Ava
Ava loves people! Ava was relinquished to the shelter because she was pregnant and her previous owner had too many dogs. Ava lived at the shelter for 3 months and then moved into a temporary foster home. Ava was very young and playful and quickly became a nuisance to the senior dogs in the foster home. Ava was attacked when attempting to initiate play. Ava is now in another foster home and recovering nicely from the injuries but will have a few small scars on her legs.
Ava is a very smart young lady, eager to please, and is quickly learning basic obedience commands. Ava rides well in the car, is house broken, non-destructive in the house, and is learning not to jump on furniture. Ava's ideal home would include an active household, a large fenced yard (5' or taller) and a home with older children (11 and up).

No Scaredy Cats This Halloween!
Halloween can be a stressful, even dangerous, holiday for pets.
Pets love routine and when your doorbell starts ringing and costumed kids are standing there, pets can get frightened and agitated. Try to keep you pet in an enclosed safe area with a toy. Here are some other safety tips:
- Unless they are used to strangers, keep your pets inside, away from trick or treaters.
- Be sure your pet is wearing a collar with id.
- Keep your pets out of the candy bowl. Chocolate is toxic to cats and dogs.
- Resist the urge to put your pet in a costume.
- Make sure pets can't reach candles or jack-o-lanterns.
Make sure you consider your pets' personality and how they will react to the different situations. Do what will keep your pet safe and happy. Have fun and Happy Howl-o-ween!
Did you know that pumpkin is good for dogs? Pumpkin is both nutritious and low in calories. In fact, pure canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix) is a good source of fiber and is often recommended as a dietary addition for a dog suffering from constipation.

October is Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month
|
When most of us think of October, we think of witches, goblins, ghosts, and the first signs of fall. However, October also happens to be Adopt-A-Dog month! Whether you are looking to adopt a dog or not, there are other ways ways to help out. You can volunteer at a shelter, donate supplies, and encourage others to adopt their dogs through a shelter or rescue organization. Many people don't consider adopting from shelters when searching for a new dog or pet; however, there are many advantages.
Top 5 reasons to adopt a shelter dog:
5. You can stop looking for love in all the wrong places.
4. Make a fast friend. (It only takes minutes, but lasts a lifetime.)
3. No assembly required! Shelter dogs come complete with shots, house training, and a lifetime of love.
2. Every dog should have his (adoption) day.
1. Save a life.
If you can't adopt a dog at this time, consider fostering one! Fostering allows a dog to experience the comforts of home while waiting for a forever family. Shelters can be very scary places for dogs, so opening your home to them can give them a much-needed safe and comfortable environment. Also, if you're interested in adopting a dog but are not sure if you or your family is ready, you can try fostering to see what it's like. Who knows, you could bring a foster dog into your home and never let him go!
