A New Pet?
Many people get a pet as the result of a present! Here are some tips to help your new family member feel right at home!
Things you will need for your new dog or cat to make them feel at home. Dogs and cats will need bedding , food and water bowls, and collars and a leash. Toys for cats and dogs will also help them. Activities will help entertain and distract them while they are getting used to their new home.
Crating your pet on the ride home is the best way to get him home safely. When at home, put the crate in an accessible area. The crate serves as a quiet safe place for the pet to go to get away from other pets or people.
Be sure to take your pet to the veterinarian soon after you get him. At this visit your pet can get an overall health check and rabies vaccinations, heart worm preventative and other inoculations. Your veterinarian can explain all shots and medications required by law, and also treatments that can help prevent health problems. He or she will advise you on care and feeding and answer any specific questions you may have about your new pet. |

Jack Frost is Nipping... at your Pet's Nose!
Some helpful hints to winterize your animal
Be aware of any antifreeze and engine coolants spills. This is lethal poison for cats and dogs.
If animals sleep outdoors be sure they are protected from rain, snow and wind. Be sure they are up off the ground.
The snow that covers your pets legs and paws can contain chemicals that when licked can be dangerous.
Puppies and small dogs cannot tolerate the cold like healthy adult dogs.
More dogs are lost in the winter months of November & December, so be sure they are wearing proper identification.
Have a safe and healthy winter!
