Hilly, I am embarrassed to ask that you post this, but a real chilul haShem occurred on Sunday at the ARCO on Olympic and La Brea. I am not sure where else to turn. I helped a frum woman shut her hood on her new maroon Honda mini-van. I then played a little game with one of her two sons in the back seat. I went to pump my own gas and she pulled away with the hose still in her gas tank. She slowed when she heard the yells, saw what was happening and then continued! When the manager ran into La Brea to stop her, she swerved around him and barreled down Olympic! At that point, one person turned to me and said "I thought you people were more honest" and another person corrected her and told her "Of course they aren't". And a third said," Aren't you G-d's children?" All were directed at me since I also had a snood on. I had to explain the obvious that there are good and "others" in every religion. I beg each of you to think of the impression you leave on others when you act. The public critiques harshly. Besides breaking the secular law, your actions are clearly anti-Torah. I hope you return to the gas station to make amends. It was a shame your children had to witness this. |
