This is a win-win situation on so many levels.  When you bring in new clients you receive $20 and if those clients are near your other clients you don't have to drive as far to service clients!  Remember the tips of dropping off your referral materials when you are out on your walks and in the neighborhood shops of places where you work and live.  Just a few new clients can significantly reduce your drive time and mileage - Oh yeah and earn you $20 each!  :)

 I hope everyone had a great summer!  Thank you to all of our fabulous Pet Care Professionals and Customer Care Representatives who did such an excellent job this summer caring for our clients, keeping up with all of the reservations and scheduling changes, and welcoming new clients. Becky's is blessed to have such fantastic employees making a difference in the lives of our clients and their pets. Many, many thanks!

 

I would like to make sure that everyone knows about Becky's Facebook page. Please "Like" Becky's on Facebook at www.facebook.com/beckyspetcare. As a fan, you can post comments or photos to our page. Feel free to post good quality photos of what the pets in your care are doing during the day. Just make sure that you only add a pet's name to the photo. Do not include information that would identify a client. Make sure the photos does not have identifying information in the background such as a street sign or house number, a school or shopping center, or any other identifying landmarks. Confidentiality is your responsibility. If you post a photo, let your client know so that they can share with friends. Our clients love to brag about their four-legged children!

WINNER OF THE HANDBOOK CONTEST FOR A $25 GAS CARD

 

No winner for the August Handbook Contest! The answers were: a) F, b) T, c) F, d)T, e)T, f)F, g)T, h)T, i) F.  Everyone missed "f". The correct answer was: "All Employees who have worked here for more than six months (i.e. started work before April 1 of this year) will have an annual review this October. Employees who began working here after April 1 of the current do not have an annual review until October of the following year. This month's Handbook Contest question is at the bottom of the Human Resources Updates section.

 

 

Health Insurance Open Season

Open Season for Becky's Pet Care Health Insurance is the month of September.  As this was written, details of the 2011-2012 company insurance plan are not available.  Contact Johna for information.  A presentation of the 2011-2012 insurance plan will be given at the Annual Meeting on September 21. There will be time for individual questions with the BPC insurance agent.

 

Annual Meeting

The Annual Company meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 21 from 7:00pm-9:00 pm. Mark your calendars. More information will be coming in

next month's newsletter, a flier in an upcoming paycheck, and an email reminder closer to the date.  Topics for the meeting include: changes in company policies and procedures as well as a presentation on the 2011-2012 company health insurance policy.

 
 

 

PET FIRST AID & CPR TRAINING

 
The last Pet First Aid & CPR training before the October Annual Reviews will be 

Sunday September 25 from 2:00 -6:00 PM.  This will be held at the CBP, 7001 Lois dale Road, Suite C (upstairs), Springfield, VA 22150. (Same place as last year's Annual Company Meeting and the holiday party.) Space is limit.  To register contact Johna

If you had a goal to take the PET First Aid & CPR training, you'll want to register for this class. 

 

Annual Reviews

Annual Reviews will be held October 1-31.  A list of sign-up times will be available at the Annual Meeting on September 21. All employees who have worked here at least six months as of October 1 (i.e., you began working before April 1, 2011) will have their Annual Review done in October. To be considered for a merit increase, you must participate with your Annual Review by signing-up for and attending your review in October.  After the September 21 Annual Meeting, to sign up for your Annual Review contact Johna.

Saturday September 24 will be the last workday in the old office from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. 

 

 

We'll be in the new office beginning Sunday September 25 for regular office hours, 10:00 AM - 1:00. PM. You should come to the new office for anything you need beginning this day. T

Monthly Handbook Contest

All Pet Care Professionals are responsible for knowing and following the Pet Care Procedures Manual and the Employee Handbook.  Here's a contest to help learn the policies and procedures.   Answer the question correctly and be entered to win a $25 gas card.  Email your answer to Johna.  All correct responses received by 5 pm Wednesday September 14 will be entered in a drawing to win. Employees who work full-time in the office are not eligible to win.  Send the correct answer or answers to this question.

 

September's Question:

This month's Handbook & Procedures question is about Courteous "confirmation" calls required for ALL pet sitting services. Select the one correct or most correct answer.

 

a)       The office receives at least one call from a client a week about a Pet Care Professional who did not make their Courtesy "confirmation" call.

b)       A complaint or inquiry from a client about not receiving a Courtesy "confirmation" call will result in incident documentation for the employee.

c)        Clients' emailed invoices tell them they will receive a Courtesy Call. If they don't receive the call, they are to call the office before leaving to make sure service is scheduled.

d)        No less than three days before a service begins, make a Courtesy Call to the client to confirm your visits.  Confirm the specific dates of service, emergency contact information, and instructions for pet care. (If this is a last minute assignment, make a Courtesy Call to the client as soon as you receive the assignment.)

e)        If the registration visit takes place within 3-4 days of the start of service, you do not need to make an additional Courtesy Call to the client. (Within 24 hours of receiving an assignment with a new client, you are responsible for calling the client to confirm the registration visit. If a registration time set up by the office is inconvenient, reschedule with the client ASAP. You must also inform your Manager of the new registration date and time.)

f)        A & B are incorrect.

PET CARE: NEWS YOU CAN USE

 

 

Please remember to keep your profiles updated!! Although this is an ongoing issue, we experienced several incidents within the last month due to client profiles not being updated and would greatly appreciate some effort to correct this in the future. Not only is it unprofessional, it is also unfair to send a substitute into your clients' homes without enough information to successfully complete the visits. This is a reflection of both you and the rest of the company, so it is important to gather as much information as possible for your client profiles; it is always better to have lots of information about a client's home than none at all. And remember: Theresa has the ability to perform Quality Control visits at any time and if she is unable to successfully complete a visit for you, then a substitute will certainly have problems... For your own benefit and that of the company, please do your best to keep your profiles organized, detailed, and current

 ROBYN HORSTKAMP 
 

Congratulations to Robyn Horstkamp for being Employee of the Month for August! Robyn helped the office out tremendously this month by offering to substitute on a day off from her other job and she is always willing to help her fellow pet sitters in a time of need. She consistently keeps great communication with the office about keys and lockboxes, and is very responsive whenever the office needs to get in touch with her. Robyn's clients frequently send positive compliments when they return home and are always excited to have her stop by again. Thank you for all your hard work, Robyn-we really appreciate it!

 Susan Baxter - "Praise for Susan Baxter: "I just wanted to take a minute and rave about how wonderful Susan Baxter is.  There was a time when I was skeptical about hiring someone to come in and walk our dogs, but now, I truly do not know what we would do without her.  We are so incredibly fortunate that Susan is the person seeing about our fur children (Riley and Daisy) every day.  Aside from the fact that I love the detailed and informative notes she leaves us about Riley and Daisy (I keep all of them because they make me laugh!), Susan is such a keeper because she is incredibly thoughtful, considerate and always communicating.  For example, after the earthquake last week, I was very nervous about how the dogs would be, and I was out of town on business.  Without my even having to ask, Susan went back to our apartment to check on Riley and Daisy and soothe them a bit, and then she called and left me such a nice message to let me know how they were doing. Her tips on behavioral habits (such as chewing carpet padding) and things like that never go unnoticed, and I truly appreciate her taking the time to give us such personal service.  I wish I could put into words how thankful we are to have Susan in our lives.  The service and peace of mind she provides us is absolutely invaluable - I wish I could teach the people I work with to emulate her client service and relationship skills.  Our dogs adore her; my husband and I adore her.  She is a treasure, and like I said before, I just don't know what we would do without her.  Many thanks for sending her our way." - Brett Hurt
