders discussed at this year's Annual Meeting:
- Always assume every visit might be your last. Clients come home early and you don't want to be caught off guard.
- Make your profiles as clean and complete as possible. Update the profile as if a sitter is coming to your home to care for your pets.
- Check off your visits by 10am. Do not check visits off ahead of time (Ex: checking off visits scheduled for the entire week).
- If an animal is not home-call the client first, then the office.
- If a client gives you a service agreement, please do your best to get it to us within 72 hours. Bring it to the office or, if possible, scan, email, or send it via fax (703-822-0935).
- At a registration visit, let your client know they need to schedule or cancel service through the office, NOT through you.
- If a preferred time is not on the profile, please provide the office with the time you normally go in case we need to send a substitute.
- Make sure to call your client three days prior to service, except for midday contracts.
- Always update lockbox codes.
- If you send a text to the office, please identify yourself! We don't have your cell phone numbers memorized...
- If you are at a client's home and there's a situation that prevents you from successfully completing the service (Ex: keys not working, dog being shy or aggressive), call the office ASAP-do NOT leave until you speak to us!
Whether you were unable to attend or too occupied with our new health insurance, we want to make sure you keep these pointers in mind so we as a company can continue to provide the quality service we are known for!

Employee of the Month
Susan Baxter
Congratulations to Susan Baxter for being Employee of the Month for September! Since starting in June Susan is consistently hard at work walking dogs and caring for pets, and she receives a lot of positive feedback from her clients. She always has a wonderfully upbeat attitude and is very loving towards her clients' pets and their homes. Susan continually takes responsibility for her schedule and is willing to help the office with sub work whenever she can. She also keeps great communication with the office and we really appreciate everything she does--thank you, Susan, and keep up the great work!

Not only has she taken wonderful care of my treasured pets Raymond and Emma, she selflessly gave of her time yesterday and took control of a situation that could have been disastrous for my home. When Lynne arrived yesterday to walk my dogs she discovered that my basement was flooding. She contacted me immediately at work and then began soaking up water in an effort to protect my furniture and antiques. Lynne's good deeds continued after I arrived home. She continued to help me both inside and outside my home. If it was not for Lynne the damage to my home could have been significant.
