principalRick Wagner - Principal, Guerin CatholicMr. Wagner's Letter

Greetings!

I had the opportunity to attend the freshmen retreat on September 7th. We took all 191 freshmen to St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, the school and community founded by St. Theodore Guerin. Our goal was to have the freshmen walk in the footsteps of Mother Guerin and begin to understand what we are about at Guerin Catholic, including what expectations we have of them to carry on her legacy.

Congratulations

Congratulations to our President, Mr. Paul Lunsford and our Principal, Mr. Rick Wagner who both had very special weekends last week.  As most of you know, both are studying and preparing to be ordained as permanent deacons. Last Saturday evening at the Cathedral of St. Mary's in Lafayette (below right), Mr. Lunsford  received the ministry of Lector by Bishop Timothy L. Doherty. Also last Saturday evening at St. Peter & Paul Cathedral (below left) in Indianapolis, Mr. Wagner was instituted to the ministry of acolyte by Bishop Emeritus William Higi.

Congratulations to both---how blessed we are to have these two servant leaders at Guerin Catholic High School!!!

prnProgress Report Night

Just a reminder that Progress Report Night will take place on Wednesday, September 28.  Parents may arrive any time between 4:15 and 6:45 p.m. At the main entrance, they will be able to pick up a copy of their student's Progress Report. Teachers will be seated at tables throughout the building --- the main hallways, cafeteria and Media Center. The location of teachers will be indicated on the Progress Report. Parents then have the option of choosing which, if any, teachers they would like to see. To allow teachers to see as many parents as possible, we ask parents to limit their time with any one teacher to five minutes. If more time is needed, the parent and teacher should set up a subsequent meeting that will allow them more time.

The fall is a busy time for everyone, so please know that this is not a required evening for parents, but rather an opportunity we offer to those with academic questions or concerns regarding their child. With the ability to track student progress regularly via the ANGEL network, parents may not feel the need to attend this event. Progress Reports will be mailed out to any family not in attendance.

pnsSpeaker to follow Progress Report Night

Guerin Catholic's Parent-to-Parent Network has also secured a speaker, Dr. Eugene Gan who will present immediately following Progress Report Night at 7 p.m. Dr. Gan is a professor of Multimedia and Communication Arts at the Franciscan University in Steubenville and will focus his presentation on "Encountering Christ in the Media."  A tidbit of Gan's perspective:

"Media is an instrument...that can be used to proclaim the Gospel or to silence it within men's hearts.  My job as a professor, is to help my students learn how to wield that instrument well--with faith, virtue, and excellence, as both media-makers and media consumers."  Sounds like a "don't miss" presentation!! Be sure to attend!!!
