We spend quite a bit of time each year, especially in the spring, talking to our students about making good decisions, fighting temptation, and being true to themselves by not giving in to peer pressure. With the excitement of Prom this weekend and graduation right around the corner, spring is prime time for students to make bad decisions. Unfortunately, it is also prime time for parents to make bad decisions. We have done our best to share our thoughts with the students. At the risk of offending, I would like to share some thoughts with the parents. (more...)

Early Dismissal - Students will be dismissed at 2:30 p.m. in order to accommodate an extended faculty staff meeting.

Thursday, April 26  
Spirit Day - Students, Faculty and Staff may wear Jeans and Guerin Catholic Spirit wear.


Friday, April 27 
All School Mass - 9 a.m. in the gymnasium; mass day uniforms. 
we will be asking all students and Guerin Catholic family members who have entered the Catholic church within the past 4 years to come forward for a special blessing. Please plan on attending as Guerin Catholic welcomes her newest members to the Catholic faith!  

 

ddDad's Day Breakfast
Be sure to be on hand for Men's Head Basketball Coach Pete Smith at the next Dad's Day Breakfast on Friday, May 11, at 6:15 a.m. Spend some time with your son or daughter and listen to Pete's philosophy on coaching, his coaching journey, his time at Guerin Catholic and finally his reflections on the school's first team State Championship! RSVP to Cathy Dolan today! We must have all RSVP's no later than Friday, May 4.

The Opening Doors Capital Campaign is surging forward! The construction on the new wing has been aided by the mild weather (click here to view)and we have received our first $1 million dollar pledge for the Performing Arts Center!
Enrollment for the 2012-13 school year is projected to be well over 700 students! Let's keep this momentum going and get the academic wing completed!! Contact our advancement office or click here to make your pledge today!

clueCLUE--The Musical!

Find out Whodunit at the Guerin Catholic Fine Arts Department presentation of CLUE: THE MUSICAL. Shows are April 26, 27 and 28, May 3, 4, and 5 at 7:00pm.  Tickets are $10.00 at the door and Guerin Catholic students are free with ID. This is an audience participation play--you solve the mystery as you watch the show.  There are 216 possible endings!  Enjoy the Student Art Show in the Media Center on April 26, 27 and 28 from 5:00-7:00.  Please note that due to safety and fire reasons and movement of the cast around the theatre that only 300 guests will be seated for each show.  Please arrive early to purchase your ticket!  After 300 tickets are sold, each Saturday performance will be broadcast live in the gymnasium and streamed on the GCHS website.    

 

pfPolitical Forum at SEAS on April 23 
St.Elizabeth Ann Seton is hosting a Political Forum for Candidates for Indiana's 5th District Congressional.

 

                 Date:        Monday, April 23rd at 7:00 pm
            Location:        St. Elizabeth Seton, Social Hall
 
This is a non-partisan forum and all candidates have been invited to participate. The forum will concentrate on Article 1 of the Constitution of the United States. Dr. Tim Story will be the moderating the forum.


kcScholarships for Current GC Students 

The Bishop Fulcher Knights of Columbus from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish is offering three separate tuition scholarships to Guerin Catholic returning students.  One is specifically intended for students in the area of fine arts and two are regular scholarships, for which anyone can apply.

SVSt.Vincent Physicals 
St. Vincent is again offering physicals to Guerin Catholic student-athletes for $20 on Sunday, June 10, at the Carmel St.Vincent location.

Congratulations to Thomas Bright, sophomore, who was named as a finalist in the Stossel Essay Contest, sponsored by Stossel in the Classroom. Thomas' essay on "Politicians' Promises Gone Wrong" was chosen from nearly 4000 essays submitted from around the country. Congratulations Thomas!!

 

AUathleticsAthletics Updates                        

Softball
Your Golden Eagle Varsity Softball team will be competing in the Scecina Catholic Invite this weekend. We will play 3 ranked teams from all over the state.  Come and cheer them to victory tonight at 7 & 9 p.m. and Saturday morning at 9 & 11.  We are on the road next week taking on Covenant Christian on Thursday and University on Friday!  Good luck ladies!

Congratulations to the JV softball team in their come-from-behind win over Alexandria Monroe on Wednesday night.  After being down 11-1 in the first inning, the Golden Eagles fought back to win 17-16!!  Come out and support as they take on Lapel at home next Tuesday starting at 5pm!
 

Men's Soccer
The Men's Soccer team will be having a call out meeting on Wednesday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the Media Center.  This meeting is for parents and players.  Anyone interested in playing soccer next season should attend.

Men's Golf 
Varsity Men's Golf opened April 7 by handing Brebeuf their first loss in 3 years!  Congratulations to Mitch Thiem (43), Ryan Stano (45), Jacob King (40), Ryan Kimmerling (43), Henry Stevens (40), and Travis Fellmeth (43). Their winning streak continued Monday against Park Tudor led by Mitch Thiem (35), Jacob King (42), Henry Stevens (43), Ryan Kimmerling (47), Tyler Vickery (47), and Tayler Vickery (49). Finally, the guys got it done again last night as they won the match against Heritage Christian by 11 strokes--170-181!  Congrats to our medalist, Jack Zachary who finished with a 40.  In addition, Henry Stevens and Ryan Stano had 43s and Jacob King a 44.

Cross Country 
For all students interested in participating in Cross Country this fall, there will be a call-out meeting on Thursday, April 26th at 3:30 p.m. in Mr. Gallagher's room. The meeting will last 15 minutes and go over details about the sport and the summer schedule. All current track participants need not attend. If you cannot make it, please let Father Janko know of your interest to participate.

Gymnastics 
Looks like Guerin Catholic has some stellar gymnasts walking the halls!  Congratulation to freshmen Madison Hargrave and Junior Rachel Carr who have qualified for Nationals!!!
Madison will be one of 7 gymnasts representing  Region 5 (which consists of Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky) at Level 10 Nationals next month
in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  Madison placed 4th on floor, 5th on beam and 8th on vault in the region and was 7th All-Around to qualify.

Rachel Carr competed in the USA Gymnastics Region 5 Regional meet and qualified for the Junior Olympic National Invitational Tournament (NIT), which is held in Hampton, Virginia on May 13. The NIT is held in conjunction with the JO Nationals Meet, and the girls that qualify for this meet are in the top-12 of their age group in the All-Around at the Regionals meet. Rachel finished top-10 in 3 events (6th in Vault; 8th in Floor/Bars) for her first meet since February after coming back from injury.

Congratulations girls! We are very proud of you!

We've set up another NIKE online store featuring Guerin Catholic wear for summer--including some basic t-shirts--always a hit!!! The store will accepting orders until May 5 and all items will be shipped to Guerin Catholic. Samples of each item are available to see--just contact Colleen Ward for more info.

SEService Hour Opportunity at SEAS

St. Elizabeth Seton Church  needs volunteers to greet parishioners and check them in when they come for their photo appointments for our new parish pictorial directory.  Dates needed are April 24, 28, May 1, 2, 4, 5, 17, 18, 19. Shifts on weekdays are 2-5:30pm & 5:30-9pm. Shifts on Saturdays are 9:30am-1:15pm & 1:15-5:00pm.
