WOW, we are in full swing of Summer and July 4th is almost here. July 4th is always a day of fun. Whether you are taking a trip or looking forward to the fireworks close to home, make sure your pet feels safe. Enjoy a great a July 4 picnic with kids, fireworks, parades, ice cream and your pets!!!!
But it's so important to have a safe 4th of July if you are with your dog. Sometimes these outdoor activities can
become frightening to our dog or any animal. The heat, loud noises, unfamiliar people and other stressors can cause stress to our dogs and cats.
Every year during the 4th of July holiday, animal shelters experience
an alarming upsurge in the number of "strays" found by animal control.
These dogs have come to be known as "July 4th dogs". Be sure your pet has on the proper identification. Take
sensible precautions ...The biggest mistake pet lovers need to avoid is comforting their pet,
although done with good intentions, petting and coddling can actually
reinforce fear and panic. If you can, resist the urge to take your pet to a fireworks display, keep your pet indoors in a familiar area, leave a radio or TV on to keep him company....he will be happier and you will be too. For more great July 4th safety tips click here: July 4th Pet Safety Tips.

Waterproof Your Pooch!
Summer is a time when everyone enjoys spending time by the water, and
our pets are no exception. But there are certain safety issues which must be
considered when our pets are near the water.
Contrary to popular belief, not all dogs are natural swimmers. A dog
needs to be introduced to the water slowly and carefully. Never throw your dog
into a pool or other body of water as this may cause him to panic and drown.
Walk your dog into the water or pool slowly. Do not force him if he seems
uncomfortable. Be certain that your pet knows how to get out of the water
safely. Show him the correct way to enter and exit a body of water, such as at
a shallow point on the shore or by the steps in a pool.
