massAll-School Mass Next Thursday

The all-school mass scheduled for next week will take place on Thursday, September 8, at 9 a.m. (previously scheduled for Friday, Sept. 9). Please make a note of this change and stay tuned to the Guerin Catholic Updates this weekend for more details regarding next week's schedule.

An ANGEL parent account (aka Mentor Insight Window) allows parents access to their child's online ANGEL classes, assignments and grades at any time from any computer. It is an excellent way to keep up with your child's progress throughout the year.  For instructions on how to set up your first ANGEL Insight Window or to add children to a current account,  please click HERE.  The IT Department will also be available during Back-to-School night on Wednesday to help set up parent accounts or you can contact Peg Dispenzieri, Asst. IBIB Certificates 

Congratulations to our 13 IB diploma and 67 IB certificate recipients from the class of 2011! Official IB diplomas and certificates for the class of 2011 have arrived at Guerin. These are for any graduated senior who completed any kind of IB class(es) during their junior or senior year. Please let us know if you can stop by to pick up the certificate, if a younger sibling can bring it home or if you would like it mailed.

ccIndiana Catholic Cross Country Invitational 

Mark your calendars now for the biggest gathering of Catholic Cross Country teams in the state! On September 10, Guerin Catholic is pleased to host the Second Annual Indiana Catholic Cross Country Invitational in which over 20 men's and women's cross country teams from Catholic High Schools across the state will compete!! The schedule for the day follows:

 

 

                             Men's Varsity CC Meet  - 11 a.m.

Women's Varsity - approximately 11:30 a.m.  

Men's JV - approximately noon  

Women's JV - approximately 12:30 p.m.  

Awards ceremony - 1:20 p.m.

 

Mass - 1:20 p.m.

KYKen-Ya Carnival

Please come to the Ken-Ya Carnival on Saturday, September 3 to help orphans in Kenya! The Guerin Catholic "Ken-Ya Help Us?" club will be working the duck pond at the carnival, but there are more than 25 games and inflatables for all ages! The carnival is an interfaith effort and is held at

Second Presbyterian Church (7700 N. Meridian) from 2-6 pm on Saturday, September 3.

 
Middle school and high school students from various schools, parishes, and congregations are working together in this effort. This is the 5th annual Ken-Ya Carnival, which seeks to send 100 Kenyan teenage orphans to secondary school in Kenya. It costs $325 to fund one student's tuition. Come and have a fabulous time and support a great cause! For more information, visit www.kenyahelpus.org

LOTRAINING FOR LUCAS OIL

September 13 at Guerin Catholic 

 

Lucas Oil/Centerplate  TIPS Training for Parents - Tuesday, September 13th at Guerin Catholic - 7:00 p.m.

This training is the Liquor Permit portion of the Concession Stands. Once you acquire your Liquor Permit, the state mandates that you have a TIPS training certificate for serving alcohol.

For additional FRONTLINE Training (training for inside the concession stand - this is for parents/students), please contact Pamelia Storms Barrett, director for advancement, for the new online training that is available.

Remember, to work inside the booth you must be 16 years or older.  When you work inside the booth, this can be counted as Guerin Catholic Service Hours.

Football

Be sure to come out tonight to watch the Golden Eagles in their home opener vs. Lutheran! Kick-off is at 7 p.m., but come out early and tailgate with the crowd. It's also CYO night---so there will be plenty of future Golden Eagles on Campus tonight!!! 

 

 

Men's Tennis

Congratulations to the Men's Tennis team who continues their impressive season by defeating Peru this past Tuesday by a score of 5-0, and improved their season record to 4-1.

Volleyball

The Golden Eagles traveled to Eastern-Greentown this past Tuesday, winning 2-0 and 3-0. Last night they hosted Knightstown with JV winning 2-0 and Varsity 3-0.  The week ahead will be busy ..beginning with CYO Night on Tuesday, September 6 as the teams take on Lebanon for a "triple header". Freshman will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by JV at 6:00 p.m. and Varsity at 7:00 p.m. On Wednesday, September 7, the Lady Golden Eagles take on Sheridan at the Nest with Varsity at 6:00 p.m. Then on Thursday, September 8, the Lady Golden Eagles will host University beginning with JV at 5:00 p.m. and Varsity at 6:00 p.m.  The Lady Golden Eagles will then travel to compete in the Shelbyville Invitational on Saturday (9/10).. tournament play begins at 9:00 a.m.   GO GOLDEN EAGLES!

 

Volleyball CYO Night 

The Guerin Catholic girls volleyball team will be hosting CYO night on  

Tuesday, September 6.  Youth attending this home match will enjoy free admission, various door prizes and great volleyball.  JV match starts at 6:00 pm and Varsity match starts at 7:00 pm.

Softball

Any new player who is interested in playing softball this season needs to contact Coach Neman to be added to the informational emails.  We will begin our fall workouts soon and you don't want to be left out!  Email Coach Neman at mneman@guerincatholic.org if you are interested!   

  

Girls Golf

Guerin Catholic Girls Golf Team finishes another strong week!  On Tuesday the team lost by only a few strokes to Carmel (ranked in top 10 in the state) and out-scored North Central.  On Thursday the team had a double-win with 183 against Brebeuf (198) and Warren Central (221).  The top players were Lucy Stevens (42), Whitney Gryna (46), Sarah Baxter (47) and Nora Sego (48).  Way to play team!  Go Golden Eagle Golfers!  There are two matches in the week ahead: Tuesday, September 6 with Mt. Vernon & Hamilton Heights at Old Oakland (4:30 pm) and Thursday, September 8, with Lawrence North at 4:30 (location to be announced). Great job girls!!!   

 

Girl's Basketball

Guerin Catholic Girls Basketball is forming Winter Travel Teams for Grades 4-8 Workouts to be held on September 11, October 2, 16, 23, 30, and November 6 & 20 from 5-8:30 (2 sessions) depending on numbers.  Email Dave Roth at dmroth@mainscape.com for rsvp, forms, info, and questions.  There will be a need for volunteer coaches also.  League play starts in November.  Cost is $65 per player + cost of jersey.

LifeTouch photography was here on Thursday for Picture Day. Because of the large number of seniors requesting retakes - not all seniors were able to have their photographs retaken. LifeTouch will be back again on October 13th to photograph any seniors still needing retakes. National Catholic Youth Conference 2011    NCYC '11

Did you know that 25,000 Catholic high school students from across America are coming to Indy the weekend of November 17-19, 2011? They are coming to attend the Call to Glory; the 2011 National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) hosted by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. We need over 1,500 adult volunteers to support this event. shoService Hour Opportunity

The Greek Festival at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church located at 106th & Shelborne is Friday, Sept 9th (4-10pm) & Saturday Sept 10th (Noon - 10pm). Volunteers are needed to work 3 hour shifts. All volunteers will get into the festival for free. Interested students may contact Mrs. Dallas at (317) 575-0411.
