The following is the latest information concerning the attack as supplied from Officer David Herskowitz to Rabbi Rosenberg as of Monday, June 13th.
On Thursday, June 9th 2011 at 10:50am, the young woman was walking southbound along the east sidewalk of Coldwater Canyon from Chandler Blvd. A suspect drove up to the victim and approached from the rear. The suspect struck the victim in the head and dragged her back to the sidewalk. The victim was able to fight off the suspect. The suspect is described as a white male with blonde hair, 6 ft. tall, 230 lbs. and 35 years of age. He was wearing a dark short sleeved shirt and had a tattoo on the side of his neck with a picture of flames or mountains. He was driving a four door 1995-2000 black vehicle. At this time the motive has not been determined.
Again, the best response we can take as a community is to remain vigilant and walk in groups of at least 3 people. The North Hollywood Police Department is working in coordination with the Van Nuys Police Department to offer extra patrols in the area.
We thank Detective Yehuda Packer and Officer David Herskowitz, along with police liaisons Rabbi Israel Hirsch, Yisroel Blumenstein and Mickey Wolkenfeld for all of their efforts in addressing this crisis and keeping us informed. We of course will continue to provide information as it comes in.
The victim has shown tremendous bitachon during this terrible ordeal and continues to recover from her injuries. We wish her and her family only besoros tovos and a refuah shelaimah.
