How many of you are as tired of winter as I am? I am so hoping for no more snow! Unfortunately, during these winter months, inclement weather is practically a given. When you are providing pet care in the bad weather, please remember that safety is first - your safety and then the pets. Some safety tips to remember are to plan ahead, dress in layers, watch for ice and walk carefully, and especially, be careful on the roads. I would like to extend a huge thank you for putting in all the extra effort it takes to do a great job in the winter months - from bundling yourself and the pets to trudging through the snow in your heavy boots and even wiping pet paws 10 times a day! Thank you to the very best pet care team!

You guys are awesome!

Human Resources Updates

CONGRATULATIONS Jackie Carpenter!  Jackie's name was drawn from all correct replies to last month's Handbook Contest.  She won a $25 gas card to a local gas station of her choice.  "After I made sure I had the right answers, something happen when tried to send it and I lost everything.  I had to start all over again. It was worth it."

This month's Handbook Contest question is at the bottom of the Human Resources Updates section.

IMPORTANT!!  UPDATE TO PET CARE PROCEDURES MANUAL

Effective immediately, a policy change has been made in the Safety & Emergency Information section of this manual, subsection, Inclement Weather/National Emergency for Pet Care-Dog Walks number 1c. Please note:

c.        You must inform both the client and your manager if environmental conditions prohibit your travel.

WIN A $25 GAS CARD

Monthly Handbook Contest

All Pet Care Professionals are responsible for knowing and following the Pet Care Procedures Manual and the Employees' Handbook.  Here's a contest to help learn the policies and procedures.   Answer the question correctly and be entered to win a $25 gas card.  Email your answer to Johna.  All correct responses received by 5 pm Friday February 11 will be entered in a drawing to win. Employees who work full-time in the office are not eligible to win.  Email the correct answer or answers to this question.

CHANGE IN OFFICE STAFF

Ashley Walters left Becky's Pet Care and Northern Virginia for the (hopefully) warmer state of Georgia.  We thank her for her hard work and wish her well. Beth Monroney joined the Becky's Pet Care office team on Thursday, February 3 and will be taking over Ashley's job.  When you come to the office, please say hi and welcome Beth.

February's Question:

A winter storm occurs, like the recent ice/snow event, and your schedule includes dog walks and pet sits in two local governments, A & B.  Government A is open with a 2 hr delay arrival with no evening activities and employees allowed to take unscheduled leave. Government B is closed.  You live in Government B and would prefer not to do any visits that day because of conditions on your street. Do you..........

a) call dog walk & pet sit clients in Government B & tell them you can't do the visits

b) call dog walk & pet sit clients in Government A & tell them you can't do the visits

c) call dog walk clients in Government B & tell them you can't do the visits

d) call dog walk clients in Government A & tell them you can't do the visits

e) call your manager to tell them you can't do your visits

f) call all clients & then call your manager to tell them you can't do your visits

PET CARE NEWS YOU CAN USE!

I want to remind everyone that it is against our Company Policy to check visits off that you know you are not going to do. We have noticed an increase in the past several weeks with this particular policy not being followed. When you see a visit on your schedule that you know should not be there, please call the office immediately so we can get it off your schedule.

Event4Employee of the Month

Kay Beim

I want to congratulate Kay Beim for being our employee of the month for January. On February 4th Kay celebrated her 3rd  year  anniversary with our company. Kay is one of our midday dog walkers in the Springfield area and, if that doesn't keep her busy enough, Kay always finds time to assist the office with mentoring and training our new hires. Kay keeps great communication with the office and follows through with all the details to make sure things are done correctly.

Thank you, Kay, for all of your hard work and dedication. We truly appreciate the great job you have done for us.

Roze Mota - "I wanted to let you know what a great job Roze did!  She not only kept my cat company, but she had to give her two types of medicine to include an asthma inhaler, which can sometimes be difficult but is vital to keeping my cat healthy and breathing.  I came back from both trips to find my cat healthy and well taken care of.  Roze was great and I will request her again if I take another trip."  Anise Puckett

shining star Kimberly Kelly & Liz Ausdenmoore - "Please convey our heartfelt thank you to Kimberly who walked our dogs today January 15, 2011.  When we got home, our dogs told us they had a nice time and we saw how relaxed they were and how happy.  We also appreciate the report card your sitters fill out after every walk.  Please keep it up.  We just want to let you know how much we appreciate your services.  To Liz (our past dog walker) and Kimberly, many many thanks." Stella and Paul Fuentes

shining starRoze Mota -"Roze Mota took care of my dog this weekend and went beyond the call of duty (so to speak).  Scout was sick and Roze was faced with cleaning up a couple messes.  This was very unexpected, especially when Scout urinated in the house, something he has not done for nine years!  Her detailed notes were most helpful, especially if Scout needs to see a veterinarian...Now I know why you are so highly rated on Angie's List.  I will add my review in the next few days." Scott Winn

shining star Jamie Pendarvis  - "I'm very happy with the service that Jamie provided.  She took care of my parrot for 5 days this month. When I got back home, my parrot's cage was spotless and I was very impressed.  What websites can I post a positive review to?" Adam O'Connor (He was recommended Angie's List and Yelp.com)

shining starDiana Marousek - ""Everything was excellent, thanks to Diana for her excellent service!" Kirstin Schlereth

shining starKimberly Kelly - "Kimberly was great! Our dogs loved her the minute she came in and we knew they would be in great hands while we were gone.  We would definitely have her watch them again." Amber Rector

shining star Diana Marousek - "My cat really likes Diana and was in excellent shape when I returned." Elizabeth Cusato

shining starCristi Kruse - "Thank you for your services! Christi was a great pet sitter, and my husband and I loved reading the report cards.  We will definitely be using you again when we have to leave on another trip!" Chris & Kate Gardner

shining starTheresa Stanley - "The kitties and I love Theresa. She is the best. Thank you for sending her to us (now for the second time)!!"  Brenda Laughlin
