As we approach the beginning of the Jewish year, I would like to wish each and every one of you a happy and sweet new year. Rosh Hashanah is a time when we celebrate the creation of humanity. It is a time when we can reflect on what we learned the previous year and grow as individuals.

As we start a new year, a new journey and a new path, we have the opportunity to grow as human beings and improve our relationship with others and with G-d. I am honored and humbled to represent such diverse and active Jewish communities in Council District 5. The love, dedication and commitment that our communities embody are a true sign of our continued prosperity in the City of Los Angeles.

When we hear the iconic sound of the shofar this year, I know that I will be thinking about how lucky I am to be a part of such a vibrant and growing Jewish population in this City. Council District 5 would not be the same without you and I look forward to many more years of working together.

The White House today released a new tool to allow people to influence government called

"We the People."

It is essentially a petition site, and they promise: "If a petition meets the signature threshold, it will be reviewed by the Administration and an official response will be issued. And we'll make sure that the petition is sent to the appropriate policy makers in the Administration."

The White House promises an official response to every petition that garners at least 5000 signatures in a span of 30 days.
