Urgent Request from the Goldrich Family Foundation Mark Rothman, the Director of the Los Angeles Holocaust Museum in Pan Pacific Park, attended the Pan Pacific Park Advisory Board meeting yesterday. The matter of the Museum being open on Saturdays had been referred to them from the Recreation and Park Board of Commissioners for their input. The board voted unanimously NOT to allow Saturday hours. Their motion went further, asking the General Manager of Recreation and Parks to enforce the lease terms, which do not provide for the Museum to be closed on Sunday except by permission of the General Manager. (The PAB Board's intention was for the Museum to be forced to be closed on Saturdays as well. The motion went further: make sure our parking is for museum patrons only.) Mark presented to the Board a chart showing that the Museum had reasonable accommodations to eliminate any impact on the park's parking situation if we opened on Saturdays. They found the plan completely of no value. The issue will be heard Wednesday, April 6, 9.30 at the RAP Commissioners meeting. It will be held at Expo Center, which is just south of the Coliseum. It is essential as many supporters of the Museum as possible attend this meeting. Please mark your calendars. We can present arguments to the Commission that will counter the advisory board. If you can't attend, please write a letter discussing how important it is that the Museum be open on weekends to serve the citizens of Los Angeles, the intention for which the park was built. Reference Agenda Item 11-052. Send the letter to either of: Rap.commissioners@lacity.org Los Angeles City Recreation and Parks Department Office of Board of Commissioners 221 N. Figueroa St. Suite 1510 Los Angeles, CA 90012 Or e-mail it to Mark@lamoth.org and he will forward. We will prepare letters to be signed by our patrons talking about how important weekend hours are for people who cannot get here during the week. We will collect these letters and present them to the commissioners. Tell your friends and ask them to attend or write a letter!
