principalRick Wagner - Principal, Guerin CatholicMr. Wagner's Letter

Greetings!

The first month of school is complete and September is flying by. Fall is always the busiest time of the school year. There is so much excitement as new things get kicked off, and big events seem to be occurring one after the other.

xXavier Murphy Updates

As most of you know, Xavier Murphy, GCHS Class of 2007, was recently diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He is currently at Riley Hospital in downtown Indianapolis. Following are a few of the things we have planned in an effort to show our love and prayerful support to Xave:

Paper Cranes

On Monday, September 19th, during our Kairos period, the entire student body will be folding paper cranes--one of Marcia Murphy's (Xavier's mother and GC media specialist) favorite forms of visible prayer.  We will present these to Xavier and the entire Murphy family. Anyone from the Guerin Catholic family is welcome to join us from 10:30-11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19.

Blood Drive

The Guerin Catholic Community and the Indiana Blood Center would like to invite all interested parties in donating blood on behalf of Xavier Murphy to attend our Blood Drive on Saturday, October 8th from 10 am until 4 pm. The Blood Drive will be in the gymnasium. Please contact Beth Wagoner to donate and/or to work the drive. (582-0120, x-236 and bwagoner@guerincatholic.org) We will be accepting walk-ins the day of the drive, but to stay on schedule, please let us know when you would like to sign-up.

prProgress Report Night/Speaker Following

Just a reminder that Progress Report Night will take place on Wednesday, September 28, from 4:15-7 p.m.  Guerin Catholic's Parent-to-Parent Network has also secured a speaker, Dr. Eugene Gan who will present immediately following Progress Report Night at 7 p.m. Dr. Gan is a professor of Multimedia and Communication Arts at the Franciscan University in Steubenville and will focus his presentation on "Encountering Christ in the Media."  A tidbit of Gan's perspective:

"Media is an instrument...that can be used to proclaim the Gospel or to silence it within men's hearts.  My job as a professor, is to help my students learn how to wield that instrument well--with faith, virtue, and excellence, as both media-makers and media consumers."

Sounds like a "don't miss" presentation!! Be sure to attend!!!
