Rick Wagner - Principal, Guerin Catholic
Mr. Wagner's Letter

Paul lives in downtown Indianapolis. To get to his residence, we needed to drive down a gravel road that runs behind an industrial plant near Lucas Oil Stadium. A chain link fence runs the length of the road, separating it from the woods. About half way down the road, we stopped at the spot where a portion of the chain link fence had been pulled back. We entered there (take your flashlight if visiting at night) and followed the dirt path through the woods. We went down an incline and took a sharp left turn toward the creek. There we found Paul. bbGuerin Catholic Best Buddies

On the evening of October 25th in the Media Center, Guerin Catholic's Best Buddies club entertained our buddies from The Independence Academy with our annual Halloween Party. The Independence Academy is a school for autistic students grades 5-12. We buddy with their high school students. Several of our students have one-to-one buddies; others just attend or help with the planned activities. Students attended our costume party, and enjoyed such activities as "pin the eyes on the pumpkin", freeze dance, and the ever popular musical chairs. The refreshments were plentiful and the decorations were appropriately spooky. Much credit goes to Maddie Nickander and her committee for their great party planning, Kelsey Fox for her tireless job as president keeping us organized, and last, but not least, the students who have committed to being buddies to the students from Independence Academy. These kind, caring individuals, keep in touch with their buddies on a weekly basis and often get together with them outside of school activities. They give up their time to be a blessing to others. I know I couldn't be prouder of these fine young men and women. They represent Guerin Catholic well.

Hockey

Your hockey team - the NHC Millers - opened last Sunday's road trip to South Bend with loss to the Adams Eagles, 6-1.  In the afternoon the Millers shook off the loss and defeated the Penn Kingsmen (defending 2A state champions) 3-2 despite a two-goal comeback by the Kingsmen in the third period.   Guerin Catholic's Will Hadden and Jack Zachary each scored  goals against the Kingsmen and Nick Bove saved 29 of 31 shots on goal for another strong performance in goal.  The Millers fought off a goalie pull by Penn during the final minute of the game to hold on for the victory and bring their overall record to 5-2-2.

Next weekend the Millers travel to Evansville for games against Trinity and Evansville.  The following weekend, Nov. 5 and 6, you have two opportunities to see your hockey team in action!  On Saturday night, Nov. 5, the Millers take on Columbus at the Fishers Forum at 7:15 pm.  On Sunday, 11/6, they play HSE B at the Fishers Forum at 11:45 am.  League action is heating up and your team needs your support!  With free admission, high school hockey provides the best sports value in town.  See you at the rink!
